Kerstboodschap 2020

How's the mood? Well not too good. I hear many people feel we should forget this year as soon as possible.
I suggest we do not. I propose we never forget what it was like without the pub. Without hugging. How it felt without live music. Without theatre. How it was when those people were still alive. What happened when we didn't care for others. What we did to others. And how that atmosphere became, when we no longer trusted one another. When we came to believe that lies might be true. That nothing really matters. Ourselves least of all.
I propose that we store that in our memory, solidly. And I suggest we never do it that way again. That we finally realize we need each other. That we realize that if we find the other person irritating, chances are the feeling's mutual. That they are not them, but us. That if we don't take good care of what's around us, it will threaten us all. That that outside threat is always greater than the one we pose to each other should be. That the latter is not worth the fight, but that together, we áre worth a lot.
Alone, we're not worth a sniff. But together? Together we are humanity. I have yet to meet the alien who isn't humbled by that.
I wish you a much better year ahead than this one was. But first: a Merry Christmas.
