remember when linus found out that cables almost don't affect cooling and now he put a psu in the middle of the case
It's ok, the PSU can't block airflow if the fans aren't even turning
It’s also water cooled so airflow is not as much of a concern as it would be if it was air cooled
And don't forget that the psu is a fan as well. 😂

I'm sure they will use ARM CPUs only on some insanely sleek MacBook, because if they completely switch to another architecture a year after they released a x86 workstation that can cost up to 53k bucks, they are really stupid.
@@comicsanz97 correct and they also need to give devs time to update their apps to support arm as well. They won't (also can't) wholesale switch to arm for at least a few years (maybe never 100%)
transatlant1c yeah Apple has been adding support and pushing devs to port mac apps to iPados probably so when they switch to x86 processors they will already have apps done.

Yeah, for real. This is probably one of the most involved builds on the channel. Make it a showpiece.
Sadly a lot of the parts for their builds are provided by sponsor companies and aren’t theirs to keep, and even the parts they CAN keep are very expensive and it makes a lot more sense to reuse them in future builds than to drop tens of thousands on new stuff. It sucks and it hurts me soul but it really has to be that way sadly
For real! They should always have a reference hackintosh for benchmarking.
But they use mac’s in their daily business. It’s still cost effective to keep it in use.

I have wanted to do this for 3 years. I have like 5 G5s in our shop and I could cobble something together that would work, but the hardware to complete the modification of the case is something I don't have until recently.

It's actually because that's one of the few cards that will work under MacOS. Essentially unlike windows and Linux apple only needs to include drivers for devices which they use. This means only a select few broadcom chipsets work. The most common chips used for this purpose feature 3 wifi antennae and 1 bluetooth antenna.

@@maqqi7124 If you want it black, I highly recommend finding an anodizing outfit that does scary black rifles. It's far superior to paint, which is why Apple anodized their cases, and anodization is nearly marine-proof. If you're a 40K fan, there's a military standard puke green generally available for cheap and super durable, if you feel like hanging out with Nurgle.

I did a G5 ATX conversion by myself and I find it quite interesting to see different approaches on different builds for the common problems like backplane design, power button and I/O Ports, Power LED, Mainboard Tray, etc. I actually left the mezzanine in place because I still use a BD drive with the original drive port (which actually fits without any adjustment) and a hard drive on top. I ended up building a similar stand for the power supply, but there are folks using the original mac pro power supply housing and putting in a server power supply from a windows machine. With the mezzanine still in place, I unfortunately just can use a 280 mm radiator in front, but that works well for me. With the paint job, the LED logo and a Xeon, this thing looks quite nice! Kudos to you guys!

If you want to get rid of the machining marks from the bottom of the pocket in your logo discs it's really easy next time. Pocket them out 0.2mm higher than you want them and then do the last 0.2mm as a separate operation but run the spindle speed high and the feed rate really low i.e. less than 1000mm/m and it will come up looking like it's been sanded with around 240 grit and no matching marks.

15:20 This depends entirely on the specific OS update. Some can be installed from the normal System Updater just fine, but others will break the Clover bootloader & prevent it from booting up anymore. Part of owning a Hackintosh is simply having to Google to find our which a given update is. And if it's one that CAN'T be updated the normal way (which is the case more often than not), it'll require a OS reinstall to do, so these tend to be left alone until there's a whole bunch of them to install at once.
Aka, a Hackintosh owner will often reinstall his OS (after backing their data up ofc) a few times a year just to get the latest updates. Is that a pain? Yeah, sure. But enough of a pain to be worth paying >2x as much $ for a given amount of performance to get rid of? Not even close for most Hackintosh owners.

If you ever interested in self painting other metal pieces, use one of those spray gun handles that attaches to spray cans. It helps even out the spray pattern, Using a hard clear coat and sanding it/ polishing it really makes the metal shine, or if that’s excessive (It’s used for wonderfully painted Motorcycle Parts) I also use Antique Silver Paint to add a metallic tone. Great Work though!!

yes! you need a titan ridge card to add thunderbolt compatiability - plenty of info on it. you need to re flash it and mod it slightly and use opencore with MacOS, but it WILL fire up and is hot swappable. get on it Linus!
