As a 28 yr old cop in Sunderland 1990 i went see an old couple who had their shed broken into. Over tea in their living room i remarked on a spitfire picture over the fire. "that was my plane in the war" he said. His wife was standing behind him and nodded smiling. I felt like saluting him because to my generation they were our heros. Ill never forget that day.
WootTootZoot I'm not joking when I say that a few tears may have dripped down my cheek. Something magnificent, this is. Old war hero taking to the air again, I wonder what he was thinking about during the flight.
I cried my eyes out thinking of all those that served so faithfully and courageously.Young people going into harms way to restore sanity to a world gone half mad. God bless u all. They didn't free Villages, they freed nations.Tally ho from me in Canada🇨🇦🇨🇦.
I watch that program when it came on TV years ago, unfortunately that man is dead now god bless his soul, what made me laugh is when he said" just how I remember it"and flow it like he stole it
me too,its pride i think,we take too much for granted these days and we forget about all these old boys (and girls ) who put their lives on the line for their country, God bless them all!!
Sir...you Won!!! I Pray that the generations never forget all that you sacrificed! You were the hope, the prayers of every sane human on the planet....there are no words of gratitude that I have.....the only words that come to me is bravery, honor, and Love.
why havent there been more RAF pilots from the battle of britain allowed to fly that special airplane . they saved us all. without them where would we hae deployed for normandy or the 8th helping to light some fires in germany . thanks to all of you from me 44years of age to the greatest generation of free people . loved this and the heartfelt stories ... simply in a word extaordinary
Really does bring the pride back to Britian!!! Thank you to all Men and Women what ever nationality , who fought and lost their lives for our freedom and World peace!!
look at the old boy. no nerves or worries, its as if he only stepped out of it yesterday. I bet he was damned handy back in the day. respect to you Sir.
You're right. He was instantly all business once again. God this video kills me. When the last line is said: "We were faced with something and , we did out best...and...We won." I pretty much had to leave the room so my wife wouldn't see me choke up.
Air Commodore Peter Malam 'Pete' Brothers, CBE, DSO, DFC & Bar 1917-2008 was a battle of Britain ace with 16 kills to his name RIP a true gentleman Peter Brothers
Sir Winston put it best: Never has so much been owed by so many to so few. All of us who live free today can point to them, and we must remember their sacrifice.
If ever one series belong on a dvd ..in Blue -Ray as well its this one . Wonderful and so well shot & edited ...great concept and the flying scenes are super. Thanks for posting . TCUNC76
I knew an WW2 Spitfire pilot, he was a friend of my fathers. As I have been interested in the second world war I loved talking to him. On a few occasions I managed to get him to talk about his flying and fighting, dogfights and shooting down the enemy. He admitted to a few kills but then said something that surprised me "I still have to meet my maker". It would have been the early 1980s and he still had thoughts of the lives he had taken in war. He was such a nice guy to have known, we cannot begin to understand what these men and woman went through.
He made that look like a walk in the park! What a great man, and what a great plane. I thought it was touching when he said the Spitfire was full of ghosts; "my old mates", bless him. I bet he'd kick ass in War Thunder flying a Spitz...I'm terrible in one! Cheers for uploading ;)
After nearly 70 years, my grandfather can still remember the startup sequence and most of the flight manual for the P-38. The only parts he's really hazy about... are the parts he flat-out ignored. They don't forget.
Pete Brothers and Bob Doe have become my hero's. Both strike me as pure English gentlemen. Years ago I had the good fortune to meet a Hurricane pilot who had to bale out of his burning machine. He rarely talked about it but was proud to say....'I'm the only one here with a certificate that says I'm sane!' Another gentleman.
literally chocked up! tears running down my face! My godfather and grandfather both served in RAF at different times. Just amazing memories flooding back!
See the satisfaction on his face when he says : "I have control". I'm deadly jealous of this crazy old guy. All I wish to myself is to be able to still fly in his age!
Even adapted to being a 2-seater, this the most beautiful, elegant, sexy airplane of all time. As a kid, I lived next to Spitfire repair facility in Oxford and spent hours with my nose though the fence. It was my dream to grow up and fly one but that was never to be. Probably a good thing.
While I am watching this Spitfire flying, I can imagine this veteran, Peter Brothers inside the cockpit, at the controls again after so many years, just as a R.A.F pilot again, enjoying to fly, and forever young,
I had the honour of meeting one of these great men, Geoffrey Wellum at his local pub in Mulion, Cornwall. A true gentleman and a hero. Fabulous video. Never forget!
Thankyou you have just brought a grown man into tears, to see that amazing man pull a victory roll filled me with utmost pride and sadness for what these brave few did for the freedom we live today, From the deepest part of my hardened heart God bless and thankyou to all of the men and woman in question and Caroline your amazing next time your in Shoreham please look me up. best wishes to all.
Pure Pilot instinct! During the roll I noticed him looking at his instruments, scanning throughout the roll and keeping a good lookout! Amazing! He looked easily at home after 70 years, I can only dream to fly a machine as gracefully as this Man! A very very good Pilot, mad respect Sir from New Zealand!
Respect to Pete Brothers! I wish my Grandfather had a chance to experience this. He flew Mk. IX and Mk. XVs for the RAF from mid 44 onwards, in 308 and 302 (Polish) squadrons. He was - and still is - my absolute hero and it makes me so sad that he had such a hard life after the war, being prosecuted by communists for coming back to Poland from the UK... You see, you had your freedom,, but my Granddad came back to an enslaved country and didn't live long enough to see the Russians leave in 1989.
War is stupid, as are the people who blindly follow tyrants who send them into battle. Bless this man, and all who served with him to protect freedom from tyranny.
Thank you Allies...Thank you 🇬🇧..Thank you 🇺🇸.....and yes Thank you 🇨🇦....and last but not least...Thank you 🇷🇺 for beating the Axis!!!! We would not be here if not for you and the all the Great Servicemen and Service Women!!!
Live your life to the fullest memories will be all your left with when your old and gray, I feel happy for this man i can allmost cry, he gotten the chances to relive them deserving lee so
i actually got a shiver down my spine while he was flying.. what a great man he is o7 and amazing work on those pilots for giving these guys a chance to fly again in such a beloved machine by these men, they flew them to hell and the planes brought them back.. thats a bond you cant get elsewhere.. ask them about the plane they flew and every man will tell you its the greatest plane there is.. my grandfather included, for him it was the T-6 Texan, he flew it over Guinea-Bissau in our Colonial War at age 17-21..
th "the few" as bob doe said ...they deserve all the respect you can give them, very brave men and we owe our livelyhood and probably our lives to them never before or since has such an unselfish sacrifice been made ....we must remember that
His face at 0:33...... you just know he's back 60 years, ready to do it all again. God bless these guys, if the need ever arises I just hope this generation can stand up the way they did
Pete taking control was a lovely moment. I'd love the chance to fly in a Spitfire, but he earned his place in that aeroplane and deserved every moment of that flight. I can't imagine that as a grandparent or great grandparent, as he must be now, that I will ever have anything like his story to tell. God bless him and all those who flew for the RAF through the war.
Pilot Carolyn Grace lost her life to a car accident in December 2022. RIP to her and I hope she's joined her pilot husband and the lost vets to fly the Spitfire eternally in the afterlife.
Truly amazing. We owe everything to the brave pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain. The spitfire has to be the most beautiful aircraft ever made.
I rented a room above a flower shop in 1989. I saw a pic of a Spitfire on the wall and yes, the flowershop owner had been a Spitfire pilot.
I keep watching this. What a man.
Rest in peace Carolyn Grace. You gave these great men and women the opportunity to fly in these beautiful aeroplanes one last time.
Sadly, Pete Brothers died on 18 December 2008. To him and his comrades, we owe everything we have. They will never be forgotten.
Rip sir
"You have control"? .....* "I Have Control"* ... *You got that GOD DAMN RIGHT*
Shit like this can make a grown man cry
Bill Paxton ikr😢

