CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Gwen (Emma Stone) falls during a battle at the clock tower, Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) is unable to save her.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The web-slingin' wall-crawler hits the screens once again in this follow-up to Marc Webb's 2012 reboot of the series. Andrew Garfield returns as Peter Parker, who squares off against the villainous Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. As the film opens, we find Richard (Campbell Scott) and Mary Parker (Embeth Davitz) stealing away with some crucial Oscorp files while leaving young Peter in the care of Aunt May (Sally Field) and Uncle Ben. Flash forward about a decade, and Peter (Garfield) is swinging into action as Spider-Man; having successfully thwarted the hijacking of an Oscorp truck by notorious Russian criminal Aleksei Sytsevich (Paul Giamatti), Peter ditches the costume just in time to meet up with Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) at their high school graduation. Despite his deep love for Emma, however, Peter remains haunted by his promise to her late father not to get emotionally involved with her for fear that she could be targeted by Spider-Man's enemies. Meanwhile, young Harry Osborne (Dane DeHaan) inherits OsCorp and a deadly retrovirus from his father Norman (Chris Cooper), and brilliant but timid OsCorp scientist Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx) gets infused with a powerful dose of electricity while attempting to fix a faulty power circuit in the lab. Upon regaining consciousness, Max discovers that he has the power to harness electrical currents - the higher the voltage the more powerful he becomes. When a battle with Max in Times Square shorts out Spidey's web-shooters, Peter goes to work on developing a more reliable model of his signature weapon while Harry grows convinced that Spider-Man's blood is the key to his survival. Later, villainous OsCorp chairman Donald Menken (Colm Feore) steals the company out right out from under Harry, driving the vengeful youth to break Max -- now Electro -- out of the heavily-guarded Ravencroft Institute for a two-pronged attack on Menken and Spider-Man. The stage for that battle is set when New York City goes dark just as Peter declares his love to Gwen, plunging the wise-cracking web-slinger into a fight that could forever alter the course of his life.

The fact that Gwen's father didn't want her to be involved with Peter for this exact reason makes this scene even sadder.
Agreed
Indeed... That adds to Peter's guilt for not keeping his promise
Gwen should do skydiving move to slow her down
Yea I would of been dead too
A Perm yea you're right. when the web ripped, she was still in the move and then suddenly when peter was going to catch her she made a different move hahaha

@@j0an-07-arc6 Spider-Man is not a movie where the heroines must die. Gwen had to survive. They could use the same antidote as Gary. Scriptwriters could do this. We do not need this kind of drama.
The web turning into an outstretched hand is one of the most artistic things I’ve seen in a Spider-Man movie. So touching and emotional
So glad someone noticed.
Exactly. It's so full of emotions. Like even the spider web is desperately reaching out to save her.
That's one of my most favorite details and parts of Spider-Man. This was so heartbreaking. Gwen was a beauty...she still is.
I swear to God, there is such brilliance scattered throughout these ASM movies, like, it's such a shame that Sony was calling the shots at the end of the day. With a director like Marc Webb and the heart that he brings to all his movies, to this day I still wish we could have gotten a lot more of this sort of thing and not the corporate hubris clusterfuck show we got courtesy of Sony. If these movies had a lot more Webb in them than Sony, they'd probably be considered classics.
His emotions went thru all of him is how I saw it. Never noticed it before but thats def has to be his hand in the trailer. Prolly awesomely jumps out a portal in from of tom and just saves mj. Y else switch angles to show asm hand

