As someone who is currently trying leave an abusive relationship, at my most hopeless this show gave me hope. Every episode had my sleeves damp from drying my uncontrollable tears because it was not just the depiction of the types of literal abuse that were so accurate but also the metaphors of Alex being stuck in the dark hole, trapped in the forest and “zoning out” like she was dead inside. I am a domestic abuse survivor. Can't express enough how much you need to leave them abusive relationship you are in. My own grandmother was murdered by her son to be ex ( they signed papers for divorce. He wasn't my grandpa. She has been widowed) the night before she came to live with us. I was 11yrs old. These relationships so not get better but get worse! I left my ex 33 yrs ago. He didn't hurt me at all while dating 1.5 yrs. 2 weeks after we married her started beating me. Its go worse and worse. I was lucky to get out alive. You are probably in survival mode or maybe denial stage. It's normal but ask yourself 1 question sweetheart. Is this what you or God or your Higher power want your life to be like? After 4 yrs I asked myself this and in my head I heard a resounding "NO". Nobody's life should be like this. Please call a domestic violence hotline & they will help you plan and escape plan to get you put safely. Google help in your area. There are really places to stay just like the movie. So sorry to hear that. Remember this: Your abuser has no right to abuse you in any way and it doesn't matter what you have done or not done. It is never your fault or responsibility. You have no obligations toward your abuser. Abuse is always wrong. Leaving is hard but so worth it!!! You have the right to live your life free of abuse. I send you strength and believe in you. You can do it!
I couldn't stop watching this until I finished it. I think what I really loved was that she had this other really stable man who wanted to take care of her but she was able to pick herself up and get out of there on her own (almost). Plus Nate was so pushy with trying to ask her out, she just got out of a bad relationship and all she needed was a friend. I was glad he didn't even make a reappearance after she left his house.
@Two Of Substance Yes exactly! I didn't even realize this until after I finished the series. I was hoping he would make a reappearance, even though something didn't feel right. Just goes to show how easily people can be taken advantage of if they always look for the best and believe people have their best interest in mind.
I think the acting in this from all the players was very well done. Even when Margaret Qualley had no dialogue, just looking at her face, you felt for her. And the love she showed her little girl, she did an incredible job bonding with that child, and she endured hardships and difficulties throughout because she loved her daughter and wanted to provide a better life for her. The last scene, when she says M is for Maddy, I wept.
@@ethanaday4076I cried when she landed on the doorstep of the shelter for the 2nd time, she’s holding back tears, trying not to cry at her misfortune, she’s visibly disappointed at herself. I bawled
If you're looking for a reason to watch this show ~ take my word for it, it's an excellently directed, acted, produced the show and I can't thank the team enough for the amazing work they did. Truly a moving show
The writing in this was absolutely brilliant! I Watched this in one day. It hit home for so many reasons, but most importantly it brought awareness to something I feel a lot of us don't want to talk about. It's so real and so raw. There's hope for everyone going through this❤️ Incredible incredible show, truly exquisite
I was married to an abusive husband exactly like Sean throwing things, hitting and punching walls. I was all alone stuck in another country. I prayed and cried daily to God to save me from him. Glad I came back home in 2 months time and never go back to him. Parents were saying nope, not gonna send my daughter to a pyscho. If I would have gone back, would have suffer or dead. He gave me a bad emotional trauma and physical abuse that took 5 years to come out. Today my dad sat and watch this series with me and he couldn't watch it. I was like you know this is what I went through. Glad you saved me.
Absolutely painfully beautiful how they were able to bring honest awareness to such tragic reality. I felt so many emotions watching this entire series. I felt things for all the characters. These feelings made me think about some of the areas in my own life, and also about some of the people that I love. Altogether, this show was absolute brillance.
