  • What is "Yaesu System Fusion"?
    What is "C4FM Mode"?
    What is "Yaesu Wires-X"?
    These are some of the questions that I have voluntarily tried to answer in this presentation for the "Richmond Amateur Telecommunications Society" located in Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A.
    ** NOTE **
    I am in no way affiliated with Yaesu, this presentation is solely put together based on my specific understanding of this subject matter. I am ONLY offering my personal experience and understanding of this particular subject matter. Thanks for the explanation. But I don't understand the appeal. C4FM aside (which seems ok as a system), the rest of the System Fusion is basically just joining a Discord chat room. To me personally, the appeal of the amateur radio is the independent infrastructure. No Internet needed kind of a thing... But it may just be me...

    Excellent video...very informative! I finally understand the whole YSF platform. I only wish I had seen this video BEFORE getting my DMR radios...YSF is so much easier. That being said, it just gave me an excuse to get another radio, which should arrive in a few weeks! Thank you for taking the time to record this video! 73

    Just got a ftm400, lucky to have a wiresx repeater in my area. Being a dstar guy wiresx is so much easier to navigate and use.

    D-star is Only 6.25 Khz, this is Why it's can be Use on HF, because it Narrower then a 10 Khz AM Analog Mode Signal on 80 Meters, C4FM 15 Khz is to Wide to be Use below 10 Meters,

    Like many, thank you for the presentation. Thanks for clarifying what all this is about… because it’s not cheap. Lol. Overall sounds we’re just circling back to the early years of the Internet fun with them ‘bbs’ rooms (for those who remember), which the young gen today label it as ‘discord boards’. Wires X, is just the radio guys flavor/concept of those implementations. Advantage… no typing, just real voice chat over man-ly radios. 😂
    C4FM, as another digital option (i.e. vs DMR, etc), I dig. AMS ability of the Yaesu repeaters/radios, in this ‘Fusion lineup’ is pretty cool/flexible feature.

    I just purchased a Yaesu 991a and tried out the System Fusion (Wires-X, C4FM) and believe me, it all sucks big time. You Yaesu guys said that System Fusion provides crystal clear audio, but that just isn't the case. Every time I go to C4FM the audio is muffled, muddled and other Ham's voices sound like computer generated voices. If I had purchased the Yaesu 991a for the digital mode, I would have immediately returned it. I was considering an ICOM 7300 but other Hams have told me that D-Star (Death Star) is even worse than System Fusion. You guys that designed the digital portion have a long way to go before I consider it a proper mode of communication. I purchased the Yaesu 991a because of it's all mode. We have a 2 meter SSB net here every Wed. night & 2 meter sideband radios are hard to find. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee

    Thank you! You have done a great job of clearly explaining things. Unfortunately the manuals I have with my 3 Yaesu radios (FTM 400; FT 3D; FT 70) just confused me. - 73

    I have a FTM-400XDR, I only use it for analog. All this nonsense about softwares, computers, nodes, rooms, heck, I might as well just go to a chat room on the computer. It would be way easier than this stuff! Im going to donate this dumb zumspot to someone worthy of it.

    Thanks for the video. Is there a tutorial that would walk me through how to set up a WiresX hotspot around my home? I live in a somewhat remote neighborhood and all the local repeater are not Fusion repeaters. Bottom line, I want to be able to use my FT3D around my neighborhood and property.

    I love your "food" analogy. I am an old-timer (licensed in the 60's), and it has been hard for me to get excited about anything other than ham radio by way of atmospheric/ionospheric propagation. I'm willing to learn..... Thanks for your presentation!

    Are u still with T-Mobile? Did they allow u some space on the cell site tower for ur antenna? How high is it?

    • @KC8MTV
      @KC8MTV  Год назад

      Yep, i’m still with T-Mobile. And yes, I have my repeater at the cell site at Bear Den Mountain. The antenna, which is a Sinclair four bay dipole is on a 30 foot commercial pole next to the cell site. I was not given permission to put it on the main tower due to my inability to pay for space on the tower. But I am happy with where the antenna is currently located.

    • @sean-sk
      @sean-sk Год назад

      @@KC8MTV at that location a 30' pole is all that is needed. Google maps has a picture of it. I worked at TMO as a switch tech a long time ago (back when mobile networks still had switches..) Been at ATT for last 15+ years. I wish the mobile operators did more of this where they allow capable employees use some infrastructure (power, building space, tower, etc) but it is complicated. Often we do not own the tower and are co-located for other stuff. But at locations where we own everything outright it would be great. I checked our ATT cell site map tool and we don't have a site on Bear Den at all. 73's
