WAY ahead of its time. In 1984, they were shooting on location, using film(?) instead of tape, and creating an excellent cast that actually had some very good lines, instead of the normal sit com BS. Should have known it was too good to last!
I remember watching this when it originally aired. I loved it as a kid. When I tried to tell people about this show they had no idea what I was talking about. Most just think Jim started his career on In Living Color. Thanks for upload
Jim did have a career before In Living Color but it was In Living Color that took his career to where he wanted it as far as comedy wise. This show was a start for him but In Living color took him to the next level. Even he said that without ILC they're never would have been a Ace Ventura
@@dboslice Of course, without the Duck Factory and appearances at the Improv and the Laugh Factory etc., there may have never been a spot for him on 'In Living Colour'
This didn't really start his career, but somewhat derail it. In Living Color gave him the perfect platform to showcase his skills. That launched his real career.
This show reminded me of another "ahead-of-it's-time" animation-themed TV show: "My World And Welcome To It" starring William Windom as a character based on James Thurber.
It also won an Emmy for its production design. Not often a show cancelled before its first season even ends win multiple Emmys, should have gotten renewed
After that, the entire MTM, Four Star and TCF TV library are now belongs to Disney Media Distribution where the new logo will appear after this show that replaced the other 20th Television.
This was one of his first roles, airing around 1984 I think. It didn't make it past the first 13 weeks even though it had Cheers for a lead in. They made him a straight man to the rest of the cast and we now know Jim Carrey is no straight man.
@@DrDomich The straight man is a stock character in a comedy performance, especially a double act, sketch comedy, or farce. When a comedy partner behaves eccentrically, the straight man is expected to maintain composure. That is what he means
Actually, Jim CAN play straight man characters. Just look at Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask. He just doesn’t do them as often. Also, in regards to Cheers, you gotta keep in mind that this show aired in 1984. At that time, Cheers was still a flop and not as successful as it would become around 86-87. So The Duck Factory was stuck between a show that wasn’t a hit and a show that was: likely Hill Street Blues.
I’ve only just learned of this sitcom apparently it was and is very well regarded by animators. Looking forward to watching it. Thanks for the uploads 👍😃
I miss the days when TV shows had theme songs and opening credit sequences. Mrs. Winkler was Teresa Ganzel, Johnny Carson's Tea Time Movie girl (after Carol Wayne).
Here I am on a Saturday night, deciding where to go, and this video grabbed my attention via a search suggestion! Great pilot, I thought. The ending theme has a hint of Chuck E's In Love to it.
Jack Gilford who is Brooks here was a very famous N.Y. born comedian of some note. Unfortunately he was a victim of McCarthy's insane 50's fake Communist hunt. Lost time and credits till that madness passed in the 60's and he returned. Frank Welker as the voice artist here was that in his real life and voiced dozens of famous cartoon characters including 'Fred' of "Scooby Doo" & 'Abu' the monkey in "Aladdin".
Saw this when it first came out. Of course, it was more for Jack Gilford and Don Messick; that Jim Carrey guy was a pleasant enough straight man, though.
@kassandramd It aired during the summer of 1984, so naturally the ratings were much lower. And remember, back then, there were still only 3 major networks.
This is Thad Mumford's only producing stint with MTM Enterprises. I guess Mary Tyler Moore thought maybe he wasn't good enough for a producer like him, whereas The Electric Company and Good Times has.
Hi, I'd like to make russian subs for this show. But there are moments which i can't hear properly. If somebody could help me in this matter, leave a comment please.

Just imagine seeing this first episode and having no idea you just saw the tv debut of one the greatest actors of our team. TV/flim history there

Theresa, Jim, and Clarence have been favorites of mine for years. I am so happy to have been introduced to their earlier work. Thanks
My goodness this show is a hidden gem!
The roller skating guitar guy I met in 2012, crazy
I saw him in Venice way back in the 90's. I'd remembered him from the opening credits of some show when I was a kid. How old could he be now?
8:43 Speaking of Disney, they now own the rights to this show given that the MTM library was also included in the 20th Century Fox deal.
Still speaking of Disney, the legendary Don Messick as Wally Wooster, was heard as Papa McDuck on DuckTales and as the mayor on Bonkers!!!

2021 fun!
Thanks Jim!
This was a lot funnier than I'd heard. I got a few laughs. It has a good premise and interesting characters but I've only seen this one episode.
It's like a movie with a laugh track.
I thought this was a great show, but NBC never gave it a chance. I loved the title song.
It was terrible, that's why the cancelled it. Yikes.
@@Brendan-Black I wouldn't say terrible. I think "meh" is a better way of putting it.
I came here cause I'm a big fan of Teresa Ganzel. But that was a LOL joke right off the bat: "At least he has a place to stay tonight".
Such a wholesome guy.
Thanks for posting this great show. Now I don't have to dig in the many boxes of VHS tapes to find the episodes I taped when it was on the air.
GOD, carreys voice was high when he first started

Thanks for posting this, as funny as I remember. It was a spring replacement show that just didn't get picked up for the fall.
Imagine if they revived this and made it more like Carrey's newest show...
Just found this in 2021
Damn! I forgot about this show. I used to watch as a kid for the animated parts. I foget how long Jim Carrey has been around!
Comedy Central aired this very early starring role of carrey's back in the mid 90's if i recall.
I haven’t seen this since it aired!!!

Pretty cool seeing his early stuff. Thank u for posting
Where is the laughter coming from in the outdoor scenes? lol
First show in and I'm really digging it. I sure hope the network picks it up for another season.
Unfortunately it didn't, nobody bother to pick MTM Enterprises up for another season. But bigger things were in store for Jim Carrey.
I'm doing a documentary for MTM hoping to bring MTM Enterprises back from extinction.
Sarcasm, right? the show is from 1984

1984, year I was born. It got cancelled just after 14 episodes. Not sure why, its pretty good and he is so sweet and innocent in this:)

Kind of feels like M*A*S*H - not really “funny”, but full of lighthearted moments. I can understand why the average viewer didn’t get it.
I have to be honest: I only came because this was the only live action role of the talented Don Messick.
Yosef Demby Don was pretty hilarious in that episode.
This episode, or the episode with Wally is the center of the story?
