I bought my xm3 a year ago and use it every day. It has functioned perfectly, no glitches. ANC is good for the type. I love how it sounds, it is perfect for my music and prefer it to some of my IEMs. Mine play for 9hrs with ANC off. It works with spinfit 360 and Final E tips. Great product. I use the XM3’s every day and I noticed something regarding the dropouts. I have 2 different jobs, when I work in a place where there aren’t many people ( I mean mobile phones) the connection is absolutely superb. I never get disconnections. My other job is sports and events photographer. When I use the XM3 in those conditions I get a lot of dropouts. So for me it was very obvious that mobile interference causes these dropouts. Also I agree with you, I chose the XM3’s over the Airpods Pro too. Had both for a while and I sent the Airpods back and kept the Sony’s because I felt they had better bass and treble extension
You really have to stress the LDAC here. I think it is the first and only LDAC TWS and with the appropriate source material you can clearly hear the 3-Times higher transfer rate. More precise sound from the bass to the highs, even more sound stage, almost like at a live concert. 2-3 years ago I would not have thought that such a sound would ever be possible for TWS. LDAC is once again not available for Apple Users, but otherwise in the majority of Android phones, LDAC is on board. In my opinion, this is THE unique selling point of this TWS in terms of sound. Listen to it and be amazed. They have even replaced my beloved Sennheiser MTW2.
honestly I think the killer features of tws over regular iems are actually passthrough/ambience and just the wireless part, I almost feel anc is worthless on those, you can get near perfect passive isolation with iems the problem is taking them out everytime you wanna hear something...
@@KenDupont ooh didn't know that was a thing, cool... Still with tws it's binaural so you can tell stuff like where cars around you are coming from and etc. But yeh for like talking to flight attendants and stuff it's probably good enough on those

As a professional record producer it always baffles me why someone would need a graphic equaliser. I spend weeks, sometimes months mixing and mastering a record using EQ's that cost thousands of pounds only for someone to then fuck up all the work I've done with a cheap digital 5 band EQ, it doesn't make any sense. Do these people realise that when you alter one dynamic range with an EQ that is so tightly compressed together that you don't just change one frequency, you change them all? Leave it alone, we've done all that so you don't have to!
Damn with it being LDAC and the FR the XM4 looks seriously good we'll see how the galaxy buds pro do against it cause these don't seem bad. The buds are still extremely comfortable
Interestingly enough android by default chooses the adaptive quality value for LDAC and does not remember the setting until you cycle sample rate before and after changing LDAC to best 990 kbps quality. The difference is quite noticeable. What do you you think about apps like Wavelet (free) which optimises EQ settings to bring it closer inline to Harman target? It makes big difference on xm3 and stops them sound like you having bucket over your head. Personally I dislike xm3 design as it’s uncomfortable and keeps falling out of my ears. Looks like xm4 will do the same. Connection seems fine with my phones.
Hey Resolve! If you're looking for tips on someone to interview, you should check out Kush After Hours. He's a sound engineer that's able to speak to a general audience about his field. It would be interesting to get his take on your thoughts about frequency response the Harman target, etc from an studio engineer. I think it would be a good conversation!
The XM3 came out 2 years ago and is now $170 on amazon. Given this new price point, are they competitive with the $150 earbuds such as the Neobuds Pro, Oneplus Pro, Xiaomi flipbuds pro, Huawei Pro, 1Comfo pro? Is it worth going with a 2 years-old model (XM3) or what do you recommend?

Thank you for this video. I have tried out the xm4 but the shape of the simply doesn't agree with my ears. I am contemplating purchasing the sony xperia 1III that will come with the xm3
I bought the XM3s a few days ago.. sound quality is unmatched for sure but every now and then there's a slight pause in music and I have no idea what's causing it. I have the XM4 headphones and that doesn't happen. I think I'm going to return the WF XM3s and get the XM4s.
If you had to compare this with a wired iem to which iem would this be comparable? From a pure sound evaluation can this be compared to wired iems in the same price range?
