- Series 11 Episode 6 - Brilliant opening to the "Britain v Germany" Challenge - classic Top Gear!!
The Music is the classic "The Battle of Britain" Theme by Ron Goodwin, from the film of the same name Развлечения
This is almost as good as sending a Police truck to pick up the Aussie Top Gear guys from the air port.
*better, for struthid sake it has a spitfire!
It's better spitfires and a db5
@@joshuadebole6114 it’s a db6
I honestly think this one is better but their both amazing
I couldn't stop laughing when they picked them up in a prison van i almost pissed myself i was laughing so hard
The best part is the Luftwaffe March plays when the germans arrived
Yep, if you know the film then this whole bit is just perfect
@Joe bloggs yes but it was composed to be played when the luftwaffe were on screen so it's not nothing to do with them, they still play it for them now
@Joe bloggs it's rather explicitly the Luftwaffe theme in the movie.
@Joe bloggs dude, chill out, and go rewatch the film. I know it's called aces high, but even in the freaking commentary is referred to as the Luftwaffe march or theme. It's rather explicitly their leitmotif.
I believe they used the German national anthem in the actual episode
Producer: "You're representing the BBC. You can't just turn up and go on about the war."
*Arriving in Spitfires with Battle of Britain tune*
As a half-German, this is awesome. The Spitfire is one of the prettiest airplanes ever made.
I may be a bit biased but I also think the Spitfire is a beautiful aircraft. it does not look like a killing machine.
You know the Spitfire was developed by the Royal Air Force right?
@@BirkinIdk It was developed by Supermarine.
If your opponent arrives in a Spitfire,
you have lost.
It’s either loose the race or get stir at from the skies
'You can't just turn up and go on about the war' *James May smiling maliciously*
Me: 'Holy shit, this is going to be good.'
"don't mention the war"
James May: :D
#faultytowers
I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it alright.
Proceeds to mention the war non-stop
0:23 I love how casual Jeremy is.
"Obviously we needed somewhere to stage this."
"Ah, yes, and I suggested in the skies above southern England."
And also May, "Belgium, which is country invented so that Britain and Germany would have somewhere to sort out their differences".
Pandu Widagdo lol you right. Also the smile James gives after Richard says "about the war."

Germans when they hear a Merlin engine flying over their heads:

@@MausOfTheHouse when you say us Brits are like "here we go again". Do you mean winning? Hahaha
@@OrionsWarriorUK yes I do.
@@MausOfTheHouse off to the Bomb shelter we go!
WW2 ended in 1945 so it's been over 75 years of German people or any people in fact NOT looking up at Spitfires. Great majority of people who actually seen Spitfires doing their things are dead and young people look down to their phones. Even as a joke it doesn't work. Merlin engine is a legend today but back then it was just a tool to kill poeple. And not the only one. Quit being one of those people who say "we won the war", you didn't even exist at that time.
Sabine: so sad to hear of her passing. Still remember her driving a van around the Nürburgring.
Oh no. What happened to her?

As a German i have to say this point goes to Britain.
I remember watching this when it first came out. When they cut to the spitfires, I Jumped out of my chair and burst into a laughing cheer.
I love the German presenters for playing along with this. Good sports!
It's honestly amazing they weren't "oFfEndEd" 😆 really good show from them, big respect 👍
Lol. They literally knew this would happen. Sabine knows jeremy.
i mean, the uk is a 3rd tier country these days. let them have their jollies.
@@aredub1847 why are you a dickhead?
Someone at some uncertain time in some uncertain BBC planning department office looked at their colleagues and said: "why don't we have them arrive in spitfires?" And I hope that person got a raise.
Same
J M ngl that’s a lot of cringe you’ve gone with there. If half of all your whining about the “Marxist” (lol) BBC was true they’d never have green lit this. You do realise they actually produced this right?
RIP Sabine Schmitz
May she rest in peace 😣
Such a loss...
Come on Biggles Come on Algy ....absolutely just phenomenal references to Capt W E Johns and that lovely inspiring music from The Battle of Britain. This just has to be the best grand entrance ever.
The sound of those Merlins send shivers up my spine!!!!
Perhaps second only to the Rolls Royce Olympus engines of the Vulcan
"we're on our own, we're playing for time, and it's running out!"
Rip Sabine
The 'Invasion Stripes' on the wings are the icing on the cake :-D
It wouldn't be surprising James was excited about this because he has engaged the Germans many times especially as Squad Leader of No. 55 Squadron RAF or the Hammersmith Cockerspaniels Squadron during World War II and yes, he did defeat the legendary but mostly idiotic commander of the Luftwaffe's Gorilla Regiment Generalfeldmarschall Jeremy von Clarkson in the North Africa campaign.
And he won the Victoria Cross after the war.
then he introduced Princess Anne to a Reliant Scimitar
"We're on our own. We've been playing for time. And it's running out!"
I don't care what anybody says, that's one of the greatest entrances of all time.
Meanwhile on the ground, "Ach Scheiße, Jetzt geht es wieder los"
"Don't mention the war"

