I have both and I still prefer zhonglii because he deals both passive geo damage and at c2 shields the rest of the party in co-op. Also shields with both the E and the skill so the uptime is nonstop if you are using favious lance.

I think people are hyping this up too much, specially her c2, saying Zhongli powercreep. Zhongli wins in the eas of use alone. Applying the same element to the enemies, then swirling it to absorb, that's quite some steps. Imagine the enemy deals hydro dmg, surely you're not gonna fight it with hydro characters. Unless the enemy self infuses itslef with hydro, you can't get a hydro shield. Now, if she can absorb the same element as the enemy, then sure. She can provide a stronger shield.

When it hit by same element it will have 250% more strenght. But most scenario is you need to hit enemy with the opposite element that effectove against it. In return enemies will you with their element that effective against your shield.
Even tho Zhongli didn't last as long, remember that Zhongli has very low cooldown eventually giving rise to infinite shielding.. i highly doubt any character powercreeping this aspect of Zhongli

Finally someone mentioned this. While talking about shielders people only look at absorption and overlook duration which is so important. Most hypercarry units field time are not covered by 12s shields (I've tried layla with arlecchino and the shield always runs out). After getting zhongli my arlecchino team feels much more comfy and strong with no need to micro manage the shield. Everytime a new shielder releases the zhongli powercreep discussion starts, but the new shielders are always at the bottom tiers of abyss usage while zhongli is consistently on the higher end, I think that speaks for itself
Not only that. Zhongli provides shield, debuff and buffs with either TOTM or Petra SIMULTANEOUSLY. Lanyan can only have a strong shield in the event of stacking atk on her. People want to use her on Viridicent Venerer and Thrilling Tales, Thrilling tales has low ATK, and HP as a secondary stat. And VV doesn't provide any ATK, her shield is gonna be very low with that build. Moreover, if you want her to tank anything (even at C6 because her shield doesn't get stronger any more) you'll gonna need to relay on swirling the element of your opponents, which makes you lose vv shred 😅 and if you want the vv shred. It's just like Noelle all over again.
Try comparing Zhongli with 2p Tenacity and 2p Vourukasha to the set you're using on Lan Yan. 2p Vourukasha's Glow gives him more HP, which will help his shields.
The whole point of Lanyan is role consolidation for VV and shielding, and in abyss if an enemy self-infuses an element for her to swirl, they will have very high resistances to their innate element, making the vv shred pointless, and if your main dps is the same element as the enemy, you couldn't be doing things more wrong. If you want more damage (abyss is still only a dps check) then you will swirl your dps element, not the enemy's aura, making the shield much less effective (save for C2). Zhongli still wins by a mile, I'm questioning if those glazing in the comments know how this game's combat works at all.
it's not even really role consolidation and more like the "illusion of it" she can't be a good shielder and a res shredder at the same time because of how VV works. 😅

To not only shred res but give ur character ttds and the longest possible shield. Zl's shield can be cast whenever cuz he has a 20s uptime but vv doesn't last 20s so u should never start with her

The best shielder is the one that has a strong shield, no shield up time and don’t need to constantly switch to shield character and refresh shield. Lan yan is not bad but she needs to refresh her shield , unless you build her as dps then she refreshes her shield while normal attacking.
I think this open new way to play. I have C2 Zhongli but his Geo hardly give any further effect on damage (except his passive which reduce 20% res.) now having Lan Yan I can swirl which affect damage further.
I like lanyan but the fact that you basically HAVE to absorb the element is kinda disappointing btw 70khp zhongli abuser here, his talent isn't upgraded at all (send resin please) and iirc I tested him and the ONLY things that could break his shield before skill reset was rocky alvidsen, Liam (overload reactions), and.... a capybara?
Which is not even a big deal. She can proc VV, hold TTDS and give 2nd best shield without infusion. She's way better than zhongli especially at C2 and C6.

