heck jeah :D hope its bush crafty :D you got me even more hooked on military surplus since its so cheap and durable, of course you toss everything in the corner right after finishing ur military carreer but now i love it all again since its fun and goot food instead of stupid loads of heavy bulky operational needed equipment :D
TheOutdoorGearReview I forgot about this pack.........sorry. You did a video on the old-school Swedish military pack, is it heavier than those packs? I have the large Swedish pack.
Hey guys..what's up Luke excellent work on the reviews...was wondering if you knew how to adjust the aluminum stays that are visible when you open the sleep compartment...please message me back if you have any info..thanks..bless
I've had this pack for several years. It is my long-term bug out. Haven't done much hiking but getting back to the outdoor life oh, so it's about to get aired out repacked and get dusty! very nice review. Thank you for the content
I have some experience with weight (77 lbs) for about a solid month day in and day out and let me tell you there is no such thing as comfort with anything over 40 lbs it's just varies in degrees of pain. On a side note the channel is king when it comes to diversity of gear i like that you check out both civilian and military gear and things that are on the US market and things that are more used in Europe. Keep it up !
How true. I can see how in just a short time this would wear you down... Day in and day out. Holy hell !! But, perhaps NOT so bad for an Overnight for the mighty & Young... lol. As for me, I look for a ride to the bathroom... lol Peace Lew, Be safe & God bless.
I still have nightmares of my pack, as a medic I had even more to carry than most. It made a man out of me and my back and shoulders still scream at me for that creation!
1:57 " I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it."
Loved that pack! My woodland camo version got jacked from my camper a half dozen years ago. Still bummed. Heavy; yes. Complicated; not really. Adjustability like you could not imagine; yes! Comfortable; oh, oh so comfortable! :-)
It is a package only to disembark where you carry your complete military equipment which is very heavy and bulky, you only charge it to a nearby target. Then you take it off or change it to a smaller and more comfortable package for attack, reconnaissance, etc. In civil life, it does not help much since most of us do bone trips. I think that such a package would not even serve to evacuate for long periods, because if you carry everything you need the package would be so heavy that you would not walk 2 km with it on top of it. Equally very good review Luke, a package with history.
I was issued in of these and I have to say, being accustomed to humping heavy weight, it does ride rather well. The mess of straps was and way fix, tape up or trim off what isn’t necessary as we did. On the note of weight, anything over 40 pounds just sucks regardless over any long distances. The only variable is how much it sucks on a pain scale. Love the reviews. Cheers.
This pack is so awesome, yes it's heavy but it's super comfortable. I rucked with it weighting 35 kilograms and at the end of the day my shoulder was fine. I have full kit, and I'm that guy who takes everything you need and then some on a hike, but even I couldn't fully load entire system. This system is 9 out of 10, just because it weights a lot. Talking about comfort for me it is equally good or even better then Kifaru fulcrum.
Luke i have an REi Traverse rising star framm pack, i've had that bag no joke for 20 years and the only thing i have ever needed to fix was the shock cord netting on the outside for sleeping pads and such. For the price i paid for it i can honestly say it would fall under the bomb proof category. 100% waterfroof and it has no rain cover what so ever. I think it was 190 cubic inches.
I have a UM21 side pouch woodland camo piece that has the Gregory label, which led me to find out more about it so here we are, cool! - wow the UM21 is a surprise to see what it is - I found the camo pouch at a thrift store for $5
I think it is because by the time this pack is made camo/tan color webbing is hardly available, this pack first exists in the early dawn of the MOLLE era.
WOW, that thing is a BEAST !!! But, I Love it ! lolol Hi Luke, just stopped in for a coffee. You always bring the coolest stuff. Looks big enough to put in a small motor to carry ME !!! lol I always enjoy your company, be safe. Peace
Great review, very interesting, I love the way you give history and the story behind why some gear was made the way it was. Rabidly anticipating this weeks adventure video coming out Friday. Thanks Luke.