Funny but after listening to Jabra 75T for a year and a half, I prefer that sound to XM4. It gives it a nice colorful sound, where XM4, is more linear. Also the volume on XM4 doesn’t get as loud as Jabra.
I unfortunately agree with the discomfort of the XM4. Even if I change tips, they hardly stay in my ear and require too much attention. I was not a fan of the xm3 either. The Jabra 85t is my favorite for fit.
@@hal9xxx321 I tried the sedna crystal and short. But ended up losing a lot of noise cancelling. Also, when chewing or speaking I quickly lose them. I will check for your suggestion, thanks !
Nice video! Personally, I think $250-300 is the probably (reasonably) the most anyone should pay for a pair of TWS. Features aside, I find it hard to justify pay more than $300 for the sound quality. For example, the Falcon Pro from Noble is well over $300 but offer nothing special in features. If sound is priority, I might as well go for a good sound pair of $300 IEMs with a bluetooth adaptor like the BTR5, especially when the TWS are lack of features.
Yep, that's nearly Moondrop B2 Dusk money. No way I'm gonna spend that much for a tws, cheap ones like edifier tws1 Pro or the OG galaxy buds are sufficient enough for mobile and physical activity use. Let the rest of the budget goes to a good pair of wired iem + portable dac for the moment I where I'd be stationary like sitting at the coffee shop.
The XM4s may be better in most ways but the XM3s are the most repairable wireless earbuds ever made, replacing the battery every 2-3 years is a 10 minute job. The XM4 batteries are glued in and the whole set will go in the bin before long.
Did you measure them with the stock tips? And at what volume did you measure them at? At higher volumes there is some DSP going on that reduces the treble.
I have both. I also have the over the ears xm4. The reason I decided to get the xm4 earbuds, well there were a few. First, the batteries on my xm3 earbuds only last around 2 or 3 hours. This happens to all of my earbuds, eventually the battery life just gives up. Secondly, I like smaller case for the xm4s. And they fit in my ears better. For the xm3s I bought 2 different kind of "holders" to keep them from falling out of the ears. I almost lost an xm3 once as it popped out and flew away. I agree slightly with this idea that the xm4s can be difficult to fit. What worked for me... you have to twist them around and then push on the little metal knub. Then it works.
I find them to be very comfortable for myself! You need to see what fits best for you. They need some in and out play for them to sit better! Sound quality is amazing!
I really want to try the XM4 but I know they just wont stay in my ears, way too bulky. Also IMO, ANC with ambient modes on TWS is totally worth it, not everyone wants or likes the super isolation that regular IEMs can provide.
I thought that too. In fact, I purchased the XM3s first, just before the XM4s were released (like within weeks). They would not stay in my ears. Primarily because they seemed designed to stick out more. That off balanced weight didn't help. Because I got them through Amazon, I was able to return them and order the XM4s (which had come out since I received the XM3s). At first I had the same concern. But with the *correct* ear tips, they actual fit me *extremely well.* And though I have relatively small ears, they _just_ fit.¹ They only stuck out _when I had the wrong tips._ Once I used tips that fit my ear canal, *_BAM!_* a perfect fit. They actually fit flush in my ears. Like he did in the video, I didn't use the tips that came with the earbuds. Plus no matter what brand earbuds I'm using, I will open my jaw and pull back on my ear when inserting. It makes a *big* difference. *I apologize for any redundancy if you're already aware of the following…* If you're seriously considering them, I hope you can utilize Amazon. They make returns so easy.² Also, if you're willing to try it, I've had _very good_ experiences with purchasing used through them. I'm not sure if this matters, but when I purchase _"used,"_ I always stick to items coming specifically from the _Amazon warehouse,_ and I don't buy refurbished. I also haven't purchased anything rated _"Acceptable."_ Usually, _"Good"_ and up. So far it seems to be just something cosmetic with the box. Or something someone returned immediately. And again, if that's not the case, you can always just return it. · •◦◎◦• · ¹ ─ Again, my ears are relatively small. I think if my ears were any smaller they could be a problem. ² ─ I've returned maybe 15 - 20 things in the past year. And you're able to try on a high-end item, send it back and try another. Then someone like me comes along to purchase what you sent back.😁 I paid $215 for the WH-1000XM4s doing that (and they were pristine).
