I was having issues with mine, and what I found is that the rubber gasket that runs along the outside of the glass up against the roof panel will dry up over time, get covered in gunk, and start to almost bond to the roof. Which makes the moomroof not work properly. The solution is super easy and very cheap, so no need to pay almost a grand at the dealership to have someone "fix" it. With a wet microfiber cloth scrub ALL the gasket, front back and sides, as well as the parts of the roof panel that it meets. Use rubber conditioner in all the gasket, and use a silicone based lubricant on all meeting surfaces, including the roof pieces that meet the gasket. And boom. Good as new. Just do this once or twice a year and you're good 👍

common issue with the Ford sunroof, the tracks are made of plastic and continue to break. I've replaced my King Ranch sunroof twice and rails are broken again. Seems like FORD should rectify and recall the tracks, Especially since these trucks are very expensive!

@@GorefeastDrummer Yea if you're dumb enough to take it to the dealer and have some kid right out of high school work on it. But you can buy just the tracks online for around 150 bucks and about an hour of your time to change them out lol Mine have been broken for years on my 2017 f250 but still works. I just reset the tracks once in a while and unscrew the glass and clean the tracks and reapply kryton grease and it still works even though they are all busted up and cracked and broken in multiple places. It's honestly just typical pos ford saving few cents on cheep parts. Same as the mustangs with the china made mt-82's. Ford doesn't care about you or the American people and just care about the $$$ and they know you all will keep on buying ford and ford knows it and make their vehicles cheaper and cheaper every year. Most new fords "well pretty much all new fords" now have plastic oil pans and trans pans. If that alone doesn't scream cheep I don't know what does.

Finally got it fixed and like you now every time I use it I always open in the vent first then close and open the roof. Gotta admit I cross my fingers everytime I open the it. Clean and lube the track often and check the seals.

So I “fixed” mine. First, I used a small LEGO sword to go around the seal from the top. That got me to vent up. Then I got to full open. Cleaned the railways for the window of debris. Found little pieces of plastic from something broken but I don’t know what. Then, it wouldn’t close all the way. That kinda told me it was a sensor or something. So 15 minutes of looking and trying different things, in the end, I just gave it some help as it was closing and it closed all the way. Now it is functioning normally, but I don’t trust it.

Since im Swedish i dont know if this is the correct word for it. But i would recommend you to lube?? the seal with a siliconebased spray like wd-40 silicone spray. Make sure you dont use a spray cointaining any petroleumbased contents (petroleumbased will make the rubber seal stick even worse and later on crack).
I would also recommend you to clean the rails that the sunroof slides on. Q-tip and toothbrush should do the trick cleaning all tight spaces. And then relube the rails with lithium grease!
Now your sunroof should open like brand new and also be protected against leaks even when in cold climate!
Im gonna take a look at the rest of your videos now!
    Lycka till!!

Mine cost me $2,500 on my 2016 F-150 just after the warranty ran out. The parts inside are plastic. If the cable breaks you have to buy the entire unit and two new motors. I had complained about it sticking to the dealership for 1.5 years, but it didn't fail completely until after the warranty ran. The deal is that the seals stick and stress the parts (many are plastic). If you lubricate the seals on a regular basis with a silicon lubricant, it seems to solve this problem. Ford should do something about this. I got hosed.

That's annoying. Although that's just a symptom of sunroofs like that these days. There is only one I've seen without it and that was on my mom's '87 Nova but that literally vented up and went back down. No sliding. I do like the idea of the airflow and the cool view some days, but I don't think it's necessary and I do know the ones without it are actually quieter on highways.

Da Vert yeah, I ended up putting some dielectric grease on the seals and it dropped right down. Only problem is, the plastic track piece was broken so the glass made grinding/crunching sounds when I rolled it back. I have the new plastic parts ordered which were about $150 and I found a RUclips video on how to replace them so I’m just gonna do that. If I forget to hit the vent button and hit the open button, it breaks the tracks. This week after 2 years of remembering to hit the vent button, I forgot and hit the open button. Sure as poop it broke. And now that it's out of warranty the dealer is saying 10 hours of labor to repair and $3500. Facepalm. I think we need to start up a class action on the issue because it's clearly a design issue. The dealer has blamed trees around my house. I have spent 15k cutting down trees. Here is what is wrong. Or was, if you've fixed it since
    ruclips.net/video/wqeCjLI6mrc/видео.html
What was sticking it is a broken piece of the lift arms that has fallen down into the track. If you have not done that repair, I would highly advise you not use it until you do. I have other videos on how to lube it, program it, etc.
Also, and this is very important: Every couple of months, vent the window. Wipe off the rear of the seal (on the front glass that is vented) with a wet paper towel or old rag. Then lube it. I use 3M Silicone Paste. Got a video for that, too.
Then: Whenever you open it...ALWAYS vent it first. That will overcome any "sticking" that might have occurred between the two glasses, and venting it is much less strain on the lift arms than trying to pull it down and retract. So vent it first, then you can open it.

  •  4 года назад

The dealer might know what the problem is if they have seen this before? I think you are right about the seal though. It looked kinda messed up as if it got sticky and then stuck. I just wouldn't want your sunroof to go kaput after the warranty is over. Let us know if it happens again.

Same thing my 2015 does. It will vent fine but if I try to drop down it binds up just like that. I guess I’ll give it a good wipe down with some wd-40.

I have a 2015 Edge AND a 2018 F150. BOTH of them have this very SAME problem. PLEASE tell me what to do. I took my Edge into a local dealer and they ABSOLUTELY RUINED the ENTIRE interior of my vehicle AND put some kind of “made up” shade in it. They left GREASY BLACK FINGERPRINTS EVERYWHERE! (It’s still that way)! That issue started at the end of bumper to bumper warranty. My F150 is doing the SAME exact thing now... i have NOT taken it to them because I’m still pissed about how they RUINED my other vehicle.
    PLEASE ADVISE ME!

My F150 sunroof did the same thing but no one was able to get it to work. It costed me $4,000 to put an entire new sunroof in the vehicle. Shortly after that I got water in my left rear tail light and they wanted $800 for that because it has the sensors. My doors started to make creaking noises when driving down the road and hitting bumps. My steering started to pull to the left and had front end issues.

DS TRUCKS I just use seal lubricant from pep boys, but any kind of silicone lubricant compound will work . I think Ford sells some for this application .
Another good tip is to push up on the glass with two fingers to assist the motor when putting into vent mode

This is due to any defect in the tempering process, it is unnoticeable. It can vary with temperature and humidity with each day. I work with these F-150 sunroof panels and have seen them explode upon touching them. Very startling indeed.

Yeah, you don't have to do all that. Keep the seal between the glasses lubed...where they touch each other. That's the sticking point, and it puts enormous strain on the lift arms to break that seal.
And always vent the glass first, before opening it. That breaks the seal and saves the lift arms, which is what was broken on this truck. (and all the rest of them)
Clean and lube the back of the seal on the front glass, and it'll last much longer. But will still eventually break, just not as soon.

Sean, here’s my two cents for what it’s worth. Lube the seals real well with silicone. Close the sunroof, pull the fuse so you don’t accidentally open it again. Hopefully when you sell or trade the truck it will still work.

Get some see throough gorilla tape, similar and when it's completely shut then tape around the outer edge and the middle where the roof splits. Shouldn't be able to see the tape and it'l completely waterproof any cracks. Swap the tape out every so often and there you go. I'd love to see someone manufacture a single panel piece of glass that can be mounted instead of the split glass. Te glass is nie to have i guess but who really opens it that much?
