So after I made this video and watched it back, I couldn’t help but think I’d like to go back to the track with the MB, but next time run it with the Super Stock BZ motor? I felt it just needed a little more Oomph 🤷🏼♂️
I always imagined the Monster Beetle to be a little faster too. Keep on keeping on, Glenn! Sometimes even lower speeds can be fun as your enthusiasm demonstrates! Here's to a better 2021!
Jumps a bit flatter than the buggies too probably due to the lower speed so you aren’t backing off as much. Great video Glenn here’s to a better 2021 for all of us 👍🏻
The sure brings back memories.. and mate you said it yourself but the monster beetle do crush many of the buggy’s you have had on the track. It totally ruled it, king of the track.
My favourite track run so far. I live the Tamiya Monster trucks, they look so good. I have a black edition to build for use this summer. Can't wait now.
Wow! What a fun truck/buggy! It soaks up the jumps in such a SATISFYING way. It’s doesn’t bounce uncontrollably and it never feels like wet towels like modern RCs. Juuuuuust right for FUN! Love it!
You can tell you're having a blast by hearing your giggle. I run a Le man's 360st in my Monster Beetle and it goes good with that. I'm surprised you didn't lose any of your side view mirrors.
Thanks for another great video. I sure do miss my old monster beetle. That was the first RC I ever had I wish I knew what happened to it now that I’m an adult and back into the hobby.
great driving - No need to launch the vehicle. You should bring this out there on the crappiest winter snowy day, I would bet it would do pretty well, great slow-motion, hard to top this video, great time of day for photography. Thanks
Awesome running! The only thing to make it better would be if a Blackfoot was racing around with it. It would be like when my brother and I used to play together! Sad that it is last running video because of winter. I used to love it but with my hands going numb faster in the cold weather due to arthritis I cannot hang onto a snowmobile handlebar anymore.
Yeah that would be awesome to have a couple running together 🤩 And yes trying to put a running video together in winter sadly no longer appeals to me 🤣👊🏻 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
@@TAMIYALegends Well I have the clothes if I want to go out even down to -40C due to snowmobile suit. Which now has become just cold weather running gear. Except the gloves make finger to fat for trigger
I'm going going get the big dump truck for me and my grandsons first build together, what I love is he appreciates that I'm on ex forces benefits and spend time building our collection up.
I recently bought two sw-01 for me and my 7yo son without any expectation but wow, it's sooooooooo much fun. Tamiya let me know what's the essential fun of RC :)
This is my favourite tamiya, my first one as a child and will go almost anywhere, mip ball diff and an 8.5 is whats in mine and just so much fun, pleased you liked it too 😀
Yea i watched a race @ stamford hall in the 80's as a child , a monster beetle pitted against buggys of all types & this thing dominated, was defo modified motor territory as was way fast than this even with ni-cad battery 🔋 😅 . So stable . Always wanted 1 as my folks had 3 real beetles. Now in my late 40's may buy 1 & make it brushless 😆
Good morning Glen!!! Happy new year as well!!! Something so magical about the re re’s that the newer ones just don’t have ! Sure they handle better and are faster but listen to your videos! Your laughter is pure bliss! Like a 14 year old back in time. So much character and more fun the older ones have and unfortunately that’s what the new ones lack. Keep bring out the awesome videos in 2021! Thanks
Put the bigger motor in as you say and get a polycarbonate basher shell for the track and keep that one for best. Great video Glen and enjoyed it more as just built one over Xmas:-)
Nice video and run on the track. I actually treated myself a Monster Beetle for christmas, halfway into the build and cant wait to get it out for a run.
Hi Glenn, Fantastic video of the Monster Beetle! Really enjoyed this one. If you need a wiper and a number-late, please let me know. I’ll send you the parts. Best regards, Alex from The Netherlands
Who'd of thought that clumsy looking thing would go around the arena and look so at ease the slow action is awesome, this has me grinning from ear to ear 😍
That was great to watch Glenn! I thought it ran really well around there and could handle a bit more power I reckon. Hard to beat a Monster Beetle for fun on a track like that. Awesome.