@@CaesiusX XM4 are definitely a bit pricy at full retail to gamble on if they aren't going to stay in my ears. Good call on the Warehouse section on Amazon, I often forget that exists.
@@WheezyTech Yeah, it can be a gamble. And it took me a very long time before I could afford the WF-1000XM4.¹ I'm in my early fifties and I finally managed to afford really good headphones. And the only reason I was comfortable getting them was because I knew I could return them. I'm not sure what your priorities are, but my top 2 have always been _sound quality_ and _battery life._ I hear *very good* things about the _Galaxy Buds Pro._ They were in my top 3 list after watching countless video reviews and comparisons. But the battery wasn't as good as Sony.² I also don't care about active noise-cancelling. I can barely hear anything when I stick earbuds in my ears anyhow.³ 😆 Good luck! 😎👍 I'd be interested in what you end up getting and if you are satisfied. But I know following up on an old comment reply isn't easy. · •◦◎◦• · ¹ ─ And the WH-1000XM4. The only reason I was able to afford them was by selling stuff around the house after my mom passed away. ² ─ 8 hours with ANC on (which is the max for Galaxy buds Pro), and 12 hours with ANC off. Since I'm rarely not listening to music, that helped me decide...of course the rave reviews didn't hurt. 😋 ³ ─ Passive noise-cancelling is great, btw! At least I believe that's the right term. Where the earbuds pull in sound from around you using the microphone. The Sony app lets you adjust just how much sound you want to let in too.

Hi all, I'm looking at getting Sony buds having always used Sony over heads, the price is not around £100 for the xm3 but £200 for the xm4. What would you guys recommend now the prices have changed ?
Nice opener re the comfort fit. That's my main concern. Too bad the foam isn't up to the task. I had to replace the tips on mine. Currently use Spinfit replacement tips on my XM3s.
hi, Does these have the bass signature of sony that covers all the others frequencies and the resolution because i had the wh1000xm4 and i sold them because they had the classic sony signature.
omg I'm so glad I saw this I read crin's review and even though I can't objectively prove it, I felt like my xm4 sounded less dark than people have been making it out to be. I also totally agree on the smoother treble and boosted low frequencies
My xm3's battery has now deteriorated on the right earbud and slightly on the left one as well. They've served me well up until now, I've used them since the end of 2019. Now recently i just lost the case in a cab and honestly I'm honing in on buying these new pairs, originally i just wanted a good pair of earbuds for working out as the xm3's always seemed to fall out when in contact with sweat and could get a little bit uncomfortable for longer periods of time. But I'm going to look around more, I heard that Sony made a workout based variant as well so I'm gonna have to check that out.