I like it. But as s big, expandable Backpack system I still prefer the Warhammer by Eberlestock! In my opinion one of the best if not the best in its class!
I heard of these never seen very good review. I have a Molle 2 woodland camo pack and i thought it had a lot of straps. That pack is winner. I have also have the 3 Day military pack which attaches to my Molle. The 3 day pack I actually use more then the Molle unless I carry a lot of stuff which most I really probably didn't need. Good reviews thanks.
its the united states military if its not complicated or heavy and dont forget expensive they dont wnt it surprised this pack isnt still used another example is the marine corp ilbe and ilbe gen2
They look complicated but are not. I just bought one and can say that at least 65 to 70 percent of the straps are for adjustment . Once adjusted to you you never touch them again. As for weight I can't notice it much , but then again I haven't gone anywhere with it yet.
I was issued the woodland system on my last maritime ops team. Hated using it with the sea kayaks. Had my skies/snow shoes straps on the outside during winter warfare exercises in the German Alps. I agree on your assessment of it being heavy but comfortable. I hated it as being over complicated and went back to my large ALICE ruck. That large ALICE I carried 150 lbs in one during GW1.
Pack weighing 10 pounds +, I am looking to keep my pack less than 5 for now, I have not been in the bush for nearly a year due to back and left leg injury. Hoping to get my kayak in the water soon.
Great video, as usual. Looks like a hybrid between the army's Mollee pack and the corp's ILBE pack. Black straps on 3 color desert... obviously rush to production straight out of proto-type phase. :D
Love the um21, once you have it tuned in for you, police your straps and forget them. Have had mine almost 17 years That desert camo looks hideous with black straps
I'm guessing you make Lucas pack this one?😆😜😂 This would be the perfect pack for Hafpor Björnsson (The Mountain or Gregor Clegane on Game Of Thrones and currant World's Strongest Man). You might need bigger shoulder straps though. Aside of that commentary 😂😂 great review. I don't like carrying 17 lb of gear let alone a pack that weighs as much lol but I enjoyed your presentation. Thorough and concise as ever. Thank you.
Would love to see how you kit out one of these bags for a 3 day hike. I'm only a novice hiker, but notice when the bag is filled out a lot of the outside pockets become useless or 'squeek' when I've added water bottles etc.
If you strip it down to the pack itself its no heavier than a Mystery Ranch 6500. The straps are over the top, but the bag is bomb proof. You just need to pull off all the extra BS.
The "Canyonero" of MilSurp packs...with a bonus target box drawn on your back to make finding center mass easier. If you take off most of those straps, I think you might get it down to around 15# base weight. No thanks. 🤣 #StillTeamILBE
So I happen to own one of these systems, the woodland camo one, with patrol pack, and the fannypack is in desert camo. Came with 5 compression bags,(2 long ones for patrol pack, 2 big ones for rucksack, 1 for daypack) 4 strappacks of various sizes, 2 desert camo waterproof coverings for rucksack and patrol pack. And a booklet that I lost, but I bought it at the San Diego swap meet about 10 years Ago for $200.00!!!used about 10 times, Used it a few months ago and still feels new. Idk how much weight I put in it... it was a lot, plus we were alternating carrying the bear can and a bunch of beers but it makes it easy! I didn't use the patrol pack but apparently it can be attached??? Idk how to do this. If anyone knows, share the knowledge please!
ahahaha funny pack thou glad i hadnt had to serve with it but lmao ... Haul haul haul haul !!!! Glamping brother haha heck jeah i love my belgium m97 120L pack its very similar to the berhgaus atlas so you can get the both 10l side zipper pouches to a daypack and i payed only 60 bucks for it in good used condition =) hehe wanna see a bushcraft / military surplus overnight with this !!! lets go luke ! :D load it to your personal max and have a good one in the woods ! best wishes from germany, retired special airmann, Luftwaffe /// =)
Hi I'm Richard leek I would like. To here what u would say would be the best winter pack that the mss sleep s will go in side thank please let me know what you think
Does the Mule come with this Pack Lol 😂 😂 I wish I would have had a Mule back when I was in the Marine Corp Lol 😂 😂 It's a Beast Definitely..$$$$ Crazy ..
I bet the sleeve in that front compression flap would be good for a sheet of bulletproof matterial.. That way if someone shoots you in the back your good
That poor donkey.....
Overnight Adventure on Friday! - Luke

