This was great, such a clear explanation, thank you! I have an O&C with Hemispheres because of you, but I think I’ll try flashing Benispheres now. Also - I’d be hugely grateful for a detailed Zadar video. It’s such an intriguing module but very few videos on YT to inspire me to take the plunge and if you would do one we’d have the clearest explanation of what it is and how to use it for sure!
Thanks for posting this for both the in-depth explanation _and_ for introducing me to Benispheres, this adds so much more useful stuff for me where I'm at right now.
Very Nice, I had recently made a new panel for my O_C with the intention of putting the Hemispheres Suite on it, think i'll add this Firmware instead. Nice explanation as always!
umming and ahhing about trying alt firmware to original, but you and @DashGlitch convinced me. Skipped Hemi and went straight to Beni. Thankyou for your excellent tutorials and useful links.
You won't regret it - also look at Phazerville which takes Benispheres and enhances it with new applets and features. I did a video two weeks ago on it
Thank you so much for this! I almost sold my uo_c because i found myself only using it as a pitch quantizer lol This firmware really opens up some new use cases! Love the cv to midi for doing wacky modulation of ableton stuff! Cheers man!
Benispheres has some great additions and has changed the way i use my O_c. It used to sit on the sidelines in case I needed a spare utility. Now it’s a core part of my rack and patched every time.
First, thanks for all your good content that you are sharing with us, I would like to know if by upgrading my Ornament from Hemisphere to the Benispheres I will still have the Hemi features or they will be replaced. Thanks :D
Benispheres contains most of the existing Hemispheres applets and adds some new functions. It also incorporates the TB-3PO firmware as well so you get that too
Thanks for the video. I'm loving Benispheres - he seems to have hit the sweet spot with what to include in the limited memory available. Can you find any options to reverse encoder direction? Can't seem to find it on mine.
Thanks for your informative videos! I am not sure which suite I have, I have TB-3PO and stairs but I dont have drum map and other applets mentioned here, I was under the impression I would lose boots'n'cat if I had TB-3PO but I have it (?) Thanks!
Thanks for the great video. I didn't quite understand about ProbDiv and ProbMeloD? I can use them independently of each other, can't I? Can I only use one of each of the four outputs, i.e. one gate and one CV?
I'm trying to decide between a mutable marbles and a ornament and crime, and I'm not sure which one would be best because I can't seem to see if the ornament and crime is capable of being a "standalone" random sequencer, without an additional clock module. Can I use the ornament and crime this way by forwarding the internal clock to ProbMeloD or something?
Hi - good question. They’re too very different modules. O_C does have an internal clock. You can set it in the Metronome applet, and then it’s available for all other applets in both hemispheres. Clock can be forwarded between both hemispheres, or only apply to one. So no need for an external clock module. ProbDiv and ProbMeloD are good examples of applets that take advantage of the built in clock.
Thank you for the overview, it's really hard to see the screen of the modules though. Could you zoom in more next time or shoot it from above so it's clearer? Thanks!
So annoying - I’ve been trying to get this working but some of the new apps in Benispheres just won’t work. Hemispheres worked perfectly, and the Benispheres install seemed to work just fine. But on Shredder, for example, it just won’t get going. I’ve tried putting in a clock directly, or forwarding from the other side, but shredder just sits there. You can shred it, but it won’t move with the clock.. had to reinstall Hemispheres, which again, works perfectly. Any ideas? I really wanted to use some of the newer apps :-(
That is really weird! I've never experienced any issues with Benispheres. Was it just shredder having the issue or did other apps as well? Is it related to the clock? How long are the clock pulses you are sending in and at what level?
@@SynthDad most of the apps work fine but not shredder and one or two others. It’s like it doesn’t see the clock. I’m mainly using Pam’s but tried a square LFO too. It just sits there!
Not quite anything as robust as Quantermain unfortunately. The whole ethos behind the Hemisphere Suite as an alternative to the stock firmware was to sacrifice functionality for simplicity and ease of use. I'm working towards a build chain like they have for the FX Aid where you can mix and match your own apps and applets though, so maybe one day you'll get to include it!
uO_c is a great module. I have three of them. I don’t keep them in the same rack but they’re always useful. I bought it originally for a quad envelope generator. But I’ve since used hemisphere and found that there’s all kinds of great stuff in there. Sometimes I’m thinking I need a new module and I’ll take a closer look at the Hemisphere list and find out that I’ve already got it I just didn’t realize it. No doubt I’ll have to try this new firmware in one of mine.

