    why would you weld the tang rather than make it out of the barstock continuous with the blade? Nice video and finished product

    Tang/handle of knife in Rambo part one was hollowed out. it appears in the knife you made that you welded the top closed because if you recall, after Sylvester Stallone jumped off the cliff, he had to retrieve fishing monofilament and a hook or needle to sew up a laceration on his bicep. I don't recall, which he actually used it's been so long since I watched the movie; however, if they stuck to the script of the 70's and 80's survival knife, it would have been fish hook, now, it could be a 22-long rifle that fires out from the tang. If I am incorrect and the top of the tang/handle you built is removable, excellent work, even if it is not, great job! It is something, I cannot do.

    What thickness of metal did you use ? 1/4" inch? I made a Rambo knife afew years ago.. I used 1/4" regular metal.. I didn't have any 1095.. Wish i would have... My knife tends to rust,, I'm guessing that the high carbon metal doesn't rust as fast

    When you want to make a knife you need stainless steel. If you want to prepare yourself steel you need a forge. For steel processing you need a milling cutter. What you did is a kitsch, an imitation. But if you're a young beginner, then you really did a good job

    For your next version just use the lever principle for the tang inside the hollow handle. It can be made almost as solid as a knife with a full tang and solid handle.

    would you be interested in making another one for sale? Or selling the one in the vid? What type metal did you use for the knife? I made one years ago, but didn't use good steel and it rusted really bad. I don't have anything to weld stainless with, So i'm hoping that i can use high carbon 1095 and it not rust as bad as regular blank metal

    • @themanohman7157
      @themanohman7157 4 года назад +1

      @@sbevil_kinevil2898
      Id personally do an oil quench on 1095 as its a carbon steel. Ive heard of people water quenching 1095 when theyre doing things like differential annealing/tempering (where the spine is softened further than the edge to allow a flexable spine but a hard cutting edge) or things like a japanese hamon. For general knife making, an oil quench for 1095 is your best bet, lest you risk the knife cracking.

    I really love your knife i like how the green wrapping is a lighter forest green than rambos but strangly it works and looks just as nice just different making it its own i guess the only thing i wonder is why you didn't drill the 2 holes in the sides of the handle to lace the leather string through rambo 2 knife has a hole on the bottom pommel of the knife but first blood only had the handle for that and even though i really like the phillips and flathead screwdriver combo on the original handle i think yours is cool without it too i like the more plain look esp with the lighter green wrapping it makes it your own while still being dead on replica but i really wish you would have drilled the 2 holes on the guard other than that the knife is perfect if your interested id gladly pay you to make me one exactly like yours but with the 2 holes if its no trouble im not sure how much it cost you to make but id pay you at least $200.00 for it or whatever is reasonable and fair if your interested or would do that for me it would mean the whole world to me i really really love your unique style of this first blood knife my number is 801-835-7049 i live in sandy utah your more than welcome to call me if you like id be open to that and appreciate it if you would like think about it i would really love to own a home made first blood knife even the exact one here in this video like i said id pay you to do it and maybe send it buy mail or something anyway if that interests you please feel free to call me or at least right back or something.

  • @DolittleMccoy

    Great Job, I made the same knife from scratch not long ago.. Of course mine didn't turn out as accurate as yours... I took a blank of metal, marked and cut it with a grinder, etc... Instead of the tang i used a piece of threaded steel pipe and welded it solid. Then had a hard time making a removable cap for the end. So i used a female collar and then used a brass cap for the end... The brass cap worked well and kept the compass from being inacurate. But the brass butt cap def' changed the look and i was kind of disappointed with that..... I have to give you great credit, You did an amazing job cloning the first blood knife.. My knife is rather thick because i dont have a belt sander with great torque and speed.. Thats one heck of a belt sander that you have btw, lol..... Also if you don't mind me asking "Where the heck did you find drill bits that will actually cut and hold up to steel?" I've went through every brand under the sun and they just melt down under pressure...... Again,, Great Job..