Merci!!! you saved Europe.....from slavery! LOVE YOU....hard to say for a french!!!
Just to see the look on his face is pure magic . thank you
Did you see in his eyes, looking around, checking the instruments, preparing for the next manoeuvre, splendid video and many thanks to 'The Few'.

His red badge of courage! That man was flying that bird like He was a young man again.
I watch that program when it came on TV years ago, unfortunately that man is dead now god bless his soul, what made me laugh is when he said" just how I remember it"and flow it like he stole it
RIP old soul. It was Your finest hour indeed.
young mind, still flying, in an old body and plane, a true hero. Love to watch his skills.

Brings tears to your eyes when Pete takes control again after all those years.
How cool that this gentleman had the opportunity to fly it once more. Blue skies to Peter Brothers.

I owe my freedom to gentlemen like Bob. The lads and lasses of WW2, we will Remember them, we will Remember them.
Spitfire ever so graceful. That merlin v12 growl backed by music piece “cherished obsession” by hughes, very emotional brings tears to my eyes.
Respect to all those elders who kept us free..!
you are very delusional with a comment like that
I am English and Lithuanian
i'm not delusional with a comment like this this. fuck off back to Lithuania, you wanker.@@desdicado999
Call_Me_Mad amen to,that heros

A very steadfast and resilient people who've had to put up with wars that they themselves couldn't have asked for.
I have tears in my eyes everytime I watch this.
Im goin g to watch it again !
As a British person I owe everything I have to this man and his mates. RIP you true hero.
Absolutely amazing to see this hero flying above Brittany's sky's again.
Britanny is in France ... this was Britain ...
Full of ghosts those airplanes were. My old mates...
I cried more than I'm willing to admit
old man, still hero.. iam proud of you!
I love it when he rolls the plane and he does a little bounce in his seat, underated excitement i would say.
One word! Poetic.👌
You never forget how to ride a bike they say. I guess its the same for a spitfire. Much respect.
Verry Big Respect from belgium !
That generation defended our country to protect our culture, freedoms and way of life for future generations.
Our generation gave it all away.

Beautiful plane, great flight!! Only a few hundred WW2 pilots still alive and my Grandpa at 95 is one of those hero's, my hero....
Yeh, Quite possibly Teddy!!
Quite a few less, yes. But if I remember correctly, you'll find a lot more of them from Russia, Germany, the Levant (Lebanon, Syria) and Japan.
Sir...... You are then from a bloodline that the rest of us are eternally indebted to. . .
Every time I see a spitfire I get so emotional 😭 rip grandad 🌹💔
I've read words that Peter put on paper in a few books. Seeing the man take control is just brilliant.
This brought a tear to my eye!
Thank you for my freedom all the heroes, especially the ones that paid the ultimate price.
It's possible to go up in a 2 seater, not cheap but worth it. Hopefully you have done in the 5 years since you commented.
this brought a smile to my face RIP PETE AND ALL THOSE WHO THOUGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY

an old pilot never forgets how to fly or should i say AVIATE there is a difference, god bless them all!
the most beautiful machine ever made imho with a soundtrack to match
Beautiful little bird of the air. No other aircraft is so at home in its element of the sky as the Spitfire.
Stephen Bungay deserves great credit for the very moving way in which he describes the pilots of Fighter Command.
I had the honour of meeting one of these great men, Geoffrey Wellum at his local pub in Mulion, Cornwall. A true gentleman and a hero.
Fabulous video.
Never forget!
God Bless that People and Pilots that made this happen !
