I share the same sentiment. But it seems after Marc Laidlaw basically posted the written ending on his blog, it seems very unlikely we will see a post HL2ep2 continuation. Half Life: Alyx is a different story of course, I’m sure Valve will at least put out one more.
@@KommanderKarl What he posted wasn't the actual plot to EP3. In fact, according to him, the game didn't get far enough in development to have a structured plot. Even if Epistle 3 was the rough draft for the story, it would've likely changed significantly throughout development anyways. Epistle 3 was more of a personal goodbye letter to the HL series and Valve itself, since he was retiring.
I am all about gameplay, the story is never the most important thing to me as I RP all the characters myself anyway... HL2 was the first game ever made which felt like a horror movie mixed with a shooting gallery - that is the piece I describe as PERFECTION :) And I still play it today and wish for the remaster... It's more than likely going to be a free mod in the same sense that Portal RTX was. Nvidia Reflex is eventually going to be available for the public to use for free so that they can mod and remaster older games with dated visuals.

Yesterday I booted up Half-Life 2 and the atmosphere is still amazing, it truly aged like a fine wine. Despite being a 2000s kid I'm still impressed with the game's technical achievements. Soon I'll have enough money for a new PC with RTX GPU then I'll definitely try this
I was born '93 so was a bit too young for HL and HL2 back then, but we still used to fool around with HL / TF / CS as kids, so I went back and played through HL and HL2 a few years ago. They've aged really well I think, and this is very exciting news.
Even though I don't have the beefiest computer for RTX, I'm still kinda excited to see this. I'd really like to have a more modern looking HL2 that isn't the infamous Cinematic Mod, but I'm just not sure how well a 3060 is gonna do with it given it needed Ultra Performance DLSS for Portal RTX.
HL2 getting a remake is awesome. The Half Life series is my favorite game series, and HL2 getting a full makeover with ray tracing on top makes me so happy
I hope that the assets and texture enhancements do get released publicly for people who don't have an RTX can atleast have access to a version of this remaster. Although it is looking quite good I must say, and the technology, if it is as powerful as they describe it is may be a revolution for remasters/remakes. But I wonder, how would this affect in the long term for remakes/remasters? Will it kill the point of games like Black Mesa or the RE Remakes, since people could just put the game through the Remix process and call it a day? It is an interesting period we live in tech terms, and what better way to launch a technology that is not only technically impressive, but also probably revolutionary, than doing it with HL2?

They are already good on their own they don't need really need remasters in the first place. If you're so hyped then go play the games no need to wait for an rtx mod
If you have PCVR, I highly recommend replaying through all of HL2 with the amazing free VR mod in the meantime. I just finished Ep 2 and it was incredible how well they've managed to integrate the gameplay into VR.

Hey Kommander, out of curiosity are you aware of the Mmod by Gunship Mark II? On RTX. While I can't play Raytrace but I am still excited for this... wish my PC is up to par... But happy for it regardless.
Still a big fan of the original half life, from the opening credits on the tram to the crowbar to the change up in atmosphere at the end game. 👍 just good stuff.
I just finished a playthrough, with MMmod. The game looks great honestly, plays great, even in vanilla there isn't much there except for gunplay (which is pretty poor I'll admit) that needs improvements. But for that we have MMod. It is a wonderful game, that doesn't need microtransactions thank you very much.
I just hope the remaster is going to be in 64 bit…Im really missing playing the game on my macbook, couldnt play it anymore since they stoppd supporting 32 bit games :,(
Expect the outdoor areas to look much worse. RTX remix can only replace textures and models; surfaces like the exteriors of buildings, terrain, and water are firmly stuck in 2004 land unless they package a full set of custom maps.
Although I was hooked on CGA graphical gaming from a young age, it was the original HL1 & HL2 that blew my mind (and freaked me out with jump scare moments). I am not a fan of remakes (lowball lazy money grabs) but for this remake, I am excited.
This feels significantly bigger than portal rtx since in my opinion portal had a lot less assets and was all indoors with not as many objects as Half Life 2. I'm really excited even though my laptop would explode evening knowing this exists

Playing this immediately after Black Mesa to get the true modern graphics experience that the two main Half-Life games deserves would be quite the visual treat. We may not have gotten Epistle 3, but we certainly got Half-Life: Alyx (an amazing VR game to play 100% wirelessly by using a Quest 2 or Pico 4 and their Air Link/Virtual Desktop features to play otherwise PCVR-only games) and more. :D
With this being a community effort, I wonder what, if anything, Valve is preparing for 20th anniversary... Though I asked myself the same question 10 years ago xd

(ed: which you already make lol) If RWS is smart (they are, they hired you!), they'll kinda treat you as a bit of a public relations guy, letting you put out studio related content. Of course, if that interests YOU! That's what makes all your content enjoyable, is YOUR passion. To pay a really good compliment, I liken your enthusiasm for what you do, as I do Adam Savage's for the things he enjoys!
So we are getting better models and textures + raytracing. I can only hope the latter wont make the requirements sky high. After all source engine was a miracle to me and my friends as how well it run on our potato PCs. I hope we gonna experience the game once again.

I just ordered a new OC’d 4070, upgrading from a OC’d 1070, just in time! And yes, this is Huge! Hope gmod will be updated with the new stuff too.