Just did the same as many did, watched in one day today to be exact. It’s 1:33 am here and I’ve never been so emotionally drained that I’m searching the web for just a tad more of this story to bring me up to where I need to be to function. This story was the closet thing to the life I grew up with when my mother was being abused. It almost seemed like someone reached into my soul and found my darkest secret and made a series out of it. It was a good and healthy emotional ride and I thank you for that, I am in a great place in my life and it just makes me feel so grateful for where I am. Thank you again for an amazing story 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The cycle of abuse is shown throughout and in DV situations this is all to real! I hope this series empowers and awakens the reality that You never know what someone is going through! So always be kind!❤
This show wouldn’t have been the same without Margaret. So emotional, she makes you feel the pain the character feels. Amazing actress and amazing show
so painfully hard to watch but so beautifully made. I’ve never been able to connect so deeply to characters like I did with ‘Maid’. As an avid binge watcher of shows, I think it proves more when I say I could not watch this all in one day. Broke my heart and wrapped me up all over again the next day.
Watching this show then immediately reading the book, taught me so much about the government assistance programs, how over-dated they are, how harsh other peoples lives are. It really taught me humility. It made me more aware of other peoples experiences. I’m pretty lucky to have a supporting family. I think it comes down to how you are raised, environment as a child, and life experience that makes who you are in you 20s and 30s. I am Really thinking about volunteering for the less unfortunate.
I loved this series. All the characters were so complex-nobody wound up being exactly how you thought they were at first. In both heartbreaking and beautiful ways. I cried so many times.
This show is INCREDIBLE! It’s been a really long time I haven’t watched anything with so much depth to it. I cried on almost every single episode. I could relate to Alex, because I was also a cleaner. But the things she had to endure, the feeling of hopelessness and yet not giving up, it’s so inspiring and heartwarming. I applaud everyone involved in this amazing show. It makes us reflect on so many things… Great job!!!!
Loved this show so much, I've recommended it to everyone. I think it really shone a light on controlling and emotional abuse. The fact that Alex says more than once that she doesn't deserve to be in the shelter because he's not violent is probably the same attitude a lot of ppl in these relationships have. I was more saddened by the lack of support from the government ( here in the UK there seems to be more emergency help but icould be wrong ) and especially her mother. i had a unstable childhood with alcohol abuse, boyfriends in and out and these experiences really do stay with you.
this is the best show ever, and i connected to her character so much. so much wished i played her lmao, very inspirational and my god i need this on my shelf
The best cast, story, acting movie in a long long time. I cried my heart out. May all woman that experience such hardship rise above their circumstances. I bless you all with strenght and courage.
I loved this story. This is the story of my coworkers, who interestingly enough I've been a cleaner with in washington state, witnessing the height of chaos and grace of the universe. This is the story of my mom and I. This is the story of my dad and I. This is the story of my life when it comes to not speaking up, finding my voice, and experincing the ups and downs of day to day life. This show was so many stories I've witnessed and have been a character in. Great acting, love the inspiration, and wonderful story telling. This is real life.
I just started watching Maid, and the chemistry between Margaret, and her mother Andie fluents perfect. Two of them remind me of when Michael Douglas worked with his son Cameron, and his dad Kirk in a movie, whose name was It runs in the family.
This is the best series for me so far. Once I started to watch I can not stop. I felt like I have watched someone's life for real. It seems so real. Hands down for this series. Love it so much.
I haven’t seen anything this BRILLIANT for a long time. Every Single character was fabulous such great quality acting. I loved the story and the way it was very inspiring to see how strong a young single mom can be, with the will to move forward despite all these obstacles. I think there is a lot to take from this series. In this video I am just seeing that a young mom is actually Andi McDowells real daughter this is so sweet mother and daughter are both very talented bless you all :))))))
I fell in love with this young lady’s acting. Her career is going to go so far!! And of course I’ve always loved her mother. This was a wonderful show. Her character was so strong. 💕
as the son of a mother who was abused physically and mentally this brought to me tears, considered that i haven't cried out of pure emotion in years, the abuser has passed however may his soul rest and may our father forgive him for his actions, i am no one to judge another human but his actions scarred me and my mother forever
Best show ever n what a platform for struggling mothers fathers families it's all about us as human beings n dealing with everyday life thanku for writing such a master piece n great performance from all the actors involved 😁👌👏
My husband and I began watching "Maid" because it was filmed in our home town and we thought it would be fun to spot familiar places. We were soon completely hooked by Alex and Paula, never knowing they are actually mother and daughter in real life. Our family has had first hand experience with non-physical domestic abuse in addition to mental health issues and Maid really captured the struggles of survivors. Thank you ladies you did a fantastic job!
