Had a co angler last week who was just in awe with the hds live on my boat. He kept telling me how much better the side imaging was compared to his Garmin

My Dad and I had a cheap fish finder, man that thing drove us nuts some weekend! It would go off and then we wouldn’t have any bites 😂😂😂

I own both Garmin and two hds live units and the Garmin is a pleasure to use. The hds Live units are 4 years old and they are frustrating to work with. Over complicated and absolutely zero support from Lowrance. Takes 4-5 days to get a reply via e-mail and no phone contact. It's beyond me why anyone would own Lowrance .

I have a question that hopefully you can answer. I have a fishing pontoon boat. I currently have a Humminbird Helix 9, Mega DI. The transducer is mounted on the transom. We typically fish for deep water fish (Salmon, Lake Trout) in Upstate NY, Finger Lakes region. Lakes are over 400 ft deep.
We are going to add shallow water species, Walleye, Perch, Crappie, Northern Pike, etc. to our trips. I want to add side scan, or live, or active, or real-time, etc. imaging capability.
But, as I understand it, a typical "transom" mounted side imaging transducer will only show images in "old time". That is to say that I have already gone past my targets on the screen.
So, now I am looking at what I think I may need, "forward-looking" scanning/sonar. To get that capability, I need to mount the transducer at the bow of the boat. That can only be done by attaching it to a trolling motor or mounted to a "down rod".
I think I have learned enough that I don't want to attach an expensive transducer/cable with zip ties, collars, etc. to my Minn Kota Power Drive, w/IPilot trolling motor.
So, I think I am going to add the forward-facing capability in the form of separate unit, like a Garmin or Lowrance unit that has that capability.
I think I can get what I want by adding that capability, as a stand-alone unit, mounted next to my existing Humminbird and have the transducer mounted to a down-rod at the bow of our boat. My question is this ... can I have the added unit (Garmin or Lowrance) powered on with the transducer out of the water?
I can buy a Humminbird compatible Mega Live transducer for my existing unit, but I am not sure I would be happy with the features I see with, especially having to make manual adjustments out of the water. Please...your thoughts.
    Thanks so much,
    Bernie

A standalone livescope unit would a great option for the best forward facing capabilities. I would recommend the Fishing Specialties Bowducer or Sniper Marine Pole. Can't go wrong with a Garmin 1022 or 1222 with the Livescope Plus system. Give me a call if you have any questions or would like to purchase from Russell Marine Products. 316-313-4113 ext 407

Got a question for you. I have a Lowrance Elite FS 9" screen. 3-1 transducer. Anyway, we go out today I turn unit ON and I can't see screen. I wanted to check "brightness" but like I said I couldn't see screen. I know it was on cause when you touch screen it would make noise. Try putiing a towel over unit & my head to make it darker but no luck. Once I got back, we backed boat into garge, turned lights out, & I found that "brightness" was turned all the way down. So I turned it all the way up. Now I could see screen again. Shut unit OFF, then turned it back ON & "brightness" when back to half brightness, but I could make it out to jack it back up. My question is can I some how save the brightness setting to MAX. So unit is always ON MAX brightness?

I would back up waypoints and do a hard reset. It shouldn't default to those settings. Not sure why it happens but I have seen it before.

Ever try reading the manual or checking Help/FAQ links at the Lowrance website? The info is there, so no wonder you can't operate it! 🤣

There's a Zero, 2 Deathwish, Expedition One and a Girl. I bought the bench so these aren't actually boards I skated but got some old decks I'm planning to add to it. A couple Enjoi and a Blind.