Thanks for watching - appreciate it! I haven't thought of a Zadar video before, so thanks for the suggestion.
I'm also interested.
I'd been dragging my feet on reflashing my uO_C away from stock firmware, but this pushed me to do it! Can't wait to explore, thanks!
You sir, just saved me around 500 bucks as I was on the brink of getting both a grids and a mimetic digitalis. Time to put o_c back in my case!
Thanks - now you can spend that money on more O_Cs!
Glad I could help save money!
Thanks for posting this for both the in-depth explanation _and_ for introducing me to Benispheres, this adds so much more useful stuff for me where I'm at right now.
You're very welcome!
Thank you for the surgical breakdown of these apps. I just sold my mimetic, glad to see I still have it (albeit metamorphosed with quantization)!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. Can't wait for the VOR update to this fork.

Wow! Very very big thanks! Always waiting for your O&C videos.
P.S BugCrack is just fire!
Indeed it is! Got a deep sound from it
@18:04 Is that a generative interpretation of Sir Mix A-lot “Baby Got Back”….Other than that, Amazing vid!! Keep the hits coming!!
Now that you say that it *does* sound like it! Who knew modular liked Sir Mix-A-Lot!

Another brilliant and informative video which inspires me to spend even more time exploring my modular system. Many thanks !

Thank you for letting me know about this amazing firmware. Installed it today and it was instant fun! Now I want one more o_C! :D

Agree - it really makes the O_C shine
Love to hear this, thanks for sharing!

Which firmware did you install? The latest is either Benispheres or Phazerville
@@SynthDad Thanks for your reply, I bought the module (LW 4U) second hand, previous owner told me it was running Hemispheres
@@construct09 It is easy to upgrade to a new firmware and that way you can be sure what it is running
Thanks for the great video.
I didn't quite understand about ProbDiv and ProbMeloD?
I can use them independently of each other, can't I?
Can I only use one of each of the four outputs, i.e. one gate and one CV?
Absolutely, I do that all the time. They work great together, but can be used independently too
Thanks for the answer. But what will be with the outputs? Can only use one and one right?
@@mit136speichenumdiewelt no I think you can have two copies of ProbDiv running in both hemispheres as it just uses two outputs
Thanks for this videos, very interesting
My pleasure!

Guessing it isn't possible but just had to ask: are you able to save settings of ProbMeloD and ProbDiv as presets?
I don't think there's enough FLASH RAM in the Teensy chip used in the O_C to store all the settings. Worth trying out though
Thank you for the overview, it's really hard to see the screen of the modules though. Could you zoom in more next time or shoot it from above so it's clearer? Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to position the camera better next time
Really great video! Will Benispheres work on the Plum Audio OCP+?
I think there's a jumper to disable VOR on that one, but if not, VOR support is coming in the next few weeks!
@@BeniRoseMusic ah great! Looking forward to the VOR release!

strange that the left uO_C has different screen refresh rate than the other on..
You know I've never noticed that before - well spotted!
Hey Dad, since you're THE go to guy for O_c stuffs, have you looked into the teensy 4 modules with the squares and circles firmware yet?
I've seen the Teensy 4 but haven't had a chance to get one yet
thanks a lot for all your videos. Benisphere seems great but is there an app in benisphere like the awesome quantermain app best regards
Benispheres includes the apps from Hemispheres which includes quantisers. Not quite the same as Quantermain, but close

Totally agree - O_C (especially the uO_C) has just about every CV manipulation function you need in modular.

Thank you!
I was hoping for at least 5 uO_Cs 🔍
Ornament All The Crimes!
For sure, two can be underwhelming
Great Video. Thx so much👍👍👍
