At five years old I went with my family to see Joseph on Broadway. It was our introduction to Laurie, and we became instant fans. A few weeks after seeing the show, I got $20 as a birthday gift from my aunt, and my mom took me to Sam Goody so I could buy the cast recording. After more than 40 years her voice continues to astonish me.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend lately :)
I have been looking for Laurie Beechman for years. I used to listen to her songs when they came on the showtunes music channel. I forgot her name for so long, but I never forgot her voice. What a talent. I'm so glad I came to this video and others like it to find her again. Rest in paradise to a beautiful soul.
I was a young Coast Guardsman living on Governors Island when I lost my heart to her in Joseph! I literally wept when I found out that we lost her so young. Thank you to all who were close to her.
I don't remember why I clicked on this video a long time ago but it must have been a divine appointment. To listen to and to watch Laurie's performance is to be blessed. This video shows why God gives gifts and talents to people and shows how to use those gifts and talents. Thank you, Laurie, for your dedication and commitment to your art.
I love the rock record she did before she was big on Broadway. That’s how I first learned about her when I randomly picked up the vinyl in a music store several years ago. What a voice, what a talent.
I'll never forget the day I sat in my bed with the SF Chronicle and came across her name on the obit page. "Wait! I know someone with that name..." and then I cried when I realized it was the same Laurie.
Onward led me here too. Just beautiful!!

@Travis Jude yup, I have been using Instaflixxer for years myself =)
I was a kid when I would play the Joseph record album over and over. Her voice was incredible. I always wanted to meet her.
...and she passed eight months later. 💜 Rest easy Laurie. 💜
Onward podcast led me here.
Beautiful

Wonderful clip!! Thanks for posting...
I can't help but smile throughout this performance -- What a gifted woman she was. That last note is sensational.
She's now a star shining beautifully in Eternity.
I will always be a fan. I continue to share her music and voice with everyone!! What a talent!!!
Great post. It's always nice finding more of Laurie who of course left us far too soon. Thank you for posting.
Laurie looked and sounded this wonderful almost to the end.

Me too. When it hit the papers, my aunt told me and I cried uncontrollably. She was so special.

What a beautiful voice. What a huge loss. :(

I have loved her for years. Discovered her in Joseph...years ago. I saw her in Cats. She died at 45. What a loss. RIP.
Adored her. Sweet as her voice.
She was very talented. We lost both her and Nancy La Mott too soon.
she is my cousin
What a talented cousin you had.
Met her many times.. Wow, she was super talented but a total sweetheart of a woman.. I Miss her talent.
9 months later she was dead. What an awakening and shock.
Her memorial at the Winter Garden Theater was one of the saddest events I’ve ever attended.
GONE TOO SOON!
RIP
How in the world did Rosie not mention that Laurie replaced Betty Buckley as Grizabella the first time she was in Cats on Broadway.
It's so hard to fathom that she died just nine months after this was aired. Just doesn't seem right.
wonderful voice.!!!!!!!!!.......she died?...
***** that hurts, people valuable, death !!
The Peddlers version was better
