  • Retevis sent me these to review, and I was really impressed! For the size, these are very capable radios. Best part is, that even though they are FRS with 22 memories, they actually can operate as GMRS 99 memory radios (as long as you are licensed) including repeaters!
Check out the video for details!

I own the RB27V and that is a great radio, so I have no doubt the FRS is good too.
I have to try the channel trick with the CPS to see if I can add more channels, and try UHF (because the 27V has a removable antenna, so I can put in a dual band antenna to test). Will try this tonight and post any results here.
EDIT: I had a chance to do it. I pulled a read as the straight up RB27 and I was able to input a 70cm, 2M and my mutual aid 500MHz repeater.
It DID say that duplex MUST be set OFF, so definitely no TX on those channels.
I was able to program my local GMRS repeater and I was able to set Offset
After writing the filel I slapped on a dual band antenna and sure enough 146,440 and 500MHz all received just fine!
There IS a caveat to this. When I got into the FRS only channels I could ONLY program FRS channels in those slots (channels 8-14) and when I programmed GMRS 16 to channel 16 it would not allow offset.
But when I programmed it to channel 50 I was able to program the offset to hit the Repeater.
So Thanks for the tip! Now I have MURS and GMRS channels on my RB27V and can RX/TX both! (as well as monitor ham, dot and public safety)

The cool radio I'd pick some up if I did it already have a good selection of gmrs radios (I know this is FRS but my entire family is already GNRS licensed due to being my immediate family)
