    The more I see of this game, the more it seems to be a mix of Okami + Bayonetta. I've never played a Bayonetta game but I'm far more inclined to try the series with this entry first over the mainline games since this is the type of game that appeals to me.
    I also have a feeling that this game is also going to be an expensive collector's item one day.

I played the demo last weekend. I'm buying it because the story hooked me and the graphics are gorgeous! I can't wait to play it.

    Didn’t really mention anything about the narrative. The review made combat and mechanics the central focus. I am a Bayonetta fan and I am excited for this because, believe it or not, there are Bayo fans who want to find out more about the lore (or maybe I am the one guy). After playing the demo, I know that I am buy this game. It plays very well and looks amazing, most noteworthy is that it leans way into where it intends to go, the narrative. If people are expecting depth within the combat mechanics, they can’t read the room. The game it literally in a storybook format. Thanks for the review.

  • @Chris349

    Just finished the game and the bonus story that you unlock when doing so. I am going to go back and get 100% now. This review seems fairly accurate. Towards the end, the game does suffer from repetition, particularly from the battles feeling mostly the same. With that said I was impressed by the enemy variety and the ways they were introduced. Was this game really the pushover that critics say? Well, aside from the ending stage which really feels like its own game, the game is relatively easy on "normal" difficulty" mode. I found it to be just enough of a challenge to keep me engaged, but not nearly enough to have to go back and really learn the mechanics or practice to get past. Most fights and puzzles can be completed on their first attempt. Don't take me wrong though, there are some very creative and interesting puzzles that will take you a couple tries to beat. This is probably when the game is at it's best: the combination of incredible visuals, controlling two characters simultaneously, and also solving puzzles is a truly awesome gaming experience.
    The final part of the game takes a few plot twists and leaves you fighting multiple bosses while also going through some fun action sequences. The final "final" boss is easily the hardest fight in the game requiring some fairly tight timing and movement. This is where we get a glimpse of a traditional Bayonetta game. But judging this game on combat alone would be unfair. This is a story-driven experience with plenty of areas to unlock and explore. You will want to sit back and read all the intriguing lore that you stumble upon and shoot for that 100% completion. Overall a great game for the Switch that looks amazing, plays great, and might leave you with the feels in the end: 8.5/10 for me.

    I've played the demo and really loved it! The world is gorgeous to look at and it rewards exploration, and doesn't punish a bit of sloppiness too hard, which is something I appreciate these days. And it's interesting to experience how Bayonetta was like before she actually became... well... Bayonetta. Now, for full disclosure I do own the first two Bayonetta games, but I've only played through maybe a 1/4 of the first game. So it's not as if I'm especially invested in the gameplay of the main games. So cannot tell if a hardcore fan of those will like this game. But for me it's a winner, and I'll definitely get the full version soon!

  • @TheLonelyGoomba

    The game reminds me of what would be a handheld / DS iteration of the series. Only the DS doesn't exist anymore. So it gives of a lower budget vibe.
    It reminds me sooooo much of Okamiden on the DS. Not just the visuals too.
    The problem I'm having with this game is that it's like..12 hours long and £50. The gameplay doesn't seem thaaaaat good and as far as I know there's no replay value once you beat the game. The game seems to rely strongly on the whimsical vibe and overall tone above everything else. So I'll probably check it out if it goes down in price. Otherwise, budgets a bit tight and can't really spend £50 on a game that I'll likely beat in a few days

    • @Pownchao
      @Pownchao Год назад +2

      I think the reasons for why it’s not a hard game are what makes that score. Games can be easy and enjoyable if they still feel fresh throughout the whole experience. Their score for Kirby and the Forgotten land (9/10), another easy game, proves this. That 7/10 is still a great score, and I feel it is justifiable because of the bogged down, repetitive nature of the combat. Like said in the review, this game is great, but could’ve done more with pushing and expanding on it’s ideas. As a huge Bayonetta fan, I can accept and appreciate this title for what it is. I’m super glad it exists, and I play it for sure, but it does seem to me like it could do even more. I hope this isn’t a one time thing for the series, as I would love more experimentation in Bayonetta.

