You're already looking at it wrong. It's not about cutting to the main points. You need to hear out what he needs to say. It's all important, it's all connected.
You are a blessing, when I first started mixing in protools I was lost, and it took me 8 to 9 months for me to understand most of the stuff and Imm still learning, actually, I'm attending a institute for audio engineering just to be a master of what I do and as u said education is key! Thank you for your knowledge, you are one of a kind mate, very valuable information, God bless you bro.
You're right about so many things, plus you're so humble about it. Let's never forget to go back to the roots and our common love of music. Rock on, bro!
I've just returned from a week at MWTM with Greg Wells. It was the best week of my life. Greg was incredibly humble. Not only did I learn about the production & songwriting side of things, but his industry advice was incredibly insightful. As you mention, the relationship you build with the other attendees is also so cool - people all over the world with the same passion. The guys at MWTM are fantastic.
You helped me realize that it's not all about money and sometimes it's just about the time invested into your craft. Valuable lesson learned. Thank you.
Thanks for the honest advice. I always think of the great recordings that were made when gear was basic and the engineer relied mostly on his own ears. You speak a simple and universal truth.
I just like the fact that you mentioned that having the most recent gear isnt the secret to making a great mix. its the information and education you have about mixing that does! Thanks Sir!
All 3 are good points. We know 'The Song'. My studio partner definitely sharpens and challenges my skills and talents. And one thing he pushes on me is watching, reading and listening to recording, mixing tutorials. Thanks Graham
I didn't even come for mixing tips but I absolutely loved your message on educating yourself and finding/building a community. Thanks for the inspiration!
The thing with the community is really good, I've finished my first year in music college and can already see how much i've progressed from just being with other like minded people
Thanks Graham for all your time spent on teaching for free!... I'm from Argentina, and I don't usually mix recordings but I do live sound mixing and I have used a lot of your tricks to improove my work!... Totally agree with you, every good engineer should never stop learning!
Greetings from Brazil! Thank you so very much for those great advices. It will certainly add a lot to my mixes. As we say in Brazil: "Obrigado", meaning thank you! GOD bless everyone!!!
Lesson number 2, is something that I already know but something that I always forget, I cant believe that I've forgotten it again! thanks for the video dude It really helped me
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your personal experiences! Hope God bless you, because you're doing such a huge difference on this world. Thank you so much! Cheers from Brazil
Thanks Graham, I'm grateful I met you. I seriously have to wake up and become a better mixer. This has been a great great lesson of all time. INVEST IN EDUCATION. God richly bless you
Yes yes! I been looking for the longest a video where somebody could explain the real reason why mixes don't turn out so good all the time. I've tried hundreds of thing's to better my mix's and couldn't find them because you're right... it's not there in the DAW with the many many EQ's/Compression etc. It's simply the recording quality and how it's recorded. I kind of thought so but wasn't sure until one day I put a professional song in one of my sessions and tried to mess it up. found out I couldn't... no matter what plug-in I put on it. So thanks very much for sharing your "Mix with the master's" video. You have been a great help. #Guitarist #Gtraillot
Very inspiring Message! kudos to you!! Very important when you isolated from your everyday routine and going to a place like that. You are getting to the next level just by going into such places!
I just got accepted to attend in April and I just wanted to thank you very much for this video. I was having doubts due to the money and wasn't sure if this was what I wanted to do and this video helped me so much. Thank you!!!!
I see people hating on the content of your videos sometimes, when they are not a mixing tutorial but this kind of philosophical stuff. But things you say in this video are something what we might already know but really need a remainder to... remind ourselves of! The message is very true! I'm aware of all the hours (days) I've spent on checking prices for second-hand gear which I can afford to buy it and have more possibilites, while still using the SAME stuff for all of my work. And the message for me is that all that time I should've spent fiddling around with my demos I've spent on more comforting bullshit, feeding my GAS syndrome. I love your stuff, Graham!
Thanks Greg. Good video. I am a vocalist and have always felt the songs I sing are important. In fact, a great song will speak to a vocalist and pull her in to sing the song. Thank you for confirming this. Also for telling me about Mix With the Masters. I have now subscribed to their website. keep up the good work with yours!
hey bro, I just want to thank you for all your hard work and mental input you invest into informing and educating you subscribers. Youve really helped me a lot and im glad theres generous brothers out there like yourself. God bless
Hey Graham. I was there last year in June, attending Andrew Scheps seminar. I had absolutely same experience. This seminar is awesome. For me it was a good experience, because all this famous guys are humans too, like we are. But when you see this people, how passionate they are, and how much time they spent practicing their craft, from playing an instrument, which gives you a musical knowledge and further to understanding your software in the most tiny detail. Furthermore understanding the emotional impact you can create with your tools. And I was also surprised how good they are, when it comes to communicating with other people, specially at the recording session. They know everything! When I was going home I knew that there is potential in all of us, we just need to work and push harder! I am a professional musician/producer and my progress till now was the same, that you teach other people. Keep up the good work, because this is the right way to get the message across!
Really insightful. The point about community is one I know I seriously need to embrace coz I have been a hermit these last few months. Thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos Graham
It's comforting to know that even Graham can be tempted with the "gear is the answer" mindset. I've started to break free from that, and I know my mixes have improved significantly as a result. At the same time, I'm glad he brought balance by saying, "I'm not against you having gear..."
Thanks Graham! Basically everything helped me in this video, I like to keep learning too, and yes, is not about the gear is about the ear! Greetings from Lima, Perú.
Hey,thanks for always reminding us that gear is not as important as we think it is. That really helped me get the maximum out of my stock stuff and even some free plugs.
what i learn is that is all about the song sometime we can controll that so is good to work with great people. really apreciate all your advices thanks from venezuela
thnx Graham you indeed have helped me alot not just by this video but by many other of your videos. U made it very clear about some very necessary and important things that matter above all others :) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
The part that inspired me the most with this video is when you spoke about investing in education. Your so right about that because I know of people that have gear 10x better than mines yet there mixes sound like trash. like you said, good gear means nothing unless you educate your mind and I've watched a lot of videos, but I've also read a lot of books on mixing. thanks for videos, keep em coming.
Man! I went to Mix With the Masters 2 month ago with Joe Chiccarelli. It was awsome! Wasn't prepared either to get so much from the other guys. They are now friends or coworkers. I came back home so inspired, with so much new music to listen to and techniques to try, and people to meet...even talking about the artists there, people discovered my stuff and liked it, I fell in love with one of the guys project...
U are one of the most inspirational persons out there....I hope u have a long and full career in what u love to do ....watching u opens my mind in some many ways...I hope I get to have some kind of impact myself in my field...and u just gave me the perfect idea for that....
I loved what you said that you should invest in your education! To always learn and that is not about the equipment so much as it is in you learning more about the equipment and the ways that will improve your use of said gear! Great advice!! Thanks!
Love this, I've been through some hard times lately and audio mixing/engineering/producing/playing is my passion. I've lost my passion and thats a big concern. I'm a cop full time but have been playing music my entire life and a couple years ago built my studio back. My goal is to provide free studio time to talent that could not normally afford it. Working in the studio is what I need and is my release. I've spent a lot of money on gear so I can provide quality at no cost. I pay my bills as a cop. Well I've been through some hard times lately and I can't seem to sit in the studio for more than a few minutes before I loose all interest and just go to bed. This is not me and is a concern because it has always been my outlet. I know I probably won't get a responce but I just need to vent and am a bit worried.
I especially liked the part about the vision in one's head and trying to convey that to the mix, since that is how I go about my stuff intuitively. I know some basics but I feel there's a whole lot of information I just need to take in to make a bit more sense of the mixing thing in the whole. And that is where the hours and hours of information on your channel come in extremely handy. Thank you for that, Graham! Greetings from Germany.
This is fantastically inspiring, and audio production is only tangentially related to what I do! I think these are across-the-board inspiring thoughts for creative people. :)
I think having a community its the most important thing not just for engineers/producers but also starting musicians in my case been a DJ and electronic music producer. If you are having a bad day or you screw up in a certain project, if you have a strong community with positive as well as mature people, they will pretty much be your best friends in those cases.
Thank you for the video, one of the most valuable things I ever learned getting my degree in sound was capturing the performance...the gear is secondary to making the artist feel comfortable and having a good song. You touched on that awesome 👍
It takes a good song and good musicians. So true. Many times Ive tried to force in a new "interesting" element or mix technique to somehow make the "mix" better, but all along it was the lack of quality in the material that I was mixing.

