It wasn't a weird video, it was a heartfelt and truly beautiful one. I'm not an American but the stories you related, the values you expressed, these are the American values that I have grown to love and that I think to a certain extent are strongly kindred to those that were taught to me in Australia and the UK. Happy Independence Day to you and your family!

Thank you Dr Lee for a wonderful heart felt and so true video. It is so clear why Matt is the man he is with such a great and strong valued family. I started to tear when you showed the dishes but couldn't not cry when you showed the flag. I am so greatfull that both you and Matt are such excellent role models for our young. I'm almost 66 and although I'm blessed to be able to live alone I often think of my parents and Grandmother who are long ago passed and all they instilled in us. Your story like Uncle Floyd's is so touching and a wonderful look back at what has made our country what it was and can be again. We sincerely thank you Dr Lee and family and please tell Uncle Floyd how admired he is as well. What a beautiful holiday tribute. Thanks again I'm Linda from Virginia.

I felt your heart and shared in your joy in this video. Today has been a remembrance for me too. My Dad passed in March and going through his things, I found 148 photos from his time in the navy during the Korean War. Doing research, I was able to connect with a group that continues to honor the veterans from his ship the USS Soley. I scanned and sent the photos and was so pleased that sharing apart of him was so well received. The experience was uplifting and I need that. Thank you for sharing your memories and making this day even more special. I understand. God bless you and God bless America.

Brother Lee, Thank you for such a patriotic and Christian message! It was very memory inducing for this old Missouri farm boy. I have my uncle's Ithaca 22 that he used to teach me how to shoot as well as his shotgun that kicked me back into the creek behind the barn the first time I shot it by myself. America is a great place, but so is Russia. Russian contributions to literature, art, music, engineering, and technology are a central part of our European heritage. The courage of the Russian people helped save western civilization during World War II. All countries have problems, and they need patriotic men and women of good will and integrity -like yourself - to help solve them. America and Russia have had their differences over the past century, but we are natural friends and allies. Let's hope we can put those differences behind us and live in peace.

I share your love of country. I have many similar feelings for that 'greatest generation' that preceded you and me. They came from much simpler lives than ours, and entered the greatest struggle the world has ever known. Thank you for sharing your family with us. We owe so much to so many who went on before, and many didn't return. The biggest days of thanksgiving for our nation are the 4th of July, 11th of November, and the greatest, Memorial Day, originally held on May 30, but now the last monday of May. Thanksgiving Day, of course belongs to thanking God that we can celebrate the other days as a free nation. On the other days we thank the men and women who gave of part or all of their lifes to preserve what God gave us. Thank you for the reminder!

This is a pretty convoluted message. Poorly structured, as my thoughts are scattered and I'm on my phone, not my computer. My mother, 1915-1956, had that same Blue Willow China pattern. I lost her when I was 8 years old. Lost my dad in 1968. I have a few pictures. Most of the mementos have been lost or stolen over the years. But your video today is a good reminder that people are more important than things. That America and her people or special! Thank you for sharing your history with your family. I half expected you to unfurl a flag with 48 stars on it! That would have been cool! But 50 stars is just fine! My dad served in World War II. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. My brother's got BB guns at five or six and 22's at 12. We girls got lessons in cooking and cleaning. That's just the way it was done then!
One more thing. Our father's generation, those who fought for our freedoms, will always be the greatest generation! But their prodigy, we baby boomers, will always be the second greatest generation! As I approach a benchmark birthday in September, I am grateful for having been born in the first half of the last century in United States of America! Oh! The things we have seen! God bless you and yours, Dr. Lee!

Dr. Lee, from one old-timer to another old timer you brought back some wonderful family memories. I have an uncle, well into his 90s, who was a bombadier/navigator on a B-17 in WWII who loved me as his son. He was and still is a flag hugger, a PROUD AMERICAN. Keep up with the wonderful stories Dr Lee. I/we enjoy each and every one of them. HAPPY FOURTH of JULY Sir.

I grew up within hollerin' distance of New York City, and from my earliest memories, I encountered all sorts of people. Some of them were literally "just off the boat", having come to America to make a better life for themselves and their families; they didn't speak English terribly well, and they ate strange foods and went to different "churches". (And some of them were people whose families had been here as long as mine, and I'm a Mayflower descendant.)
You're right about the one most important thing - LOVE. Love thy neighbor, even if she has an accent or his skin's not the same color as yours. Bring them a casserole or a batch of cookies when times are rough. Because, to me, the strength of America lies in its diversity - we've got red stripes, white stripes, blue sky, and white stars all together on one proud flag. Happy 4th of July!