Did you test the Sound with LDAC? the Soundstage is tremendous for an in ear. And I own and love an HD800s so you know I do like soundstage and know what I am talking about. How to use the LDAC Codec? You need to activate it in the App (Focus on Sound Quality) and also in the cell phones Bluetooth settings (not for Apple). With LDAC and the clear Bass Set to - 1, 400Hz to -1 2,5 +1 and the highs at 6.3 +4 and at 16KHz +4 they fit my needs so well and have even wider Soundstage then my MTW2
I have that same artifacting sound, it's quite heavy on some songs but on others it's imperceptible. The problem with it is that I think it's more of my iPhone 11 & SBC playback. I have another set of earbuds that sound very compressed and artifact heavily on the same song-- the Sennheiser CX 400BT which is supposedly on the higher side of sound quality for TWS buds (above average IMO, but tuning is more v-shaped so that's what gives the impression of higher SQ). The song that heavily artifacts is "Super Trouper" by ABBA. Something with the instrumentals, right around 1:19 (a better, isolated example at around ~1:33) just gets heavily compressed and sounds like gaps in the recording have been taken out, very sizeable gaps. However, when playing on my Macbook Air M1, both earbuds excelled in SQ when playing Super Trouper and other songs. I've clearly found that it's the connection and streaming between my specific phone and whatever codec that is being reverted to. Even with "Prioritize sound quality" turned on, the song artifacts *slightly* less, slightly. Maybe 40% less at most. It's just this one song I notice it with. Personally (I'm not an audiophile, more of an audio enthusiast) I love the sound quality of the WF XM3's. For the $129 sale price they went for on holidays they were a steal for me. The ANC is very good (sadly it picks up wind noise, but I just turn it off when that happens, changes in SQ are imperceptible to me) for TWS buds and even better for $129. The bass is boosted beautifully in my opinion, it almost reminds me of my Beoplay H6, vocals sound slightly richer (probably because of the bass boost) and the treble emphasis gives the impression of more air or more detail included. The Beoplay excel in imaging and soundstage, but I never felt like I was missing out much with the imaging and verticals of the XM3. *To me, I love it.*
I have XM4 over ear headphones and still have problems with priority on sound quality and LDAC. Its stopping in between songs quite alot. Then I switch mode in app to priority on stable connection, it automatically goes to AAC codec (I use Android phone) and then its ok. Dont really hear the difference in sound quality. But would like to try those earbuds XM4. But if they dont block enough noise then its useless, I work in noisy environment so big headphones are good. Its just too hot in summer to use them
Mate have you tried the new Yamaha YH-L700A Active Noise Cancelling Over-Ear Wireless Headphones? As I'm thinking about grabbing them for partner as she keeps taking my Iris Headphones, which I really love.
Thanks for great review . I have a question about connection of xm4 many people how bought xm3 say's after one or some minutes the earbuds disconnect and then connect to mobile . Does it really happen in xm4 and Wich do you prefer to buy soundcore liberty air 2 pro or Sony xm4?🙏🏼🙏🏼
I admire the portability and stability of TW. Yet, tiny sealed batteries that are constantly being recharged translate to a disposable product with a very short shelf life (more frequent trash for our planet). You pay a lot and you get worse sound and durability than with good wireless over-ear cans. Imo, TWS earbuds make sense for sports and training; home-office and traveling, think twice.
Great points.... love my over-ear WH -XM3s but damn sometimes they're just too impractical and big. Would like something smaller with ANC when I'm say taking the metro to a bar to hang out with friends, or some other situation where space is limited ( i.e when you don't wanna bring an empty backpack lmao) Would you say that TWS is a good option in that circumstance, or do I just roll with some wired in-ears in those cases?
I own the xm3's also the Senheisener 2's I'm looking for opinions on if I should upgrade to the xm4's or possibly recommendations on other better sounding buds 🤔
Good video. I have not yet decided if I will be getting the xm4 as they seem to be being in terms of call quality vs others. I love the design of the xm3 and the sound is good but I can't use them when exercising. Bear in mind you are comparing the xm3 with a few firmware updates under its belt vs the xm4 with a single update I think.
As much as I like sony I can't deal with my ears hurting. I'll stick with my bose quiet comfort. I do miss the som=nys though. And also the xm3 had horrible connection issues.
These earphones are really poor !! Mine have failed just after the warranty run out. I did an internet search, and they are known to fail! Needing a replacement. The new Sony WF-1000XM4 have already started to fail already same issue. My recommendation is to stay away from Sony earphones. VERY EMBARRASSING SONY !!!
I got the same issue as you with the XM3 and it gets really annoying. The connection stability got better with updates but it's not perfect. I would get the xm4 for this reason alone
Although i like my XM4 overall a lot, I'm unfortunately having pretty much exactly the problems he described with the XM3s and according to the discussion board on Head-Fi, this doesn't seem to be an exception.
