He's Pride. I think rather than wanting to kill Beel, he was just so frustrated that he was exploding. Remember he was already under a lot of stress from locking Belphegor up and lying to basically everyone about it. He wanted to keep all of his brothers safe but they kept doing this (this, as in inviting troubles left and right) and I think this is one of the last straws that made him explode. He did feel regret at the end and I'm sure he beat himself constantly over it behind closed doors. There's nothing more precious to Lucifer than his brothers and if he has to hurt them to keep them safe, alive, and by his side, he'd do it.
At first I simped for Lucy, then I didn't like his attitude so I started to not like him. But once I found out why he was doing what he was doing. Then I completely understood him, so I started liking the Character.
