- This piece is a musical painting of an image of a Cloister-Garth, which is
'an open court surrounded by cloisters especially in a group of buildings of a monastery or college'.
Most likely the one in mind for Herbert Brewer in this work is that of Gloucester Cathedral where he was organist from 1896 until his death in 1928.
The piece is very lyrical and tuneful and utilises many stops solo stops, including the Clarinet, Cor Anglais, and Harmonic Flute from the Solo division and the Chimney Flute from the Postive. The piece has a gentle dance-like nature to it also
Performed on the Organ of Carlisle Cathedral