On my xm3 I have priority on sound quality, i never get any stuttering or interference, I was unaware it was a problem for some. He mentioned LDAC when talking about the xm3 and said he could not get it to work so it went to SBC. It does not have LDAC it has AAC and SBC of course, I'm wondering if he misunderstood them and actually thought they have LDAC.
Put the mic infront of your face, that way you will have to use way less gain and this will result in less backround hiss and noise. Edit: this will also result in a warmer and less fatiguing voice-over, as the trebble is reflected downwards from the top of your palette.
I'm enjoying the sound of my XM4 but they just aren't very loud. If I'm playing newer music I'm good at about 60-70% volume. But older recordings require max volume and even then it's still low. I watched a movie I downloaded from Amazon on a flight today. Again I had to be at max volume and it was still very low overall. I really like the sound but wish it had 25% more volume capability.
Holy shit dude your ears must be shattered... Even with quiet classical recordings i rarely go louder than 50% volume, most of the time i use my xm4 at about 30% volume.

honestly I think the killer features of tws over regular iems are actually passthrough/ambience and just the wireless part, I almost feel anc is worthless on those, you can get near perfect passive isolation with iems the problem is taking them out everytime you wanna hear something...
Yes, this is a very good point, something I forgot to mention.
Combine etymotic iems with an es100 or qudelix 5k - best passive noise isolation plus ambient mode when you need it.
@@KenDupont ooh didn't know that was a thing, cool...
Still with tws it's binaural so you can tell stuff like where cars around you are coming from and etc.
But yeh for like talking to flight attendants and stuff it's probably good enough on those

I've been using the M3 over ear headphones for a couple of years, love em! But I wanted something I could use while BMXing so I picked up the M4 earbuds, your review helped allot.
It's so refreshing to listen to someone who knows what they're talking about and who's not biased.
Very good job man 👍🏽.
Not everyone you don't agree with is "biased". Every reviewer has biases. Andrew has his own biases, which he specifies in the subjective section.
Hi, got a not headphones question. What camera and microphone do you use for your videos? The audio and video quality is amazing 🙌
I loved the sound quality of my xm3 so much I bought the next one too. One at home, one at work
which one is better?
The mx3 case is so much more nicer looking than the newer mx5 and mx4 the buds however ate definitely better on mx5 though
The XM3 came out 2 years ago and is now $170 on amazon. Given this new price point, are they competitive with the $150 earbuds such as the Neobuds Pro, Oneplus Pro, Xiaomi flipbuds pro, Huawei Pro, 1Comfo pro? Is it worth going with a 2 years-old model (XM3) or what do you recommend?
it's 120 on Amazon currently and that's definitely a good deal.

I like my XM3 so much I just paid 100 beans for a refurbished one. I like to have a back up lol. My XM3 is great and just about flawless.
If you had to compare this with a wired iem to which iem would this be comparable? From a pure sound evaluation can this be compared to wired iems in the same price range?
I just got the XM3 and have zero problems with connection when I prioritize sound quality
Funny but after listening to Jabra 75T for a year and a half, I prefer that sound to XM4. It gives it a nice colorful sound, where XM4, is more linear. Also the volume on XM4 doesn’t get as loud as Jabra.
How is the ANC vs the XM4 ?
@@dark-california Havent had xm4 but had 75ts. It definitely cant compete with xm4s. Xm4 should be way better
I unfortunately agree with the discomfort of the XM4. Even if I change tips, they hardly stay in my ear and require too much attention. I was not a fan of the xm3 either. The Jabra 85t is my favorite for fit.
You should try the Azla Sednaearfit tips, those mfs stick like a gorilla glue. CP360 is pretty grippy as well but the stem is way to short imo.
@@hal9xxx321 I tried the sedna crystal and short. But ended up losing a lot of noise cancelling. Also, when chewing or speaking I quickly lose them. I will check for your suggestion, thanks !
Try Final E series tips. Very comfortable + secure and also a little longer, so the shells don't rest directly on the ear.
You literally answered all my questions. Thanks!