Yup binge watch MAID and was obsessed with Andy's character without knowing the real life mother-daughter dynamics and especially Nick's growth as an actor..loved him in ' Love, Simon' he has evolved so much..and Regina..she's great..Ted poor Ted..lastly sweet sweet Maddy..a very talented cast indeed..
What an actress Margaret Qualley is!! love her. The part where shes talking to her mom in the parking lot with her teary eye, gets me i feel that, it makes me sobs so much
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge Andie MacDowell's gorgeousness! OMG, she looks AMAZING still! I love how she's rocking her hair and it looks so beautiful. 😍😍
Wow just finished watching this show in 2 days,it’s soo real, haven’t seen anything like this in a while! Every character is so real and cast amazing! Will recommend this show to everybody!
I watched this, like watching my personal story take place. Few different circumstances but very close. I prevailed and keep going. I hope anyone that saw this and found a piece of themselves in her finds peace in life! Blessings to you all.❤
Breaking from the cycle is depicted perfectly when Alex was making calls to get help while the other women from the shelter stood around on their phones smoking. It requires so much work but the pay off was worth it. This show was so beautiful and captures real life all too well.
I think so many people will be able to pick out experiences in their own lives, as portrayed in 'Maid'. It's sad and uplifting and I say thank you to everyone involved in the show
I absolutely LOVED this show. You both did such an excellent and amazing job. I am very close to my mother so it is so beautiful to know you guys worked together and did what I believe was worth an EMMY and more. God bless you both. P.S. Netflix, sign them up for season 2 please :)
Wowwwww had no idea!!! Both of them amaze!!!! Andie deserves an Oscar for this!!!!!!! Period!!! Unbelievably committed work!!! Great job to the whole cast!!!
I watched this show because both my Sisters are single Mums...went through difficult times, but have brought some amazing children into this world. I have recommended the show to them. The relationship as actors between Maddie and " Mum" was so natural...incredible bonding between Mother ans daughter..👏👏👏
I'm currently watching Maid and discussing it with my daughter. We just watched and discussed the first episode. I hope we can both continue on our healing journey. I hope sharing our talks will help others as well.
When Alex messed up her situation with Nate I was so mad. But i reminded myself that this is Alex's story and having a knight in shining armor save her isn't what is needed. Alex had to save Alex. Still though Nate was such a sweet guy. I do think it rang true though. Someone with all the trauma that Alex carries would find it hard to trust that someone would treat her right
I grew up in a domestic violence home and went on to replicate similar behaviors in my adult relationships. My life is better now. I'm married to an amazingly kind and gentle partner, but I still have many emotional knots to unravel. I was sooo thankful for this show. It was triggering and heartbreaking and raw and real. It told a complex story so well. Domestic violence happens to poor, rich, black, Hispanic, white, Asian, gay and straight. It doesn't discriminate. I hope more shows like this get made to help educate everyone, and create light out of darkness.
omfg the best show ever, what ashame it doesnt go on to see her better her life even more...i couldnt stop watching it great acting, just a great show...well done
In a long time some series has hit me hard. I went through similar abuse and that is exactly how one feels. Absolute eye opener. Never ever love someone more than you love yourself.

as the son of a mother who was abused physically and mentally this brought to me tears, considered that i haven't cried out of pure emotion in years, the abuser has passed however may his soul rest and may our father forgive him for his actions, i am no one to judge another human but his actions scarred me and my mother forever
I love how it shows the characters in all their depth
Every characters was cast SO WELL, and was 100% believable. Awesome show!!
