I remember when this game released. Back in 98’ I was ten years old. (Some of you kids can’t imagine going from the game graphics of alttp to OOT) But.. a commercial came on for the game and my dad looked at my mom and said “I need that game” we packed up and headed to the nearest Walmart. It was close to Christmas and the stores were busy. I remember looking at all the game cartridges through the display looking at the Zelda box art wondering what kid of world it will be to explore. Couldn’t wait to get home. I knew I wasn’t going to get to play but was excited just to watch my dad play it. I was sitting on the living room floor looking at the instruction manual art and there is that song.. and link riding a horse through the field. Not knowing that moment would hold so much nostalgia for the rest of my life. All while my mother complaining that watching was making her sick and gonna give her a seizure lol Now I’m 32 years old still discussing Zelda with my dad and trying to figure out the dreaded timeline while my 11 year old son is playing Zelda and drawing Zelda themed art in a room full of Zelda collections. Nintendo.. please stay true to the aspects that made Zelda.. Zelda for so many of us.

Sometimes it even seems they take down things because they see there is interest in it like in AM2R and make them themselves like with Samus Returns,which suspiciously happened right after the takedown.

Between this, and seeing Lon Lon Ranch and some of the other ruins brought back to life in Age of Calamity- what it really makes me want is a full, open-world Ocarina of Time. Put it the Breath of the Wild map, re-imagine the dungeons (maybe add a few more for good measure) and take my money.

Not only that, it's one of the best games ever made, and this is a beautiful, obviously very lovingly made recreation. You are doing fantastic work with this, and are incredibly talented. I love how it looks. Especially the area around the temple of time but the hyrule field at 2:15 looks a little too streched and close in the background.
Right? When I think of the game and the magic of it all with the innovation it presented as a kid, this honors the memories in my head. It definitely feels right mentally because we’re always prone to remember games having better graphics than they actually did.

The animation is just out of sync. It's hard to fix that. I think eventually he will need to implement a dynamic animation that changes speed based on the characters speed

Our family had a whole day dedicated for playing Zelda OoT and sometimes even the neighbors would stay overnight just to watch (because having N64 was so special!). All of us had a role, whether it be snack duty, writing down notes/creating a walk through, or just discussing the puzzles or making theories together with our imaginations. we were of 1 collective mind. oh.. Thinking of that time is like remembering a dream. and it also makes me tear up, now that everyone is separated and living their own individual lives.
wow this looks amazing, I LOVE Hyrule Castle town, it looks amazing and so crystal clear and bright. All the background characters are so in focus and so clear, temple of time church looks so awesome LOVE the outside view it looks so majestic and huge, and the inside looks awesome but wish that church singing was there like in the original as that sounds are gone in this video. Still a great job love your work.

This looks incredible! The only thing I need to mention is something that most game developers need to realize (and it has little to do with the graphics themselves): Have an option to adjust text size. Not everyone has 20/20 vision and the current trend of tiny fonts just to make them razor-sharp makes it tough for visually-impaired people to play current games. (Yes I realize this is more of a tech demo and such, but it's still something worth pointing out in the hopes that future game developers take note)
I doubt it could run anything like this. I mean, look how much it struggled with the witcher, for one thing. For another, look at the machine the content creator is using to run this. It's a beast.

Almost non of them make their own games movies or books, but they still judge them based on their experience with the product. I can criticize this game if I saw something about it that I might not enjoy and could end up informing the creator about a flaw they didn't notice.

I believe as long as he has some things that differentiate from the game, it’s not entirely copying, at least in the eyes of the law anyway. Such as the Etika shrine.
Realistic lighting is usually seen as an inherently good thing, but it can look uncanny with cartoony characters. Cartoony characters = more stylized lighting
C F I never liked the unreal engine after the first few times I saw it (like 3 years ago). Yes, I know it’s amateur made but it just looks like a broken game. If someone really wants to impress me with this style they have to complete every aspect of the map, lighting and shading, character movement, and others.
gnbman I don’t know about that, it worked for Wind Waker Remake and for realistic shader mods for Minecraft. The uncanniness you are noticing is probably just seeing well developed realistic lighting juxtaposed to assets that could be improved. Like consider the Temple of Time, it looks great but thats because the visuals for that area are all about the light and the shadows; the Temple itself is as minimally designed as you can get, completely resting on the lighting so nothing really looks that off, now compare this with the town square, theres a lot of stuff in this area (its not just a marble floor and walls) and the more stuff you have the more work you have to polish for things that arent polish will just add to a greater unsatisfactory view; like the fact there is zero reflections in the water or how the metal fence around the water also doesnt reflect light, why not make the trees and shrubs within the square flow in the wind and why not add some random butterflies. The more developed these assets get the farther it will look from the uncanny valley and more immersive the visuals will become.
@@Sketchy144 You have a point, but the lighting in Wind Waker HD was definitely stylized. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the character models look like odd living dolls in this video because the lighting looks so close to real life, at least compared to them.

