As an American who visited Varanasi in my early 20's, I cannot think of a place that was more of a culture shock. I was taken on a sunrise boat tour and watching people brush their teeth next to a burning funeral pyre changed the way I saw the world forever. A detach head floated by me in the boat (some bodies are sunk rather than burned; some religious rules to the practice I won't pretend to know). These guys are HARDCORE through and through.
When I watch people skate among dead cats (@4.00), monkeys, dogs, pilgrims on a wet temple rock surface... Fuck, this is really a culture shock. Cannot imagine what it would be like to visit.
Maybe you just didn't show it in the video but I like how everyone is just chill. They're looking in curiosity but nobody's trying to stop you from skating
I think these people have (fortunately?) other concerns to think about. Someone riding a wooden plank is the least of their worries. So they indeed do appear -- in a sense -- super chill.

Much respect to the skateboarders abroad, especially those in rural areas. I can relate with the harsh surfaces here in Indianapolis where the streets and sidewalks are not forgiving, however like that guy said "if you can skate the rough surfaces you can skate anything" 💪💪💪

after seeing skaters in Tibet, Bhutan and a skatepark in North Korea, I’m hardly surprised to see skaters anywhere else in the world now… but this video is AMAZING! Travelling with a skateboard means easily getting to know the local skaters… I wish I was good enough to pull that off!
That's crazy, I've also met Brett Novak while skateboarding before and he is a really cool dude on top of being an excellent filmmaker and dedicated skater.
Its my gf’s dream to go to india and this spot is a must after watching this. Maybe we can skate with them too! After watch a movie titled ‘LION’ couple months ago this whole thing become a must !
I’ve never been to India but I love watching stuff about India. I saw bald and bankrupt go to Varanasi a few years ago and I’ve been loving India ever since. Great people, great country, great skaters. I will come see it for myself one day.

The conditions these guys have to skate in are commendable alone, damn. Getting around and adapting to all the BS just HAS to make their quest to get good at skating ten times harder.
I accidently cracked one of the Varanasi skaters board when I visited there. Young kid had a really beaten up board. I wanted to show him how to kickflip. I heard a slight crack when landing it and felt so bad. He had got it from his uncle who brought it as a gift from USA. :E
well what amazes me is that this is supposed to be a sacred land, or city, soil, whatever you wanna call it... and they don't seem to bother people skating. You do that anywhere near a church in europe you you'll probably get busted.. such a chill place, unfortunatelly it's not a very skate friendly pavement
This is amazing! I used to manage a kitesurfing school in Sri Lanka. I went down south a couple of times to kitesurf and surf in Midigama. There's a little skate bowl there, built by local skaters. You should check it out. I started blading a few years ago and would love to go back and skate it. I love your videos, man. You're living the best life.

I've spent around 6 months of my life in Varanasi at different times (3 years in India/Nepal overall.) Drinking a bhang lassi (ancient cannabis edible that is no jooooke!) and chilling on the ghats, watching the craziness of India go by, is one of the most incredible experiences in the world. And if you ever go, don't miss the Nepali Temple a bit before sunset. It's a magical place. Never saw the skaters, but just walking through Varanasi takes 100% concentration (cow shit, my bros, everywhere), so skating there is ever so sick.

I lived in India around 3years and Nepal around one year, with longboards I could deal with those streets, but I don't know how you guys are making it look so smooth😅 If you go back to Bangkok, there's a 65+ years old g-ma doing all sorts of skate competition, nice shop and surely good footage.