This scene never fails to make me cry like a baby. Gwen didn't scream at all, and you can see how she just closed her eyes when Peter shot the web to catch her. She knew it was futile and she knew this was part of being in love with a hero, you become his ultimate weakness. I'm not sure if it was her head hitting the concrete or her spine snapping. She had to be falling a good couple miles per hour downward, then the web is like a thin string that ties around you. You come to a sudden stop, you're gonna end up breaking something. I wish he could've opened up to the other Peters. I'm so, so happy he essentially got to have a second chance. He saved MJ, the Gwen Stacy of... Well, himself from another timeline. They are all spiderman, but different timelines. Same guy with relatively same story. He was able to save this version of Gwen (MJ) for another version of himself (Tom Holland's Peter). You could see the pain yet relief in his eyes when he caught her, since he knew he was able to stop something like that from happening again. It's horrible he had to learn such a lesson in this way, to catch with his body and then use webbing to suspend yourself. :(
she broke her neck
@maxbutler1958
In the comic she snapped her neck. But in the movie her head hits the ground
In this case, it's the two opcions: she hit her head with concrete and broke his spine, partially. This happens cause her head doesn't fully absorb her cinetic force, which is also distributed between the string and her spine (and with the entire body, in less quantity), so it would be surprising if she at least had some some broken vertebrae. What kills her it's the hit in the head, but the broken spine still being an important injury.
I think her back snapped, and her head was also crushed from the fall. The back of her head definitely hit the ground too hard, and her back bended entirely unatturally. Even if she survived, she would be brain dead, and paralyzed. Poor girl.
"with a hero" why wouldn't she be seen as a hero as well here? Only cuz she's not primarily about action in beating up bad guys?
He finally got emotional closure and redemption 😭😭 His face was heart-breaking

@@beelzebub7728 worser. If They Didnr Accept You As Their Child..
Gwen’s death in this movie is a piece of art. The webbing symbolizes Peter reaching out to her. The slow motion represents how they feel time slowing down when they look at each other. Like how you feel when you look at the one you love and feels like time stops. The way it shows the clock represents their time running out together and her life flashing before her eyes. The way it shows her falling in the Lenses of spidey’s mask symbolizes how he is focused on saving her and that they glaze into each others eyes before the final fate. The way Gwen also shows fear in her eyes and the final breath of acceptance. This scene is so poetic.

Andrew Garfield's spider-man is the most damaged spider-man than other versions. He lost his parents, he lost his uncle, he lost captain stacy, he lost dr. connors, he lost his best friend, and most of all, he lost his girl. lol y'all just stating the obvious and I don't bias over andrew as spider-man. we all know spider-man's backstory but i'm talking about andrew garfield's *version* of peter parker's point of view. he promised to a dying captain stacy to leave gwen, but gwen still ended up dead because of him. imagine the amount of self-doubt and guilt...
Fun fact: Before they film this devastating emotional scene, Andrew and Emma agree to not seen each other in 1 week due to his advice said: "'I don’t want to see you! what makes me cry about this scene is the clock's visual metaphor, about time, it matches with Gwen's graduation speech, it's how the film starts and how it ends, with that same speech, and the web takes the shape of a hand, it represents Peter trying to stop time, the clock's parts are scattered everywhere, neither of them knew that their time was limited, we all need to cherish every moment we have with the ones we love, because we never really know when it's going to end

@@Karma-cj1wu no she literally died a hero. She knew the risk but knew if she didn’t help there wouldn’t be power in new york ever again. Thats what makes it so sad.
I think the scene at the bridge where he saves the little boy is more defining. That was the moment he stopped being a vigilante with a personal vendetta and started becoming a real hero protecting the people. That was the real moment Spider-Man was born
I’d also add to tom’s collection the part where he tries to pull the 2 parts of the ferry together and the big illusion scene in far from home. Gosh that was such a well done scene. U can also add all the bully maguire memes to tobey cuz they’re so so so iconic and they’re still funny after all these years. “I’m gonna put some dirt in ur eye” “look at lil goblin jr, gonna cry?”
Ngl Tom hasn’t had his big “moment” yet imo. Maybe the rubble one? Let’s see in next movie.
My girlfriend, my favorite person in the world just died. She was hit by a drunk driver on her Vespa scooter. It’s been the worst and scariest time of my life and I keep thinking back to this scene. I was going to show her this movie when I came to visit just two weeks later. She was only 20
I'm sorry for your loss...
I'm so sorry....
I wish the best for you😭
My condolences, may you meet her again someday in paradise

"No please, please... I can't do this without you" Jesus man. One of the most tear-jerking and painful lines and scenes I've ever seen. Andrew is an incredible actor.
Him saying “No, no please” is one thing. But the silent “I can’t do this without you” is just enough to break even the most cynical heart.
For real he loved her but she knew she was gonna die through she was to close to the ground
Let's talk about the fact that he says I can't breathe not I can't do this without you.
@@jerimyahrivera2972 i saw someone react to this movie and in the captions it said “i cant do this without you”,
He was an incredible Spider-Man and Peter Parker
Andrew's Peter does not catch a break, he's so comic accurate, because everyone he knew either died or turned bad. Never caught a break, and his relationship with Gwen felt loving and genuine, this movie is so great.

