I really liked the Reflections at the end. That whole idea of reminding yourself on the mountain before anything could happen really works for me
Thank you 🙏
This video was so well made 🎉 I definitely learned a lot today
These are awesome vids jens!! makes me want to get out there!
Good on you guys for practicing this skill! something you hope to never need but if you do need it....!
I think it's a great video! The only thing I would mention is that having skis, crampons, or backpacks on change things a lot. It's important to practice with those as well.
Good point should have done that.
Most people don’t recomend practicing with crampons, the risk of injury is just too high.
Excellent practice and reflections!
Thanks for sharing. I am a beginner mountaineer. Great tips how to use an ice axe. Hopefully, next winter I will attend a mountaineering skills class. Unfortunately, winter 2023 my classe was canceled due to extreme weather conditions in Mammoth, California USA.
I don't think I'll ever ski something so steep and high in my lifetime (I adore skiing, but I'm very afraid of steeps), but I'm highly enjoying watch "Into the Mountains". Amazing videos, Jens, keep being awesome!!!!! :)
Thank you. Keep awesome too :)
Beautiful man, love the series
Glad you enjoy it!
Love it mate. Would like to see a video on how an advanced skier can get into touring/ski mountaineering.
That’s what this is kind of.
Love it 💫
Awesome :)
Great episode, keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
great video, Jens! regarding thinking "am I wearing crampons or not?": I think it is better to train for "crampons on" case only. I doubt that in case of bad fall, there is a chance for think and do analysis. I would practice my muscle memory to always lift the feet up.
Its a fair point.
Now try it with a decent weight day sack on. It does make a difference. Could also try a whippet pole (Black Diamond).
Crampons catching and flipping you does and has happened, can be big flip time and maybe a body bag. Going down head first on your back and using the crampons lightly up hill was something I was told about as a last resort - but told not to practice…but going down head first just seems daft.
I have also been told of successful arrests with a helmet, but I don’t think I could get mine off that quickly.
Wearing a back pack would have made it more interesting too. Ill try another time.
I certainly belive one must be careful with crampons on. Seems like a bad time.
With the helmet. Just digging the face into the snow to get the edge of the helmet in?
@@StompItTutorials the story with the helmet was remove it and dig the edge in. Supposedly been done but I struggle to get mine off with gloves on just stood on a belay. I wouldn’t want to try it with it on, the neck pressure would be scary. Although needs must if above a vertical drop I guess.
It helps to practice some of this. Can't do it without a SWATCH sponsorship first.
Ah sorry, I forgot 😅
how do you transport your skies on the bike?
Hilarious tutorial. Where do you carry the ice pick so you can access it quickly?
Usually in the backpack or on the backpack and occasionally under the shoulder strap.
@@StompItTutorials It seems like there wouldn’t be enough time to get the pick out. The ski pole seems more likely to help.
@@paulwhetstone0473 If you're at risk of falling, ice axe should be in your hand. You're right that you'll never get it out in time. Assuming, he misunderstood your question. When in doubt, have your ice axe in hand.
And they say snowboarders destroy the slopes...
Haha
