Medreddyd Very badly treated Colin was told in a phone call he wasn't coming back. In.A.Phone.Call.No wonder he didn't want to do his regeneration into Sylvesters Doctor.

Why are people only using their comments to debate how good a doctor he was? Of course he was brilliant! The comment sections should really be for praising these superbly well made tributes
Everyone gives Six a bad rap, but... watching the first season you see an actor who is just HAPPY to get the chance to play the Doctor, and that shines through even though the producers did their best to get the show cancelled (no joke they wanted to end it because they were tired). He showed up in character at a rally to save the show. And then you get to Trial of a Time Lord, and that happiness is lost because it’s not fun the way they’re writing it anymore. As a result I always tend to think of Six as the one who was angry at the universe and gave it the cold shoulder (exactly like Nine) with sharp remarks and sassy quips to cover up how much he’d been hurt (especially after what his previous incarnation had gone through, being sweet and bright and getting only the worst back).
I don't know who gave you the idea that 'the producers did their best to get the show cancelled' (and btw there was only one producer, JNT), but it couldn't be further from the truth. I can't actually believe someone has given you the impression 'no joke they wanted to end it because they were tired' - this is not only ridiculously belittling to the production team but also I'm assuming was a lie espoused by a (hopefully very small minority of) deeply paranoid and delusional fans. Doctor Who history really has been passed down like a half-century long game of Chinese whispers - so often the drivel people spout on RUclips hasn't even got a tenuous connection to anything about the show on or off screen. Giving the universe 'the cold shoulder'. What does this have to do with either the sixth or ninth doctors, who are both as heroic and full of wonder as the doctor has ever been.
I really got into the new series, and when I ran out of episodes of that to watch I decided to pass the time waiting for the next season by watching the classic series. And I fell in love with the Doctor as a whole, not just Nine, Ten or Eleven. I don't have a single favorite Doctor, but I do have a soft spot for both the Baker boys. And Colin actually inspired me to overcome some bitterness in my own life. The man is amazing!
It’s all Michael Grade’s fault, he had a point that the show might have become abit violent at the time BUT when havent the show gone that way? @@ryudameron4179 it may be Michael Grade’s fault, in a way with it being violent, it made this version of the doctor extremely dark and arrogant at times, like going back to dark times with the 1st doctor and fits really well, but it was also its downfall on the kids or people that where watching and weren't up with some extreme Violence, even though doctor who is aimed for anyone and not just children , but back then it was meant to be for children and with the 5th and 6th doctor changing the ideal of having darker side to story's and the characters, and looking back on the 6th doctor and the Violence its not that bad compare to other shows and what people said , and not disagreeing or agree just pointing the double standards here , Michael Grade wanted something different and people blame him or otherwise and it seems another great director is getting so much hate for making something new or with different approach to the story and feeling of doctor who , with the 13/14 female doctor ,
I actually really liked Colin. He was very much in the vicinity of the Doctor's M.O. i.e. peculiar and eccentric. And that makes for interesting episodes. In the modern version, eccentricity is very relative and calculated which makes it very bland. ***Insert typical old man rant*** I liked the two Bakers. Tom was and is an unmitigated legend and Colin more than held his own but had big shoes to fill. :D
I adore the Sixth Doctor and he is now my favourite Doctor, and certainly the one who's stories I revisit the most. Originally a Fifth Doctor fan, I started watching aged 5 with season 19...I'm now Colin's devotee. Meeting Peter Davison and finding him very rude, disinterested and dismissive of fans didnt help, Colin is the polar opposite. Aside from that, I realised that the Fifth Doctors tenure contained many duds (Terminus, Time Flight, Arc Of Infinity, Snakedance, Earthshock, Four to Doomsday....) whereas the Sixth Doctors era contained no stories that bored me to tears like the aforementioned. Even The Twin Dilemma and Timelash are redeemed and markedly watchable due to Colins performance and the latter story also because of Paul Darrow. The Sixth Doctor was hilariously funny, increased my vocabulary and has been disgracefully overlooked and disregarded by fans.
I agree with everything you said. Your comment is such a breath of fresh air. However I think, for our own sanity, we really ought to not dwell on it too much, as the received wisdom of DW fandom is confusing at best and moronic at worst. Yes, most of the fifth doctor era is crushingly dull and poorly-made, so perhaps its appropriate that the lead actor's heart wasn't in it. Aside from Hartnell and Pertwee, who had very brief hesitations about playing the doctor, Davison is the only actor who still to this day implies that he was wrong for it. Colin on the other hand embraced it from the very beginning - he is very entertaining both on and off the show, and always will be. The likes of the Twin Dilemma have always been singled out for ridicule presumably because it's fun to hate. I mean, imagine if something like (*shudders*) Arc of Infinity was regarded as the worst of the original series (and it probably should be) - just think of how boring it would be for fans to write babbling dissertations on! No. It had to be something brazen and (supposedly) catastrophically bad. That's the only way that I could account for the absurd amount of venom directed at a lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek story like the Twin Dilemma. But the most interesting way to look it is this - which is the era that the fandom is always talking about? Who is the doctor that gets all the attention? What are the stories being perpetually discussed online even when the content has nothing to do with them at all? Well I think you know the answers...
