    This video is great! You explain things very clearly, even better than Yaesu itself does.

    So I get on a local repeater, Put in the PL Tones (DigiID is a CTSCC?) and press DN mode. I have talked with a person and it sounds horrible. But when I press and hold the X, it flashes and goes back to VFO mode. Any ideas?

      Thank you Tony for giving me the opportunity to answer your questions.
      Please remember that PL tones and DG-ID’s are not the same, although have some of the same functions.
      A PL tone is a sub-audible tone that rides on the carrier of your transmission. A PL tone in the FM world is primarily used to open up the squelch on a repeater, it also can be used to open up the squelch on your radio, eliminating ALL your unwanted noise that seems to break through your manual squelch setting, just to annoy you.
      A DG-ID code is a code that is imbedded within the header of the C4FM packet stream. DG-ID’s in the C4FM world not only open up the repeater but in some systems will steer it to another repeater or group of repeaters.
      Sounds like you got on the repeater without any trouble, great 👍. You made a C4FM contact, awesome! Horrible audio? Maybe… Not what you are used to? How does the audio sound between AM and SSB or SSB and FM? You’ll love it after you get used to it.
      The X button is the Wires-X feature, it only works if the repeater has that optional equipment installed and activated.
      1. Just like you set up your radio to use on FM and/or C4FM, you will need to setup your Wires-X feature in the Wires-X portion of the menu on your radio to match the Wires-X node on the repeater.
      2. The Wires-X button should ONLY BE PRESSED WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO CONTROL IT!!! Not to talk to someone who is already on frequency! If you hear them, you can talk to them.
      3. VFO mode? Wires-X will always stay in VFO mode when it exits the Wires-X mode…pretty annoying if you ask me.

    Hi Elmer, I wish you had a PDF file available for all of the terms you used in this presentation. I guess I will have to watch it again and make notes as I go and that's OK. You mentioned that you live in California. I use to live there as well in San Bernardino County, Riverside County and in Ventura County. Take care

      Good morning, I spent most of my life in Bakersfield Kern County. Five years ago I retired and the wife and I moved to Northern California in Placer County, a little community called Gold Run, it’s along I-80, about halfway between Sacramento and Reno. I understand your frustration over the terms used in Fusion. It is so important to understand the terms whether it’s Fusion, D Star or DMR, the terms are different with different meanings that’s why I have a video I believe it’s called “Fusion Terms”. I know the video is long (45 minutes) but it does go through most of the common terms and their meanings. I recommend grabbing a beverage of your choice and marking off about an hour to watch the video, at least once. I do like your idea of a PDF file of terms. Thank you for sharing that. I have acquired a tower from a ham that is moving and today is the day that we are taking it down and bringing it to its new home. That being said, I would still like to have you call me but just not today. My name is Ken and you can call or text me at that number. Thank you. Fusion Terms

    I learned DMR first as a new HAM which was an ordeal, but I figured it out. Recently I acquired a C4FM radio, which is nice, as I prefer Yaesu over other brands. Most of the other HAMs I’ve spoken to say YSF is much easier to learn than DMR, but I’m not sure that’s true. I’ve spent some time listening through my hotspot, but haven’t tried to join the QSOs yet. Would I be ok using an MMDVM, or would it be wise to set up a wires node?

    • @thefusionelmerguy2234
      @thefusionelmerguy2234  9 месяцев назад

      In short, if you’re wanting to get on Wiers-X, you need to set up a Wiers-X node, use your radio to set up a PDN node. All the hotspots on the market do not get into Wiers-X, period! “YSF” is the name of a Reflector, it is not owned or operated by Yaesu. If you are using all Yaesu equipment, it will be very easy to learn and use … just don’t try to over think it! Have fun, hope to have a QSO with you some time. 73 Ken KA6SUB

    YES! Do another video strictly for IRMS. Question: Would my little five watt Fusion HT have to be able to connect directly to a Fusion repeater for IRMS to become available OR is there a way of doing this through WiresX? I guess I am wondering if I would be able to input a fusion repeaters information into a Wires''''X text box in order to make the first "jump"???

    • @thefusionelmerguy2234
      @thefusionelmerguy2234  2 года назад +1

      I am doing a video on IMRS. You need to understand that IMRS is a linking peer-to-peer network that is setup by the repeater trustees and can only contain 100 repeaters. The trustees will let you know if codes are needed, what they are and what they do. Each group sets up there system differently, so I could really only talk about mine. Also, NO control functions will pass though a Wires-X node. In Wires-X you can only make one call to either a room or a node, if you enter another number, it will close your current connection then open the one you requested. This prevents you from connecting a multitude of repeaters together then walking away leaving the world connected. I have a whole “The Fusion Elmer Guy - Repeater Series”, currently their are 3 videos ready for voice over and more planned. This series is created for the repeater trustees and is a step by step video manual with pictures of each button push. I will probably release all 3 at the same time because they just go together.
      Thank you for your comments and I hope that this explanation is helpful.

    I just purchased a Yaesu 991a and tried out the System Fusion (Wires-X, C4FM) and believe me, it all sucks big time. You Yaesu guys said that System Fusion provides crystal clear audio, but that just isn't the case. Every time I go to C4FM the audio is muffled, muddled and other Ham's voices sound like computer generated voices. If I had purchased the Yaesu 991a for the digital mode, I would have immediately returned it. I was considering an ICOM 7300 but other Hams have told me that D-Star (Death Star) is even worse than System Fusion. You guys that designed the digital portion have a long way to go before I consider it a proper mode of communication. I purchased the Yaesu 991a because of it's all mode. We have a 2 meter SSB net here every Wed. night & 2 meter sideband radios are hard to find. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