I just finished this at 4a.m I couldn't stop crying. Tears of joy, sadness, excitement, ... This was an amazing show.
Best show ever n what a platform for struggling mothers fathers families it's all about us as human beings n dealing with everyday life thanku for writing such a master piece n great performance from all the actors involved 😁👌👏
One of the few times the show is way better than the book. The emotions come out so much more so on screen.
They also did a good job of showing the love that exists between Alex and Sean, however complicated it is.
Andie MacDowell has aged so gracefully. She’s a really beautiful woman.
Yup binge watch MAID and was obsessed with Andy's character without knowing the real life mother-daughter dynamics and especially Nick's growth as an actor..loved him in ' Love, Simon' he has evolved so much..and Regina..she's great..Ted poor Ted..lastly sweet sweet Maddy..a very talented cast indeed..
sailed through this entire series. great show!
I finished watching it in just 3 days. THIS IS THE BEST
Great job to the whole cast!!!
it's a limited series so actually it's Emmy thing, but yeah I aggre with you.. she should won everything for this😊
I watched this show because both my Sisters are single Mums...went through difficult times, but have brought some amazing children into this world. I have recommended the show to them. The relationship as actors between Maddie and " Mum" was so natural...incredible bonding between Mother ans daughter..👏👏👏
“She was stuck with me for 9 months” lol it’s not the first time ☺️
I'm currently watching Maid and discussing it with my daughter. We just watched and discussed the first episode. I hope we can both continue on our healing journey. I hope sharing our talks will help others as well.
The best mini series I've watched in years!! Well done ladies. It was very bitter sweet, stay safe xx
Both incredibly talented. Andie MacDoowell's performance was outstanding! Margaret Qualley was amazing.
Andie MacDowell still looks so so good
I know there is no Oscar for shows, but they both deserve one for there preformences. actually all of them
The mom’s character is everything ❤️😩
She’s too funny and unique such an intense woman
I have told several people to watch this. And to gave their teenage/young adult children watch as well. This is a brilliant series.
Margaret will bring us amazing performances for a lifetime. We are so lucky to have these quality caring actors. Thank you Andie & Margaret
it took me 10 episodes and this interview to realize they are mother and daughter😭😭
Such a great performance💛
This was an excellent mini series. I was hooked after the first episode.
Such an incredibly moving show with extraordinary actors👏😊
I really wish they'd make more seasons! I loved this so much!!
What a beautiful cast, writing, acting...This MOVIE is absolutely amazing. One of the best things ever released on Netflix.

One of my favorite shows . Brilliant acting from all. And a very important message that doesn't get talked about enough
No one mention that Nick Robinson did a really great job in this show
he really did. i hated him so much which means he did a good job 😂
@@seonghwasbae2771 same with the mom
This show really spoke to my family. It is crazy all of the similarities in my upbringing. The ending is very worth the watch. 10/10
Andie Mcdowall was brilliant in this show. She stole every scene she was in. Great show’
Agreed, everyone is always on the Merryl Streep Bandwagon, I like Andie better ✌️
Series of the decade! And an outstanding performance from Qualley and MacDowell. 👌👌👌
Loved qualley since the leftovers, nice guy, once upon a time in Hollywood. Def gonna watch this but when im ready...
What a pleasant surprise! I sensed a lot of chemistry between these two
In a long time some series has hit me hard. I went through similar abuse and that is exactly how one feels. Absolute eye opener. Never ever love someone more than you love yourself.
one of the best I’ve seen recently!! deep honest sincere
Loved every minute of it! Best in a long time for me.. can’t wait for season 2!! 🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful series. So much rich in every aspect. Great content, direction n acting.
Me gustaria felicitar a la muchacha que interpretó a Maid . Me transmitió el mensaje de la película lo bien que actúo. Le doy 100% por lo bien que interpretó el personaje
Andie Macdowell was superb in this show. And she has clearly passed it down to Margie.
This storyline is so real. I wish my parents could watch it.
This show speaks louder for the female more than the others. Love this show and both of the
