The lady playing Shirley’s sister is Regina King’s sister in real life. Her name is Reina. She was also a child actor, playing in “What’s Happening Now.”
One thing that oddly stood out to me was the focus on her being able to eat her lunch. The Terrence Howard character wanted to be sure that no one interrupted her while she ate. I know, a very odd thing, but this really stood out in the film. They should have fleshed out that storyline between Shirley and her sister. Definitely had some missed opportunities. The moment between Shirley and Barbara was touching. A great mentor-mentee moment!
Great review! I thought "Shirley" was beautifully cast, acted, directed, scripted, etc. I wish it had been a mini-series so even more could have been explored and depicted. Still, it was really good and I hope lots of people see it.
You left out her undeniably greatest accomplishment; successful, Black, female, dark skin, *child actor* . Young Regina hit the ground running and never looked back. We need a biopic on her life story!
I never look forwars for streaming reviews. I could as well jist click on netflix and make my mind. But I dig Brandon reviews so I had to watch. Great as usual.
I really like Regina king's work , always thought she was a very attractive Sista, but I'm not a fan of the person who she is portraying. Netfix has become a propaganda mill for revisionist history regarding infamous figures in Black American Freedman History, such as Bayard Rustin and Shirley Chisom (BTW, a Caribbean, not a Freedman) .. Both figures were establishment shills used to shoehorn alternate lifestyles and counterproductive political ideologies that black people have adopted which served (serve) to confuse, distract and divide black people today. Since you claim you're about truth then why are you wanting to ignore certain historical individuals of Black American History, and you don't want films to depicted. You're not being truthful, brucesmith.

I feel it would’ve been better as a mini series. They left a lot out of the movie.
I agree the movie left me wanting more. In fact I’m hoping there will be more produced about her.
Didn’t really see a lot of promos for this and I’m not surprised. Definitely going to check this out. Thanks.

She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc ❤️

I will definitely watch. Thanks for the review.
The stand out was Regina King. Lance Reddick was also good. The film itself had potential but missed the mark on why she wanted to run for President.
This was an excellent review BKA. Thanks.
Great review. The cast is excellent, I’m looking forward to this film.
thanks JMOR !
Haven't seen the film yet..Looking forward too it!
Did they speak about any of the assassination attempts against her life doing her political career?
I watched it but wanted to see more
3:44 Is that our dear brother, who passed away😢 R.I.P
She was Guyanese and Bajan, not African American or “FBA”.
And that’s why she failed