Bought XM3 last month . Now my dad loves it ..Now I get to upgrade to XM4😅😂
I have xm3. Less 30min for me buying batteries now. I didnt used this heavily though but i was surprised when i used it, only reached 20min for me.
Greetings, what are your opinions comparing the Sennheiser Momentum 2 to the Sony XM4 wireless earbuds?
Im using xperia xz2c with wf 1000xm3. Choose priority on sound quality and it run normaly.
Soundcore might surprise you!
At this moment, I would go for xm3 because I can replace a new battery easily.
*I apologize for any redundancy if you're already aware of the following…*
If you're seriously considering them, I hope you can utilize Amazon.
· •◦◎◦• ·
¹ ─ Again, my ears are relatively small.
I can barely hear anything when I stick earbuds in my ears anyhow.³ 😆
Good luck! 😎👍 I'd be interested in what you end up getting and if you are satisfied. But I know following up on an old comment reply isn't easy.
· •◦◎◦• ·
¹ ─ And the WH-1000XM4.
³ ─ Passive noise-cancelling is great, btw! At least I believe that's the right term. Where the earbuds pull in sound from around you using the microphone. The Sony app lets you adjust just how much sound you want to let in too.
@@CaesiusX …..do the XM3’s have a constant blinking light? Thanks
@@OutOnTheTiles Okay, I just asked someone I was having a similar conversation with, and I knew he has *XM3's.* Thankfully he responded pretty quickly. . .
The *XM3's* _do_ have have a blinking light. But, you can set them to blink when they're in your ears, *or not.* He also said they will *always* blink when they're _not_ in your ears (which he said is very handy when you're trying to find them in your car, etc.).

hi, Does these have the bass signature of sony that covers all the others frequencies and the resolution because i had the wh1000xm4 and i sold them because they had the classic sony signature.
I have both the WH-XM4 and WF-XM4. The WH is more bass heavy. The WF have more clean overall sound.
Great review, thanks for that mate.
The xm3 is currently on sale for 80€ in my country, the xm4's are 223€
I suppose it wouldnt be worth it to go with the xm4s right?
Here in New Zealand the xm4 is $400 and the xm3 is $200 .... is it still worth getting xm4 for twice the cost?
Are the sound link s are the same? As the xm4? O xm3?

omg I'm so glad I saw this
I read crin's review and even though I can't objectively prove it, I felt like my xm4 sounded less dark than people have been making it out to be.
For anyone that owns the XM3, does it have a static hissing sound when not playing anything?
Would you go for xm3 for £65 or xm4 -£250 . fair enough the xm3 are 2nd hand with unused tips but us the xm4s worth the extra £180
hello I just want to ask, can you use them on my ps5 by Bluetooth method. thanks in advance
Its just too hot in summer to use them

can you use the m3 tips on the m4?
Is the xm4 any better at phone calls, currently a xm3 user
I admire the portability and stability of TW. Yet, tiny sealed batteries that are constantly being recharged translate to a disposable product with a very short shelf life (more frequent trash for our planet). You pay a lot and you get worse sound and durability than with good wireless over-ear cans. Imo, TWS earbuds make sense for sports and training; home-office and traveling, think twice.
Great points.... love my over-ear WH -XM3s but damn sometimes they're just too impractical and big. Would like something smaller with ANC when I'm say taking the metro to a bar to hang out with friends, or some other situation where space is limited ( i.e when you don't wanna bring an empty backpack lmao)
Would you say that TWS is a good option in that circumstance, or do I just roll with some wired in-ears in those cases?
I own the xm3's also the Senheisener 2's
I'm looking for opinions on if I should upgrade to the xm4's or possibly recommendations on other better sounding buds 🤔
Which ones do you like more the Senheisser's M2's or the XM3's
The best noise cancelling headphone is a nice pair of wired IEMs with foam tips underneath a Sony or Bose pair of over-ear ANC headphones.

That’s strange I’m having no issues with my phones lg g8 and one plus 6 using best 990kbps ldac quality.