You are the real MVP.
Praise the chosen one
Thanks. This guy talks way too much.
You're already looking at it wrong. It's not about cutting to the main points. You need to hear out what he needs to say. It's all important, it's all connected.
Thanks for being there for us !
Brother Graham , you have been such a blessing ! I am praying for you that God can continue to use you ! Thank you for all that you do !
THANK YOU FOR DROPPING ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE ! ! ! !
You've helped me understand what I do best and to continue to get involved and submerged in that!
Graham, you always have the best advice. You are a fantastic teacher. No idea why anyone would ever dislike your videos!
You're right about so many things, plus you're so humble about it. Let's never forget to go back to the roots and our common love of music. Rock on, bro!

Really awesome video! Lots of room for thought, thanks!
Thanks for the honest advice. I always think of the great recordings that were made when gear was basic and the engineer relied mostly on his own ears. You speak a simple and universal truth.
You the man Graham. As always thank you for the insight and inspiration. Be well!
I just like the fact that you mentioned that having the most recent gear isnt the secret to making a great mix. its the information and education you have about mixing that does! Thanks Sir!
Serendipitous. Thanks Graham!
All 3 are good points. We know 'The Song'. My studio partner definitely sharpens and challenges my skills and talents. And one thing he pushes on me is watching, reading and listening to recording, mixing tutorials. Thanks Graham
Been watching your videos for probably over a year and this was definitely one of the best ones. Great stuff as always, Graham.
Graham, you're a guy with a heart of gold, you got a passion for what you do. You're an inspiration dude.
Excellent. Some real common sense to help refocus on what's important. Thank you!
Love your mantra, bro. Thanks for always putting yourself out there for the benefit & wealth of your fellow engineers!
thanks, Graham for reminding us, that it's about a song and knowing what you're doing during mixing.
absolutely agree with everything you said!
thanks Graham. 3 valuable tips that certainly will help me a lot.
Your videos are always inspiring and help a lot. Thanks for teaching us!
I think, I need a community the most.
Thank you!
Man, I've gotta thank you for your efforts. I watch a lot of your videos and I feel like you really want to help.
Tx for sharing. I'm a musician and though that I would never try again to record my own music. Now I'm inspired to try once more. Love U, man.
I didn't even come for mixing tips but I absolutely loved your message on educating yourself and finding/building a community. Thanks for the inspiration!
The thing with the community is really good, I've finished my first year in music college and can already see how much i've progressed from just being with other like minded people

Yet another good video. I wish you had shown more photos of that studio though.
Proud that Jordan Barone also attended Mixing with the Masters, August, 2015 in France. Great program.
Grant, you're awesome dude. keep up the good work. You're a blessing.
Lesson number 2, is something that I already know but something that I always forget, I cant believe that I've forgotten it again!

Awesome!!!
Graham, you're the man.
