Great timing as I've been digging deeper into my ornament. Thanks for all your work on this vid; such great timing with regard to how long you stay on a single topic.
Awesome vid. The "select chord from CV" seems like it would be great when used with a Muxlicer as the CV source. Gotta get patchin... Keep up the great work, these tutorials are gold.
Great tutorial. I am still struggling to understand o_c but this video helps. I got lost when you mentioned that B C & D outputs were plugged in. I notice that ABC seem to be the ones being plugged in. 2:00
I recently purchased an Instruo Harmonaig, which is a quantized chord generator - and it wasn't cheap. As I've become interested in O&C enough to order one, I'm now wondering if I should've learned more about O&C! first! This module is delightful sorcery! And extra thanks for dedicating so much of your time for this and your other O&C tutorials...They are great! Subscribed :)
Hey :) Just want to say that I've been absolutely loving all of your videos whilst I get to know my O_c and I also feel like I've got to know you, I've watched so many!! haha I was wondering here if we can use CV to change the chord masking at all? THANKS Aaron
Great videos! Thank you so much for making this great module simpler by explaining it so thoroughly! And a question: Do you have a number of modules and some cases which you put together for each video's purpose?
Thank you! Happy to hear you found the tutorial useful, and if you’ve any feedback let me know. I have a number of modules in my larger case and for a tutorial I’ll pick the key ones and place them in my small 60hp portable case. That way I can focus in on the key aspects of the module I’m covering without distractions
I'm a novice, and probably have more modules than I should, certainly some I should learn how they work. I'm slowly being persuaded that an o&c would be a lot of fun. Cheers
I've been looking for a decca w/ no luck, to meet a specific need. Can you think of an app on O&C (og or hemispheres) that can function the way the decca does for you, and/or that can switch between pre-assigned voltages, like a rene or pressure points?
Good question! The simplest solution would be to use a Sequencer per hemisphere to get two voltages. Or use the Voltage applet in Hemispheres to generate a total of 4 voltages in response to gates. I also think the Calibr8or applet in Phazerville can approximate what you want.
@@SynthDad Thanks for the reply (and all of the helpful vids). I think Voltages will do the trick in the short term, but fingers crossed for a more dedicated applet!
I was so looking forward to getting this. My screen doesn't have a chords option. Any thoughts on why? I just received it a few days ago from After Later. :/
@@SynthDad I have V 1.3.6 When it turns on I see an option for calibration or select app. After the screen transitions, I see: Root Mask Octave Buf. Index Hold (Beflen) Trigger Delay Input Gain CV4 Dest. CV Source
That’s a good question. You’re going to need more than a single O_C to make a Krell patch. I think Piqued would be what you want to generate envelopes and looping LFOs that modulate each other
@@SynthDad Oh sorry, what I meant to say was if I have a Krell patch going and I want to send the end of cycle pulse that I'd normally use to determine pitch (via a S&H & quantizer) to one of the chord generators/sequencers on the o_C instead, what would be a good way to achieve that (a different chord with each rise/fall of a cycling, modulated envelope)
This is great! I never tried acid curds yet. If I understand well since I should set the key (eg major) it will automatically know that the second chord is minor, the 4th chord is major, etc?
@@SynthDadI didn't know that there is a way to trigger the envelopes externally (as you are doing in your patch using pamela). I knew from the user manual that the envelopes only trigger by changing notes. Maybe I got to update the firmware I don't know. Thanks anyway
These videos are the best resource I have found for learning the o_c I hope we get to see a video for all the modules eventually!
Thanks - working my way through the apps.
From one synth dad to another, thank you for making these!
Glad you like them!
Phenomenal tutorial. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!

Thanks! I plan on making more in this series too
O_c is a complicated beast. Thanks for those tutorials. Well made!
Thank you!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

That would be cool! I was just looking at Muxlicer as a potential sequential switch to play around with.

Oh darn - did I get that wrong - sorry! Thanks for watching though

There is so much packed into the O&C you could spend a long time exploring it. Thanks for subbing!
Very clear and useful thanks for making it. Neat trick with the key step too
Thanks!
100 percent awesomely helpful and cool...
Thanks!

Great to hear - yes CV can change the chord mask by rotating it. You can't change the notes in the chord mask over CV though.

@@SynthDad And that's where the Befaco Knurlies come in hand eh? 👍
Looks like a powerful app. Nice tutorial!
It is! Thanks you for watching - hope it was helpful

It appears intimidating at first but once you spend time with each app they make more sense. It’s a very powerful module
Thank you for this vid! excellent explanation
Thanks for watching!

I've suggsted that idea to the dev for Phazerville - I think it's a good one!

O_C has four cv outputs, so what cv is being send if I choose an 9th chords that has five notes?
That’s a good question. I don’t know the answer, so will have to go read the code to figure that out
@@SynthDad I see. If you come across something, let me know.
What would you initially tune analog VCOs to? C2=0 Volts?
To be honest I just tune them by ear until I like what I hear). But if I needed them precisely in tune I usually go for C3
I was so looking forward to getting this. My screen doesn't have a chords option. Any thoughts on why? I just received it a few days ago from After Later. :/
What does your screen show? There’s a setting in the O_C firmware which changes the names of all the main menu items
@@SynthDad I have V 1.3.6
When it turns on I see an option for calibration or select app. After the screen transitions, I see:
Root
Mask
Octave
Buf. Index
Hold (Beflen)
Trigger Delay
Input Gain
CV4 Dest.
CV Source
So, did I break it? 😅
Synth Dad, do you have any suggestions on which mode to use on O_C to do chords in a Krell type patch?
That’s a good question. You’re going to need more than a single O_C to make a Krell patch. I think Piqued would be what you want to generate envelopes and looping LFOs that modulate each other

@@SynthDad Awesome. I will try this mode. Thanks for the video.
Hi, great tutorial. Are you using envelope or trigger/gate on the swn or the internal envelopes? How ?
Thanks - in this case I'm using the internal envelopes on the SWN using its built in LFOs set to a short sawtooth decay
@@SynthDadI didn't know that there is a way to trigger the envelopes externally (as you are doing in your patch using pamela). I knew from the user manual that the envelopes only trigger by changing notes. Maybe I got to update the firmware I don't know. Thanks anyway
You forgot to patch out the Root note in output A
Whoops!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
