No big difference in the sound audio quality when playing music somehow does not justify why we should upgrade from the XM3 to the XM4. If better noise cancellation and wind noise reduction together with wireless and better battery life is all we are looking for, then yes. I was just hoping for an improved music sound quality with better bass. Nice honest review.
My wf-xm3 are still performing perfectly every day after 9 months use so I don't have a compelling reason to upgrade. I've only recently begun to appreciate their music sound quality. I've been comparing them to wired IEMs used with a bluetooth DAC/amp and streaming music over LDAC from my Sony phone and with some music the wf-xm3 sound better. I think I have underappreciated them.
The microphone sounded worse on the XM4's, wow. The XM3's was horrible and completely unusable for phone calls for me if I wasn't sitting in a completely quiet room, but I think that was mostly due to the horrible background noise reduction. So yeah I hope a software update fixes that.

Probably the beter fit improves wind noise reduction - I changed the XM3 eartips for INAIRS foam ear buds and got some improvement in wind noise reduction and especially fit
The volume levels feel a little bit off in the video. The ding for the bell was extremely loud, and certain parts of you speaking are really quiet. As always, thanks for the objective comparison! Just leaving this so you would know
I really hope Sony continue to advance the active sound cancelling capabilities. I live with sound sensitivity and they have increased my quality of life
hey let me save you some money: bluetooth can't play lossless, therefor you won't get the desired results if you use the xm4,s with tidal. at least if you have master. tidal master is lossless xm4,s are bluetooth bluetooth can't lossless tidal and xm4,s don't work together as they should it's really disappointing, i know, but bluetooth 5 just isn't that good. that's why most of the high class speakers clink into your router and wifi. because via wifi they can play lossless, but not via bluetooth.
@@neon6341 they have LDAC hi res now, but he can only listen tidal lossy through a Samsung device with LDAC. AAC from iPhone is also a kind of lossy Bluetooth format too.
I actually much prefer the Soundstage of the xm3's over the xm4's. I ended up purchasing the xm4's to upgrade from my xm3's, however I feel that even after tweaking the eq, the bass really overpowered the mid and high ends on the xm4's. Ended up returning them
@@fairplay3430 it honestly just depends as there are some features on the xm4's that the xm3's don't have such as wireless charging, smaller form factor, or an official ip rating, and decently better battery life. If any of those are important to you, go with the xm4's. But for the price difference, the xm3's are a pretty killer deal right now
@@fairplay3430 the main difference about the Soundstage is that the xm4's do have a bit more bass. That's all that I could notice. Also, the xm4's are definitely more comfortable, and do not fall out nearly as much as the xm3's when exercising, or running and whatnot
I got them today and love them. I have big ears so they don't look ridiculous on me. I just wish Sony would let you have custom controls. They give you different configurations but you can't choose what you want and don't want. The noise canceling is very good. Better than many earbuds I have tried but haven't tried the bose so I can't compare with those.
The older XM3 also have a wind noise reduction option. It also exists in both of the over ear versions. It was already excellent in the XM3 headphones and earbuds so I expect that it would at least be better with the newest XM4 earbuds.
I thought the wind noise reduction was to deal with the effect of wind on the microphones, not the sound of wind as an ambient noise. That was a common complaint with the wf-xm3. Have I misunderstood what this new feature is for? I expected to see a test with a fan blowing on them.
Apparently the WNR feature is to deal with the flagging sound when wind is blowing against the earbuds. In the test, i had a fan blowing at the XM4s from right to left. At first i thought it’s for the microphones too

I think Sony has improved their software since the XM3 launch. The Call Quality was the only major flaw it had and it seems its on par with the XM4 after 2 years of software updates.

I’ve had xm3 for 3 years and it is still working flawlessly. The only downside of xm3 being the wind noise when i call someone outside. I’m disappointed with the wind noise because i paid more than $200 and i think Sony could have done better. Other than that, xm3 is awesome. I hope they fix the wind noise on the xm4.