Every new geo characters and other elemental characters are surpassing Zhongli day to day. Thank god his shield remains the strongest. I hope people use him only as a shielder now a days. Poor Zhongli and Venti should be reworked by genshin developers.....😢

As a Zhongli haver, Double Geo Arle user, I don't think your friend is missing on much by having not pulled Citlali. He also gives buffs and shreds, and even better, he slots in more teams than her so they really didn't lose.
it seems that Lan Yan is a better shield for Hydro, Anemo, Pyro and Electro and she loses to zhongli when it is Geo and Dendro. Layla and Citlali tie with her when it's Cryo. also zhongli wins in Physical attacks.
Not quite, most likely when fighting you won't have a possibility to successfully absorb the correct element or, for example there are a few different enemies and you just can't effectively block both of their attacks. Zhongli is just very easy to play and blocks all damage with the same effectiveness so he is still the best in his niche.

If you have Citlali's weapon on your account, C2 Lan Yan can become a monstrous buffer + shielder. I got C0 Lan Yan when I pulled, unfortunately, my pity is at 70 now. I guess I am only getting C1 Lan Yan this patch.
The god of shielding still at the top. WIth his 100% upkeep insanely durable 250% effective against anything 20% res shredding WALL. Tho lanyan is indeed very nice into self infusing enemies or in teams where a second anemo would fit, also she buffs em a little at c4 so there's a thing to consider, most ppl will also run her with vv. She would be actually insane if her shield scaled with EM instead of atk, but no such luxury atm

When fighting geo or dendro, zhongli shield is still best. When fighting enemies with P/H/E/C element, elemental shield of same element is strong. In this case -lanyan.

She’s only situationally has a stronger shield than Zhongli and doesn’t offer universal shred so he’s still overall better but it’s crazy they allowed a 4 star to have a better shield than him at all.
Not really, Noelle has a better shield than him, the only catch is it only applies to her shield when it's on her because of high DEF. Same applies here to Lanyan, her shield is stronger, when you stack atk on her, which you won't ever do lol, she can have the strongest shield, but it's pretty much useless.
zhongli's shield is still most universal and versatile while lan yan's shield is stronger against same element that she absorbed otherwise it is pretty decent but not as good as zhongli but bettre than all other shielders like layla

He's still more universal than lan yan. When you fight against dendro, geo, or physical enemies, lan yan's shield is much weaker compared to zhongli. Zhongli's uptime is also much better.

It's no big deal. Lan Yan just works in a different way. So it's quite easy to create situations where her shield is superior. In general, Zhongli is still better to use just for shielding purpose.

You're mistaken, lanyan's shield absorption is based on what the enemy applies to her, not the other way around. Check IWinToLose's video about her.

Lanyan can only have a strong shield in the event of stacking atk on her. People want to use her on Viridicent Venerer and Thrilling Tales, Thrilling tales has low ATK, and HP as a secondary stat. And VV doesn't provide any ATK, her shield is gonna be very low with that build.
Moreover, if you want her to tank anything (even at C6 because her shield doesn't get stronger any more) you'll gonna need to relay on swirling the element of your opponents, which makes you lose vv shred 😅 and if you want the vv shred.
It's just like Noelle all over again.
Zhongli’s shield is still better against dendro and geo attacks because Lanyan can’t absorb these elements
Try comparing Zhongli with 2p Tenacity and 2p Vourukasha to the set you're using on Lan Yan. 2p Vourukasha's Glow gives him more HP, which will help his shields.
in real world scenario with multiple enemies and multiple elements zhongli is op, remember zhongli's shield uptime and res shred
Let's do a second test, and try actually stacking HP on zhongli. his is the strongest if you know what you're doing.

The whole point of Lanyan is role consolidation for VV and shielding, and in abyss if an enemy self-infuses an element for her to swirl, they will have very high resistances to their innate element, making the vv shred pointless, and if your main dps is the same element as the enemy, you couldn't be doing things more wrong.
If you want more damage (abyss is still only a dps check) then you will swirl your dps element, not the enemy's aura, making the shield much less effective (save for C2).
Zhongli still wins by a mile, I'm questioning if those glazing in the comments know how this game's combat works at all.
it's not even really role consolidation and more like the "illusion of it" she can't be a good shielder and a res shredder at the same time because of how VV works. 😅

