Hey Greg, nice reaction. This is a first for me as well. I've seen the name, but haven't checked them out. I don't understand how songs like this don't make it to our radio stations here in the NY area. We have a couple of college and new music stations, but they tend to ignore UK acts like this. They seem to gravitate to what I call "alternative bland" bands and artists here in the US. I guess I'm like you, probably from the UK in a prior life. That being said, there are some US acts which don't get the attention they deserve as well.
A band which has truly withstood the test of time in the face of "landfill indie" coming out of the UK in the 00s. They've amassed a huge cult following and are still active 20 years deep. They've so much to love about them and with an awesome back catalogue you can dive into and check out how their sound has evolved over the years. For their earliest sound, I'd recommend "You Were Always The One" from their debut or "Hey Scenesters!" from their sophomore record. And for their latest, I'd say "Siren Sing Along" or "Running Into You" from their most recent LP. Happy Cribs-ing!

The track ‘cheat on me’ is my favourite of theirs, and has the great Johnny Marr on it.