I've had the xm4's for a little over a week now. I can't help but feel that the music intensity (when listening to rock) isn't as prominent, compared to the previous xm3 model. Seems like the xm4s are trying to balance the music. But instead, they suppress certain parts of the music when it gets too loud (or intensity). Some instruments sound muffled as a result.
I've been using WF1000XM3 and WH1000XM3 since they released. WF-M3 lasts only about 4 hours with NC on and about 50 to 60% volume, whereas battery of WH-X3 lasts for weeks. Is WF-X4 worth the upgrade?

Yeh I agree I got a display pair for 80 bucks and got the gaurantee with it too as he never registered them and gave me a vat receipt. Lovely buds. Sony make all their own parts and i Iike what they produce. Many other buds use the same drivers as many others that's why so many sound similar.
I've been a happy user of WF-1000XM3s for about.. 1.5 years now. Very satisfied. They sound really good, it's unbelievable. I also use custom tips for better passive isolation. But I do agree - ANC is starting to show its age.
Great review. I'm curious to find out about the fit. How far does the bud fit into the ear canal ? I have issues with having earbuds too far into the ear canal. It looks like the m4s don't go far in to the canal compared to the m3. Would like to see a comparison between the WF-1000xm4 and the Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds. I'm looking for good quality earbuds for commuting. My daily headphones are the Dali IO6 but don't want to over use them.

i used to get horrible ear fatigue from the xm3's but after having them for 6 months and having them in for 8+ hours a day i feel no pain. i think u just have to endure it for a while and then ur ears adapt to go longer and longer

Hum 🤔 I think the Xm3 with the same tips will do almost as well. Not really any great improvements except the design, and I don't think it's worth $100 difference. In my opinion, the mountain 🗻 to give birth to a mouse🐁. In 2021 high-end earbuds without gaming mode or APTX ADAPTIVE, with average pickups voice and especially without multi-points are not worth 250 - 300$. At this price everything must be almost perfect which in my opinion is not the case here. Just my opinion 🙏🏽.

These have officially replaced my Google pixel buds for daily earphones. Noise cancelling is phenomenal and even saying hey Google works for assistant. They literally made everything about these better than the xm3s. I did like the high frequency range better on the xm3s but the trade off is worth it considering all the improvements.

How durable do you think the new foam eartips are? I like using my Bose QCs at the gym for long workouts and the wing tips are nice for dealing with sweaty ears. I've also heard foam tips don't hold up well long term in general.

The XM3s do have a wind noise reduction if you go one click right on the noise cancelling slider. Works amazingly to me.

The call quality in the XM3's sounded much better and clearer than the XM4's. Sony took a step backwards.

The best type of noise canceling headset are the AirPods Pro and the Wh1000XM4. When I use them together, you can't hear a thing.

Glad Sony listened to people and reduced the size of their ear buds but the mic quality is terrible for the money Sony is asking...great review as always my man

Not really any great improvements except the design, and I don't think it's worth $100 difference.
In my opinion, the mountain 🗻 to give birth to a mouse🐁.
In 2021 high-end earbuds without gaming mode or APTX ADAPTIVE, with average pickups voice and especially without multi-points are not worth 250 - 300$.
At this price everything must be almost perfect which in my opinion is not the case here.
Just my opinion 🙏🏽.

Why not both? I love my wh-1000xm4s, I need the earbud xm4s when they release in Canada next week.

These have officially replaced my Google pixel buds for daily earphones. Noise cancelling is phenomenal and even saying hey Google works for assistant. They literally made everything about these better than the xm3s. I did like the high frequency range better on the xm3s but the trade off is worth it considering all the improvements.

How durable do you think the new foam eartips are? I like using my Bose QCs at the gym for long workouts and the wing tips are nice for dealing with sweaty ears. I've also heard foam tips don't hold up well long term in general.
Sony says it’s polyurethane, should be more durable than regular foam? It’s still too early to say…
They suck the foam tips they fit wacky and feel bad. If they are the same as the iso tunes

Is there any reviewer who can let us have a listen to some sound? I remember "Jim's Review Room" which is closed now used to do it. The sound signature that was captured was awesome as if from the earphones directly.

Im watching this with my xm3s while waiting for my xm4 order to deliver xD
my xm3 last like 4 hours now the battery in wireless earbuds are awful when used everyday
4 hrs means recharging twice a day atleast!
The XM3 wouldn't stay in my ears or cancel any sound. I think because the bulbus part. But these look like the right size for me.