@@alexsjarif it matters bc there are ppl unaware that her shield snapshots buffs, increasing her shield strength significantly, while her burst snapshotting is meaningless, it's like saying Chongyun burst snapshots, but what does that matter? the hits happen fast enough to make little to no difference.
sure, Lan Yan might do 5k more dmg or so than Zhongli's bc of Bennett buffs, but that's a 250 dps increase in a 20s rot, that's less than a margin of error and it's not a burst worth building ER for, even tho it's fast enough that it's better and stronger than ZL's burst
@ruxbon u do know lanyan is an anemo catalist unit right? Meaning that in a lot of her teams if she is gonna be played she will cast her shield after bennets burst and right before ur dps. To not only shred res but give ur character ttds and the longest possible shield.
Zl's shield can be cast whenever cuz he has a 20s uptime but vv doesn't last 20s so u should never start with her

The best shielder is the one that has a strong shield, no shield up time and don’t need to constantly switch to shield character and refresh shield. Lan yan is not bad but she needs to refresh her shield , unless you build her as dps then she refreshes her shield while normal attacking.
I think this open new way to play. I have C2 Zhongli but his Geo hardly give any further effect on damage (except his passive which reduce 20% res.) now having Lan Yan I can swirl which affect damage further.

Which is not even a big deal. She can proc VV, hold TTDS and give 2nd best shield without infusion. She's way better than zhongli especially at C2 and C6.
@@NetrocMagi 2nd best shield is quite debatable. Layla provides good shield, too. Remember, only Geo shields have 150% absorbtion against all atks. Other shields has 250% against the same element, but only 75% against others. But yes. She can use VV, which is nice.

Every new geo characters and other elemental characters are surpassing Zhongli day to day. Thank god his shield remains the strongest. I hope people use him only as a shielder now a days. Poor Zhongli and Venti should be reworked by genshin developers.....😢

As a Zhongli haver, Double Geo Arle user, I don't think your friend is missing on much by having not pulled Citlali. He also gives buffs and shreds, and even better, he slots in more teams than her so they really didn't lose.

it seems that Lan Yan is a better shield for Hydro, Anemo, Pyro and Electro and she loses to zhongli when it is Geo and Dendro. Layla and Citlali tie with her when it's Cryo.

Not quite, most likely when fighting you won't have a possibility to successfully absorb the correct element or, for example there are a few different enemies and you just can't effectively block both of their attacks. Zhongli is just very easy to play and blocks all damage with the same effectiveness so he is still the best in his niche.

Btw yall, Lanyan might have tankier shield than zhongli *AFTER ABSORPTION* , but if you see the duration and CD, she has around 4s of downtime. So in terms of uptime, Zhongli and Citlali is still better. But Lanyan can have tankier shield
If you have Citlali's weapon on your account, C2 Lan Yan can become a monstrous buffer + shielder. I got C0 Lan Yan when I pulled, unfortunately, my pity is at 70 now. I guess I am only getting C1 Lan Yan this patch.

The god of shielding still at the top. WIth his 100% upkeep insanely durable 250% effective against anything 20% res shredding WALL. Tho lanyan is indeed very nice into self infusing enemies or in teams where a second anemo would fit, also she buffs em a little at c4 so there's a thing to consider, most ppl will also run her with vv. She would be actually insane if her shield scaled with EM instead of atk, but no such luxury atm

She’s only situationally has a stronger shield than Zhongli and doesn’t offer universal shred so he’s still overall better but it’s crazy they allowed a 4 star to have a better shield than him at all.
Not really, Noelle has a better shield than him, the only catch is it only applies to her shield when it's on her because of high DEF.
Same applies here to Lanyan, her shield is stronger, when you stack atk on her, which you won't ever do lol, she can have the strongest shield, but it's pretty much useless.

He's still more universal than lan yan. When you fight against dendro, geo, or physical enemies, lan yan's shield is much weaker compared to zhongli. Zhongli's uptime is also much better.

About Citlali, her shield is not the reason why we use her so it will be insane if her shield was stronger than Zhongli shield.
It's no big deal. Lan Yan just works in a different way. So it's quite easy to create situations where her shield is superior. In general, Zhongli is still better to use just for shielding purpose.