Runs great cool video Glen, funny how something we've never had an interest in we give it a try and love it that happened to me with my wife's dual rider so I got a dancing rider we run together now these are fun rc is amazing
Thats what I call fun, the monster beetle is awesome. I wish I had a track like that to run one on, perfect for it. Think i'd still be there now hahaha.
Nice video, Ive watched a few of your monster beetle vids.. I was chatting to a guy at work about RC and he said I got one an RC car and then pulled out an original Monster beetle with old school speed control and addition battery block to power the servo. He said i can borrow it if i don't smash it it up ... definitely going to do a vid on it soon.
Magical mate!! Such a cool looking tamiya and big fun! I remember seeing the MB for the first time back in the day and it was really decent around the track considering it was a Monster but it was mostly up against the Lunchbox and Pumpkins so it did not have to try too much to look good lol those two are just bonkers anywhere you drive them! But the Lunchbox is still my favourite Monster from tamiya l think...just!! What a classic that yellow van is!
@@TAMIYALegends Like a happy, bouncy puppy with not much sense of direction. That's why I love them! My son has a stock yellow one with a silver can and I have 3 non-stock paint jobs. @@stevew4632 Instead of relying on the little wire springs (which easily break) at the transmission and axle pivot point on the chassis pan you also install a small oil filled shock in the centre of that pivot. 3rd shock see? It makes the van wheelie better and more controlled because the axle doesn't slam upwards as violently. Google it for install video and hopefully a better explanation 😆 Cheers
Great little car that Beetle Glenn! Imagine how much more fun it'll be with a motor upgrade!?? Also, i think if you found a larger track with longer run ups to jumps, that Beetle would fly high mate! Thanks for a great vid as always Glenn! Wes, Liverpool, UK.
That looked like so much fun and after running my Blackfoot a few times now I am not surprised at how well it went around that track, Tamiya got the suspension spot on.. I will be buying the Super Stock BZ motor for mine as I feel it needs the extra touque with the big wheels..

Did you find the wiper? Looks like the track was made for the MB, no too sharp turns to flip it over on, and nice jumps that fit the pacing and speed of the MB. Fun watch. Cheers
What's the difference between this one and the original? At its peak, Tamiya used metal for the core mechanicals and structure in its high-end units. Has it replaced most of these components with plastic parts?
That's the most planted of all the buggies you've taken down there so far. They really got the weight distribution spot on when they designed this back in the day. Not sure how much benefit you'll get from more speed...could mean more wheel spin and trickier handling. Only one way to find out...
Problem I had with mine was the huge , heavy and floppy fron wheels so steering is unpredictable ,espcially on rebound ! anyone ?? Mine was called "Desert Storm" and was painted in the chocolate-chip camo worn by US soldiers at the time . Unfortunately I don't have digital photos of it .
It is funny that you said that you did not really like the Monster Beetle. I felt the same way and got the Blackfoot. The Blackfoot was cheaper but it did not have oil filled shocks. Of course I am talking about the original cars. Today they both have oil filled shocks. Of course the original half shafts were terrible. The new Blackfoot and Monster Beetle have dog bones which work much better than the original Tamiya half shafts. Thoughts?
For me it was 100% down to looks only, I was always a Blackfoot guy back in the day. I always looked at the MB as an impostor lol 😂 Even when the MB re re came out I bought one straight away, but I still didn’t love it 🤷🏼♂️ But now a couple of years later I get another one and low and behold I now love the thing 😍. For me it was 100% down to looks only, I was always a Blackfoot guy back in the day. I always looked at the MB as an impostor lol 😂
Even when the MB re re came out I bought one straight away, but I still didn’t love it 🤷🏼♂️
But now a couple of years later I get another one and low and behold I now love the thing 😍. It’s really interesting to see how my interests in Tamiya change to different things as the years go on my friend 👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Me too. I now have a re-release Monster Beetle. I like it, but I still think the Blackfoot looks better. Thoughts?
Okay, I want a monster beetle now lol
Haha excellent 🤩👊🏻
Faster as the Avante 🤣🤣🤣
Pmsl 🤣. Yeah I think it got round quicker 😂