Flying a spitfire with the Battle of Britain theme playing is one of the few ways of meeting a German
Other options include "flying a Lancaster with a strange barrel attatched while playing the dambusters theme" or "flying a mosquito while playing the 633 squadron theme"

How about riding in on the cupola of a Sherman?

I miss Sabine. I liked her when she was on Top Gear. She was so much nicer than I was expecting her to be.
She was an extraordinary person. She will be missed and remembered forever
The beautiful Sabine, very sadly missed RIP
Spitfires to the theme from Battle of Britain, epic, but yeah, the forever Queen of the Nürburgring is what really made my eyes get a little misty.
They should put a statue of her in the Nurburgring
@@ZACKMAN2007 you are not wrong, she was amazing, so much fun and always smiling and cheerful. I miss her
This is the class this show had. To turn up anywhere in three spits is just pure class. Awesome entrance.
I can imagine the Germans thinking when they saw the Spits coming in was "Oh no, not again..."
The Germans spotting the invasion markings: "Ah scheiße!!"
They were probably rather sad they didn't bring their 88's 😅
If we had known we would have brought our ME262, just for the sake of having fun.
This is beautifully produced and with great style and humour as well. The cues and analogies drawn are absolutely fantastic. Well done old TopGear....but the show is OWNED by Clarkson, May and Hammond. No one comes close to these three rascally, irreverent yet extremely likeable fellows.
Like how Jeremy went in for the greeting kisses with the Nuburgring woman, then May went in to do the same, but she rejected it and saluted xD
This one never gets old.
uploaded from 2010 yet people are still watching this and commenting on it. everyone sure does miss old top gear
Upstaging the Germans will never grow old!
Pray to the channel !!!

There is no sound on this world that can beat the " symphony " of that V12 Rolls-Royce Merlin.
TheAquarius1978 damn right
I love how Clarkson's Spit has a larger canopy. To better fit his brilliance, of course.
😂🤣
To fit him, because he's fat, not tall.
The skies over southern England.... That is good quality
1:06 Sabine (god rest her soul, what a sport she was) I could shut my eyes listen to her words and see her as the elegant blond haired senior German pilot in the Battle of Britain where they sit down for a grand meal and toast their skills and fallen colleagues.
Adding the music from the movie The Battle of Britain, was a great touch to this.
Good to see at least one of those Spitfires had invasion stripes.
Happy to see a Canadian maple leaf on it too
why?
Why what the leaf? Because Canada flew spitfires We also built the Lancaster and Mosquito fighter / bomber and sent them and Food First aid Ammo Rubber Metal and Troops and other resoruces over sea with are own ships and men of the Navy while under fire from German U-boats both ways while bring back Old, Sick, Wounded POWs Young, Women from England. We were the first to clear are missions In Normandy at a high price facing the best of the enemy mixed in with German tanks
We were the first to have Native Code Talkers As my grandfather spoke Cree French and English and was apart of the D-day landings As his great great great great great grandfather done with King william and the Normans in 1066 or His great grandfather done with the Vikings and the attack on france......Or in short to Honor the past
Because the Canadians in WWII were damn good pilots, that's why.

HiiighAsAKite Battle of Britain is the best British movie about the War. period
I don't know how much money or unnecessary red tape it cost the BBC to put that together. It was worth it. The Ron Goodwin piece playing couldn't have been more perfect. Tally-Ho Gents!

I just love how Captain slow has that grin
This made me feel patriotic and I’m not even British

It makes me feel embarrassed to be British. We’re obsessed with a war that ended 75 years ago where we played second fiddle to the Russians and Americans
@@James-jl4jt : Well , Clarkson wanted to settle it in the skies over southern England , so I believe they are aiming at the battle of Britain , even though the Spitfires have D-day markings. THAT was one of Britains finest hours.

gmctech still british made
Hahahaha the looks on the Germans faces when they flew over 😂😂😂 "not again"
Except they probably didn’t even fly over. Notice how there is never a direct shot with the Germans and planes together you never see both at the same time. Those spitfires are based in the uk and are 70 years old. I doubt they flew those planes to Belgium. I suspect the plane bit was shot in the uk and then they asked the Germans to pretend the planes were there and edit it together.