Dr. Lee, you and I are about the same age. I had tears in my eyes listening to you tell your stories of your beloved uncle and auntie, goosebumps all over when you began speaking about what America truly is. You did a beautiful job of explaining the essence of what we are and what we need to become more of to remain this glorious country of America. We are so privileged to live in a country where we have the freedoms we have. And we owe so much to those that have sacrificed their health and even their lives to give us the rights we have. Thank you for your vlog today. Happy Independence Day to you and all of yours. Love you! BTW - absolutely LOVED your intro and outdo!

Dr. Lee -- I have watched all of your videos and sometimes I feel like we have lived parallel lives. Like your Uncles, my Dad was a WWII veteran AND my Dad was a radio man. I had a very special Auntie who was widowed very young with three small children and lived just three houses away from us. We were a poor family, but as children we didn't know that. I have my Auntie's thimbles and learned how to grow African violets from her. I love our country down to my bones and if only everyone could live by the simple credos you left us with...*well, I would sure have a lot more hope for our future. God bless America and may God bless you and your family.

Love the message of the people being the most important and loving each other being the way forward. I'm Canadian and we just had our 150th Canada Day and I really am focusing on protecting the rights and dignity of every person, encouraging diversity and loving every kind of person who lives in Canada. Our differences make us special and interesting but we all have a shared humanity and inherent human worth.

Dr. Lee, I’m real late to this channel, but on a cold November day in 2018, you touched my heart and reminded me how blessed we Americans are. I love listening to your story about your departed aunt and uncle and the love they shared with you. It’s true: WE are America. Thanks for sharing your life with us; you’d be amazed how many people you influence. God bless you.

As I listened to you today, I took my own walk back through memories by looking at the special items and remembering the traditions passed down through our families. Thank you for reminding us what's important. Love, family, respect, and compassion. I'll try harder and pitch in as well.

I'm not American, I'm Canadian, but I know the sentiment you feel. I feel that way about my country. I love the fact you didn't cut out the emotion you showed. Love your memories, love the way you presented them. Thank you for sharing that with us.

Thank you for the stories Dr Lee. I have been following you and Dr Matt for awhile now. I started following Vet Ranch first as a way to keep up y interest in Veterinary medicine and watch every video that gets uploaded. I was a Veterinary Technician when my son was KIA in Afghanistan as a Marine in October of 2010 and had to step away to father myself, my daughter has since just finished serving her 4 yrs in the Marine Corps as well and is currently attending college with a major of Veterinary Medicine in San Diego, we reside in Florida and have 3 remaining children at home and I completely agree with you about the state of our country and have tried to raise my children to appreciate what those who have come before have given of themselves to ensure our prosperity and Freedom. My Grandfather stormed the beaches of Omaha in France during WWII, my father served in Vietnam and is dying from Agent Orange related cancer, I have served in the USNavy myself and have a younger daughter being heavily sought after by the USAF and is currently the 2nd in command of her high school ROTC unit and this will be her 4th year in AFJROTC and we have a 13 yr old setting his sights on being a gunsmith someday. We're as American as you can be and proud, our flag flies every day and our sons Honor and Remember flag flies on every National Military related holiday with great pride. Our country is no longer what it was and it saddens me at the state it is in...keep the great nostalgic stories coming and you and Dr Matt do great work. God bless and I will make every effort to be better glue. I wish our younger generations had more pride in their country and our flag and what it symbolizes and honor for those who have fought for it and given their all and for those who stand at the ready to continue the fight. Loved the stories...took me back to a little of my own childhood.

Dr. Lee, I am a new listener to your channel. I do enjoy your videos. You speak from the heart and you are 'real'. I loved this presentation or whatever you want to call it, about the 4th of July and America. I, as do so many other Americans, have family from way back who have fought in the wars that were to keep us free -- to keep 'them'' from coming over here. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story of your Aunt and Uncle. Those memories are always so precious. I am very patriotic and I have always been, as long as I can recall. :) I am getting older now and I don't always recall things the way I used to could. You know, the things we get from our parents or other family members mean more to me than any amount of money they could have ever left me. My folks were not wealthy and we grew up 'poor' as did a lot of other sin that time. But, I am so thankful I learned what was truly valuable. The truly valuable things like the flag, the gun, and the dishes. Those things can never be replaced. I am also amazed that anyone had a set of dishes that they used all the time and they did not eventually get broken. Amazing. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us on the videos. Our youth could really use some of these values.

Your stories are one of the reasons why I keep coming back Dr. Lee.
I hope you had a Happy July 4th!
It is on days like this, one can celebrate history. It also reminds us of why traditions get carried on, and what we have to celebrate.
Australia Day means the same for me and other Aussies.

Thank you Dr Lee for a wonderful video. I'm British and pride in the flag is something that has gone by the wayside. You have to have permission to fly a flag in the UK which is totally crazy. How can young people have pride in something which is derided in our own country. I think it is wonderful that you and your family have so much respect for people, animals, veterans ... and I loved that you are passing it on through your generations. Your video brought a tear to my eye. Thanks again.!