The animation is just out of sync. It's hard to fix that. I think eventually he will need to implement a dynamic animation that changes speed based on the characters speed

My 2 cents, temple of time needs a bit more reverb in the sound effects. ie: footsteps, floor sounds etc..

@Dragawh 99% sure? What are you, his receptionist? Adding reverb to a room in UE4 is as simple as clicking a button, drawing a box, and adjusting the properties. In a project this large and so faithful to the original, it seems more like an oversight to me.

Our family had a whole day dedicated for playing Zelda OoT and sometimes even the neighbors would stay overnight just to watch (because having N64 was so special!). All of us had a role, whether it be snack duty, writing down notes/creating a walk through, or just discussing the puzzles or making theories together with our imaginations.
we were of 1 collective mind.
oh.. Thinking of that time is like remembering a dream.
and it also makes me tear up, now that everyone is separated and living their own individual lives.

wow this looks amazing, I LOVE Hyrule Castle town, it looks amazing and so crystal clear and bright. All the background characters are so in focus and so clear, temple of time church looks so awesome LOVE the outside view it looks so majestic and huge, and the inside looks awesome but wish that church singing was there like in the original as that sounds are gone in this video. Still a great job love your work.

The only thing I need to mention is something that most game developers need to realize (and it has little to do with the graphics themselves): Have an option to adjust text size. Not everyone has 20/20 vision and the current trend of tiny fonts just to make them razor-sharp makes it tough for visually-impaired people to play current games.
(Yes I realize this is more of a tech demo and such, but it's still something worth pointing out in the hopes that future game developers take note)

My point still stands, book critics, movie critics, game critics. Almost non of them make their own games movies or books, but they still judge them based on their experience with the product.
I can criticize this game if I saw something about it that I might not enjoy and could end up informing the creator about a flaw they didn't notice.

Yeet imagine a full team of people paid to work on that kind of project. That guy is probably alone on his tasks and he is able to show something almost commercial at some moments. I’m watching his videos for years now and I’m sad Nintendo cannot provide a project like that. Did you see how that temple is beautiful with the mirror effect on the ground and light effects? I’m sure Nintendo wouldn’t release something that beautiful they would release a downgraded version.

I never liked the unreal engine after the first few times I saw it (like 3 years ago). Yes, I know it’s amateur made but it just looks like a broken game. If someone really wants to impress me with this style they have to complete every aspect of the map, lighting and shading, character movement, and others.

gnbman I don’t know about that, it worked for Wind Waker Remake and for realistic shader mods for Minecraft. The uncanniness you are noticing is probably just seeing well developed realistic lighting juxtaposed to assets that could be improved. Like consider the Temple of Time, it looks great but thats because the visuals for that area are all about the light and the shadows; the Temple itself is as minimally designed as you can get, completely resting on the lighting so nothing really looks that off, now compare this with the town square, theres a lot of stuff in this area (its not just a marble floor and walls) and the more stuff you have the more work you have to polish for things that arent polish will just add to a greater unsatisfactory view; like the fact there is zero reflections in the water or how the metal fence around the water also doesnt reflect light, why not make the trees and shrubs within the square flow in the wind and why not add some random butterflies. The more developed these assets get the farther it will look from the uncanny valley and more immersive the visuals will become.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that the character models look like odd living dolls in this video because the lighting looks so close to real life, at least compared to them.

im sure theres a lot of work put into this and also im not saying this wasnt a lot of work. but look at what devs of the industry can make unreal engine 4 look like. now look at this. nintendo sure could put out a game that look like gears5 or destiny. the thing is: they dont want to. they have their art direction, their platforms and their priorities are elsewhere.
