Great request, Grandma's Got Grace. 😊 The minute I saw the video title, I just knew he was going to love this being Dan singing a Canadian song. Heck, we're not even Canadian and love it. Stay warm up there, Linda. Love from Texas.
@rebeccacurtis6680 -- The subject came up on Instagram, because I mentioned to him one day, that I had woken up whistling Northwest Passage! He penned back that he LOVED that song, so I told him about Dan's cover (and to be sure to watch the double outro). I also told him that I grew up in Valdez, Alaska, and we learned at SCHOOL, about the Northwest Passage, and about the tragedy involved. The song itself didn't come out until I was already out of school, but the first time I heard it, I fell in love with it (Stan Rogers' version, of course, back then). It is still just about as popular in Alaska, as it is in Canada. 😀 My brother still lives in Valdez (out in the country about 20 miles from New Valdez (Old Valdez was totally wrecked by the 1964 Earthquake, so we had to move everything over to where the town would no longer be on glacier moraine, and instead is based on pea gravel over bedrock, with good, solid ground above. Gary Minish (my brother) is a professional photographer, and you can find his pictures online by just checking out his name. He takes WONDERFUL photos of Alaska. I have traveled a lot after leaving Alaska in 1978, and lived in several different states. I've also traveled THROUGH the SE corner of Canada four times, but now I am back in South Dakota, where both of my parents were born (about 100 miles from where I live right now). I'm pretty much surrounded by relatives all over the state. We are just entering the cold season (really late this year, which probably bodes for a REALLY cold winter). Sometimes we get colder here than it gets in Valdez, since Valdez is bayside, and almost completely surrounded by high mountains. It gets cold, but it's one of the warmest cold places in Alaska. 😀We're prairie-bound, here, in the furthest NE corner of the state, with a few hills in the vicinity. When it snows, it snows hard, and when the temps go down, sometimes they are below-zero F (sometimes for weeks on end).
Great song and amazing tribute. So very sorry you lost another family member to cancer, Dan. My prayers are with your family. You make the metal experience. AMAZING! Pharaoh, thank you for covering another great Dan Vasc song! I am a new subscriber to your channel and I am enjoying it! I have visited Canada and it was wonderful!
Thank you for your reaction. When Dan sing it, it is outstanding, all his music. Keep warm, love from South Africa. We are having a very hot summer, but hey, it is my kind of weather. I was born in the desert.
Yes, he does. He & Gabriel did a lovely job on Loch Lomond. Might be the only time I've heard Gabriel sing. All of their Spyglass Inn acoustic projects are great. Still waiting for them to resume, but Dan did mention recently that Gabriel had moved out of town.
@@rebeccacurtis6680 -- Yes, that's true. I think that's why there haven't been any really new FEARLESS songs out, either (sigh). Thankfully Davi (Dan's brother) is still nearby, since then Dan was able to get him to come and get him very quickly (he said it was less than five minutes), when he badly injured his left hand several weeks back! He's OK, by the way, in case you hadn't heard about that. He made a REEL on Instagram about it.
Thanks so much for this reaction to Dan Vasc. I have watched this one many times and it has become a favorite. Loved your reaction and look forward to the next one.

Ok, my favorite Canadian and my beloved Dan together again!!! It seems like that's really enough to make my day completely. I can see that your reaction is completely sincere, because I can notice a total change in your mood as the song comes to an end. You didn't expect something like this at the beginning, admit it!
You are so right. I was a bit skeptical as this song is one of my favourite Canadian songs sung by Stan Rogers. Canadian Legend. By the end, Dan totally won me over and it’s an incredible cover that he made his own!
Thank you grandma's got grace for your fantastic suggestion. A wonderful cover and a beautiful homage to his uncle Carlos by Dan. His guitarist Victor The guitar nerd rocks it out as always. The interaction between the two couldn't be better. I remember from stories that relatives of mine emigrated from Germany to Canada in the 60s. By ship across the Atlantic to the east coast and then on to the west coast to Vancouver. Descendants from back then still live there today. Thank you for your further wonderful reaction to this epic cover and outo by Dan.
@carolaO-v2d -- I have relatives in Canada who emigrated there from Poland. My dad's parents didn't go through Canada, but landed at Ellis Island, and then they traveled westward until they hit the Dakotas. Some of them settled in North Dakota, and some in South Dakota. My mom's family came from the British Isles. There's a lot of Scotch-Irish in my field of relatives, many of them still over there, and many here. One of my relatives along the line of my mom's mom (whose maiden name was Eakins, has been proven to be Thomas Eakins. Also, Grandma's first family members to arrive over here, came on the Mayflower! My second (and forever) husband (David's) family came from those very same areas, and there still is a ruin of Wingfield Castle over there, which some of his family members have now reclaimed (the land, at least). Not only that, but another of my traced relatives was on my grandfather's side. Grandpa Elmer's last name was Smith. He was related to Captain John Smith's family. John Smith was the schemer who rousted David's direct blood relative Edward Maria (pronounced Ma-rye'-ah) Wingfield, from his seat as the first governing authority in Jamestown. Our distant families were LITERALLY feuding for a century or so, after all of that occurred. Isn't life strange sometimes?!
@@GrandmasGotGraceLWHello, very interesting... My father's family comes from Poland near Lodz. As a child in 1945 he fled to Germany with his mother, brother and sister in a horse trailer. 2 of his cousins later emigrated to Canada. One of them still lives in Vancouver today at the age of 90. @@carolaO-v2d Wishing you the same! My dad's family came from a farm somewhere near Warsaw. When WW2 began, he joined the U.S. Army and went overseas almost immediately. He was part of the motorized infantry and medical unit that was under General Patton's direct command. He came back to the States in 1945.
I'm so happy to see this!!! Sorry I didn't see it yesterday! My night owl hours get confusing sometimes. Then I kept telling myself, "He's gonna like it! He already knows how Dan "metalizes" songs, so...yeah...he's gonna love it!" Then you did! I'm sitting here grinning like crazy. You know that comment Dan made during the second part of his outro, about maybe a witch had cursed him, etc.? The thing is, he DID have a proclaimed witch stalking him some time ago, who told him if he didn't allow her to "join with him" she would put a terrible curse on him...with lots of threats about what she would make sure would happen to him. In the podcast in which I heard him speak of that, he didn't mention what those threats were, but he did say she seemed pretty vicious. Thankfully, Dan is a strong believer (you should check out his "For All" Roy Khan cover, which is fabulous, and has another great outro at the end), so he knew better than to be afraid of witchcraft. 😀 Thank you TONS for doing this reaction.
