Hey, that's me in the thumbnail! ;-) I'm glad you liked my outfit so much. I absolutely see what you mean with the colour of the neck tie, red is absulutely overused in menswear and especially red and burgundy ties are nearly too common.
If you're in Aachen again, we should have a drink together in the Grotesque Absinth Bar! :-)

I hope you do a third video some day these are enjoyable! I was too shy to participate with a submission but after seeing these outfits, I feel confident in what I have in my wardrobe that’s beyond just a dark three piece suit, and would totally be up to have you be the judge of that, ha ha.

For 8:11, I'd recommend an either patterned tie or a vintage tie with some sort of abstract design and perhaps a slightly longer collar.

could you please talk about the ins and outs of high rise pants and pleats? Between various high waists, single and double pleats, forward and reverse ones etc. it's easy to get lost. It's obvious high rise makes your legs look longer and the proportions in thirds are pleasing to the eye, but high waist pants also seem to look better on some men than others, they seem to favour taller, slimmer physiques, or it might be that the variations of pleats are affecting the looks. Pretty please, with sugar on top, demystify traditional pants for us.

1:47 Great look, stick to it!
3:52 I think this one looks a bit too dark and baggy in my opinion.
6:35 Althought it's not, the jacket looks rather baggy due to those ridiculously narrow lapels.
9:37 I like the colors, but the hat is too dark and the necktie is too flashy for me (and the knot is too bulky).
15:14 Wow... The tie is awfully designed, much too short although the knot is too small. The shirt color is great though.
18:59 Nice outfit! Since he's just 19 you might think it's a costume, but he's wearing it with confidence!

Amazing I am not the only metal fan who dresses in classic menswear! Where can I send my photos to you (u can publish them on ur blog/youtube like u do above; if u want) for I don't have instagram; just facebook? I everyday dress like English dandies from 1896. Since I am vegan all the items are second-hand boughts (because many are made up of leather, fur, etc); nobody wears old stuff so it would have ended up being thrown anyways. Many of my items are actually originals from 1880-1930. Nothing is less than at least 10 years old. All my undergarments are either imitations or originals (my oldest under-trousers are stamped 1914; WW1 issue). I have taken a few photographs of those latter but not of my person wearing them alone. Since that would be most improper. Wealthy Western man of fashion back then had an outfit for each (broadly speaking though) occasion and the different seasons ans all in full black for when in mourning. I have been studying men's fashion of that era by internet since I was 11. So I know what I am doing and it is accurate. I actually try to copy the original fashion illustrations/photograps and try to get as much original (or 1930 max) as possible. Unfortunately that is not possible regarding the footwear cause I am 5 feet nine which is short for today but equivalent to aprox 6.3 for c1900 and so near all footgear from that era are way too small for my 9.5 shoe size but Derbies and oxfords have existed since the 1840s and fully leather modern shoes are made in a manner which is virtually the same since the 1870s (even rubber soles have existed since at least 1835).
Since I have very little facial-hair though; though I have not been shaved since May 2013; I finally managed to have sort of a beard to look like the era (actually a myriad of hair and facial-hair like I sport was fashionable from c1840 to C1880 and not in 1896; though old-fashioned chaps would still do it by then and I think one looks much handsomer with it.

A couple of these were nice, but most were giving off neck beard cosplay vibes. I love hearing an expert educate all the people playing "dress-up". There's a huge difference between a costume and an outfit, and this gentleman clearly knows the dividing line.

I know I have one question why do all these guys that just starting in menswear they wear a tie bar with a waistcoat it just doesn't make any sense isn't your waistcoat holding your tie I don't get it it kind of defeats the purpose of a waistcoat if you go where a tie bar just wear the Thai bar if you're going to wait coach like it's kind of like how you're wearing belts and suspenders together that makes no it's going to make no sense and it doesn't doesn't really make any sense really like why why is it that when when people start freaking men's wear and they wear waistcoats they wear a tie bar with it yeah I understand your tie kind of stuff yeah I know it tends to pop out but that's just part of wearing a waistcoat your tie is going to pop out you can't avoid so it's all this on the show Gotham oswa wore a waistcoat with a with a tie bar and all truth that's a show and for the most part it's just a costume okay like I don't understand this why do people wear a tie bar with a waistcoat it doesn't make any sense to me the pizza purpose if you're going to wear a vest wear a vest if you're going to wear a tie bar wear a tie bar it's kind of like how some people may wear like a collar pin and then they like wear like a tie tack at the same time frankly it just doesn't really look good so yeah bye

In my personal opinion you are way too nice. Most of these outfits look absolutely clownish. Maybe its just my opinion and I get that you dont want to insult them, but how should they evolve? To have a good style you need to be complete honest to yourself. Am I a big guy? Am I very skinny? Do I look very young? So im not sure if this way of doing it is real produktive but maybe im wrong.

    • @jaaksootak318
      @jaaksootak318 4 года назад +8

To an extent vintage clothing is always going to look "clownish" or at least stand out, because it's just not something we are used to seeing daily and I think those men know that and don't mind that.
Obviously dressing for one's body type is important and I think that both the efforts of the men in the video and Niklas' advice were decent. I mean, we're all limited by our financial means, location and physique.
As for harsh/nice advice, of course one could say "You look like a fool, your clothes don't fit, get back into 2020!" but in the end this is about people who are doing something they enjoy without harming anyone and harsh criticism is not going to do anybody any good.
These are just my thoughts, and in my opinion this video, (like others on this channel) were excellent!