    Thank you so much for this video/ I did place an order for it about 6 hours ago, weirdly an hour before you posted this video. I did spend some time looking into it today and all in all it seems quite well received across RUclips etc. Everyone's pretty much said the same thing here. I personally haven't played Bayonetta 1, 2 or 3. They look overly button bash, flashy and crazy so it's not yet appealed to me. It lost me at gun heels. -BUT when I saw this pop up some months back I was really intrigued. I personally like the the story/ tale look. I love the art. I also love that they have taken a flashy gun game and turned it into something so calm and beautiful. It has peaked my interest in the other three games I have to admit it. chances are, I will buy them once I receive this game to complete the set. I also felt pressure to buy the game as the Nintendo store was the only place I could find where the game comes with a steelbook. I like the style of this game and i for sure want to give it a good go. The price is a little steep though I recon. (for the physical)

    Little cereza could and should not face crazy levels of difficulty and here she faces the difficulty that a child should handle when exploring the forest.
    I doubt fans will be disappointed with this game, cause it delivers a new experience in a different way to get to know little cereza a little better. It is a strong game in the sense that it can deliver a nice experience for everyone, fans an newcomers alike.

    This game is my first Bayonetta game. I'm impressed with the style and the fact that it's a new-to-Bayonetta friendly game. By the way, I'm not sure this game's audience is children. It's a casual game, for sure, but little details in the game are just weird? I'm not sure how to describe this feeling. I mean, I felt uneasy when I encountered the Wisps with something that might be cause of their death or when I finished the jester boss. Cereza blew up his body with a bomb in a colorful way. It's like sugar coating things, so it looks less depressing.

    Yeaaaah. I do agree with the "who exactly is Bayonetta Origins for" argument. Like sure, she showed up in Smash, but turning a dominatrix witch into a child and having her star as an entry point is a bit... strange. And people will say "they're appealing to casual audiences". NOPE. I've seen the marketing. It seems like they're trying to hit the younger audience. Casual people might play it SURE, but there's always a specific age group they're trying to reach. Not a fan of the pet demon stuff and the witch stars either. Would've been fine if they did a new character entirely and laid off the imagery. Or if you do want to make this a Rated M game, lean on the stuff you couldn't get away with Okami. If I sound uptight I'm not. I'm fine with Bayonetta as its own franchise, but Kamiya has to be out of his MIND if he thinks he can branch out like this.

    • @Xenowolf8
      @Xenowolf8 Год назад +4

      They didn’t turn her into a child out of nowhere, Bayonetta’s childhood has always been an extremely important part of her character. Also the series takes a lot of inspiration from classic European fairy tales, especially Alice in Wonderland. So making a prequel about Bayonetta’s childhood that leans fully into a pre-established aesthetic makes perfect sense. That’s probably the reason Kamiya wanted to make it for so long, he wanted to make a game that fleshes out an aspect of the series that was only ever shown in stilted cutscenes.

I didn't feel the same rush from the more difficult modes that I got from games like Hollow Knight which constantly reward mastering each newly introduced mechanic.
    I love difficult games when they aren't just hard for the sake of giving people bragging rights, but I also love creative games that have heart and do things differently. I'm not sure if I'll ever play Bayonetta 3, but I will definitely be picking this up.

      You've got to be kidding :D the first bayonetta is really tough to master and requires a really high skill level and usage of all its simple mechanics at once. Parry, dodge offset, panther offset, taunt offset, crow offset, finisher moves, torture attacks, dodging and bat within. It's a high skilled game. If you're trying to button mash on the higher difficulties it would seem artificially hard because you haven't dived deep into its mechanics. I agree about bayonetta 2 tho - enemies attack off screen there, in 3 as well.

Like it or not girls weren't inundated with video games like boys were to find original Bayonetta all that approachable and a lower difficulty may make wanting to approach it more appealing, while making them better at more difficult games.
    I think these are good steps to turn everyone into Gamers who crave a challenge.