Not really genuine love but their relationship could have easily devoloped a lot to really seem genuine..

What people don't realise is that what made this movie bad were the villains. Not Andrew or Emma. They both did their jobs properly
Nickster165 Not everyone thinks that. They constantly say Andrew’s a bad Spider-Man, but this scene proves otherwise. It’s just a “I hate Andrew” bandwagon.
Wrong, this movie has one problem and one problem only, The writing, god awful, made this movie a mess, if it had better writers this could've been the best Spider-Man movie ever even with the predictable death of Gwen Stacy
David Cubillos the death wasn’t that predictable imo. Most people who watch don’t read the comics and most movies wouldn’t kill the main love interest, especially considering she was only a teenager
@@mr.rufasi2729 Facts, I never predicted it. This scene made me feel for Spider-Man in a way I never had for any other version of Spider-Man. Then I went on to learn about the death of Gwen in the comics. I like Tom Holland and all as Spiderman but the MCU is just too kid friendly. Spidey is a comedic guy but we also need more scenes like this for the current Spidey.
What was wrong with the villains?

They don’t have this kind of emotional tension in most superhero films nowadays. This was not a perfect film, but Peter and Gwen’s relationship was golden-tier!
From acting to screen play to the very underrated Cinematographers and Vfx artists...Both of tasm movies were Cinema masterpiece how the screen play to cinemato to Vfx made those swings so lively.. small details like how the web opened up like a hand. How spideys lenses reflected Gwen. How Gwen didn't scream. How the music was so spot on in these movies.
Sure there might be a few prob. with the story and pacing but these films had so much more gone underappreciated.

This scene was done so well, so much tension built up, all the pieces falling into place, like a house stack of cards nearly finished, only to be toppled over
I really like that he didn't "barely not catch her" or "catch her right before she hit the ground".
The fact that the tension made for just enough room to not sufficently stop the fall was unexpected, original, and even more heartbreakingly close.
Yeah her hitting her head like that was so violent and unexpected... It's so horrible 😭
Tension, not elasticity.... But yes
@@redbark7770 thanks, will edit that!
It’s not original. Not saying that as an insult, but it’s based on the fact that in the comics when Gwen Stacey died it was confirmed that it was Peters web that killed her. When trying to save her after the goblin threw her off I think a bridge, Peter tried saving her and shot his Webb at her. He caught her but the whiplash from it caused her neck to snap killing her. The movies it seems didn’t want to go completely in the “Spider-Man killed her direction” but just enough to give homage to the original comic where she died and was shown to be because of Spider-Man (was screwed either way). So the recreated it a bit here showing that the Web stopped her but also caused the whiplash smashing the back of her head on the ground killing her, rather than catching her high enough but the whiplash snaps her neck.
@@TheKnight212 that's actually really cool insight! Thanks for that! I can imagine why they didn't go that route, though I'd love to have seen that. Would probably have been even more crushing for Peter.

she saved 1000 of people dying on those planes just like a hero, she was so smart bright and oxford was for her so she could start a career in sciences cause she deserved it. her brain saved everyone. she was gonna start a great life with peter her parents and siblings and aunt may.
peter lost everyone his parents uncle ben gwen the love of his life . BUT HE STILL GAVE HOPE TO PEOPLE. it’s not his fault she’s dead. he told her not to come , he tried to save her risking his own life. what gwens dad said he didn’t fully keep his promise but he never involved her in spider-man jobs she wanted to come while peter webed her on a car. gwen was just in his personal life
she had a bright future ahead of her but she died like a HERO just like her dad died a HERO just like peters parents died like HEROS just like uncle ben died like a HERO.
i really hope peter keeps being spider-man and give hope which he is . i really hope he finds a good job that suits him and help aunt may. u really hope he falls in love and has a beautiful family with her but he will always carry gwen with him. his love. i really hope he is happy healthy and safe and everyone.
