    I was a long haired rock and roll drummer, gigging steadily, when this movie came out. Me and my band mates went to see it. We walked out 2 hours later forever changed. I opened up an entirely new world of music for us. I will be forever grateful.

      @@mikeschneider1624 Thank you. My classical music appreciation grew to include many of the greatest musicians including modern classical musicians, like Yanni for example.
      I got to see many live performances: symphonies, operas, ballets and loved them all. I learned to appreciate that sometimes less is more. One perfect note at the perfect time can be more mesmerizing than a shredding guitar solo.
      Music has always been an important part of my life.

    • @phillipleblanc7823
      @phillipleblanc7823 3 года назад +33

      @@abcdecghijklmn I did see Platoon and lived it. I think I remember seeing a commercial on TV for Amadeus and thought, "That guy looks like a party animal. I'll go see it. " When I left the movie I thought if half of that movie is even half right, Mozart was a serious partier and an amazing musician. So I went to the bookstore and bought a biography on Mozart written by Marcia Davenport in 1935. The oldest biography I could find. The movie was Hollywood for sure but basically correct with regards to Mozart's life and lifestyle. Then I bought his greatest hits LP. Thus started a lifetime of classical music appreciation.

    "On the page it looked nothing. The beginning simple, almost comic. Just a pulse. Like a rusty squeeze box. And then suddenly, high above it. An oboe. A single note, hanging there, unwavering, until a clarinet took it over, sweetened it to a phrase of such delight." - Salieri

      Harry Fishback I saw the movie in theaters as a sophomore in high school for a class assignment on the arts. It changed my life. I am from the inner city and had not ever experienced any classical composer. I tried to hide my confusion and emotions from my classmates, I was overwhelmed. After years and decades I look back and think how my friends couldn’t hear what I was hearing. It’s been many decades now and I have a greater love for life because of that day, and a vast collection of master works that bring me joy.
      If you can, try and spread that joy to young people.

      It's too bad the young Mozart only made it as far north as England when he visited Great Britain... I suspect he would've been fascinated and inspired by Scotland, espescially its musical culture... Can you imagine what his impression of "Piobaireachd/Ceol Mor" might have been? What if he had married a "MacCrimmon" instead of a "Hoffer"? (I didn't think Wolfie would've converted to Presbyterianism, but I do believe he would've been happy to indulge in ceilidh and haggis and uisgebhatha (and bonnie lassies) ... Perhaps he could've met a certain poet in Ayrshire? Can you imagine a Burns libretto set to the tunes of him? 😂

    The Wind Serenades(Nos10-12) are like some of interludes for winds in last piano concertos absolutely delectable with their blend of instruments. The first of these is the best known although the longest. If you saw "Amadeus" you will remember Salieri, in his first experience of Mozart's music in ecstasy as the oboe introduced the main theme of the adagio with supreme poignancy.