A CLASSIC !!! Very cool. Clint would be proud ! Peace
😂
I got my Gregory back in 1998 and I still have it

That would be a nice pack. . . . . to leave in your vehicle as a trunk organizer.
LOL
Yup. That's ridiculous. Great for transporting and compressing sauna rocks. :D
its the best bag i have,i had to cut the beaver tail off and the internal divide [saves a lot of weight] but its bomb proof good review as always mate
USGI packs have come A LONG way since the late 90's. I've got a FILBE system (looks like it has UM21 roots) and absolutely love it
ILBE is the best US military issed pack so far but I wanna feel this one on my body, too!
@scorpiooooh I like ALICE packs, too. I even got 3 of em, large, medium and small-woodland camo. They are all modified for my needs.
@Isomatte Go ahead!
Luke i have an REi Traverse rising star framm pack, i've had that bag no joke for 20 years and the only thing i have ever needed to fix was the shock cord netting on the outside for sleeping pads and such. If the backpack is in camouflage colors, what sense make the straight-line, black cords that stand out unnaturally on the camouflage backpack? 😨
Military Intelligence... lol
I think it is because by the time this pack is made camo/tan color webbing is hardly available, this pack first exists in the early dawn of the MOLLE era.
I still have the one I was issued. It's a tank.
@@jdcpac Thank you for your support!
Is that you Joe Tetti????
And I thought my kelty falcon 4000 was big .but I still love it . tanks for your videos kim
WOW, that thing is a BEAST !!! But, I Love it ! lolol Hi Luke, just stopped in for a coffee. You always bring the coolest stuff. Looks big enough to put in a small motor to carry ME !!! lol I always enjoy your company, be safe. Peace

Cool hand Luke wearing shorts we're wearing winter jackets up here hahaha ATB from the Yellowknife
Wow an old Stapmaster 2000, been years!
So, do you recommend this pack for ultra-light thru hikers? (just kidding!)
The bag can easily compress and carry three normal ultra-light thru hikers.
Lou Eckert it’s ultra light for the hulk.
Lmao
I heard of these never seen very good review. I have a Molle 2 woodland camo pack and i thought it had a lot of straps. That pack is winner. Ok the only question I have. WHY
This packs looks more difficult than it needs to be. Too heavy, way too expensive, and too complicated to figure out
its the united states military if its not complicated or heavy and dont forget expensive they dont wnt it surprised this pack isnt still used
another example is the marine corp ilbe and ilbe gen2

Good review. Intresting to understand how current packs have evolved and where their features come from.
That large ALICE I carried 150 lbs in one during GW1.
i love mine, yes its heavy, i took the beaver tail thingy off and a lot of the strapping, its bomb proof
Dana Design Terraplane. Just 3.2 kg. ;) There are still used versions for sale to find. Extremely comfortable hauler that will last a lifetime.
Thank you Luke😺
There’s a desert camo pack right now on eBay for $260
Remember seeing them in U.S. Cav back in the 90s.
Pack weighing 10 pounds +, I am looking to keep my pack less than 5 for now, I have not been in the bush for nearly a year due to back and left leg injury. Hoping to get my kayak in the water soon.

That desert camo looks hideous with black straps
Really? I think it looks cool
I love Gregory backpacks
There is also a green and CADPAT version of this pack for Canada.
I'm pretty sure my 75+10 liter backpack would fit in the main compartment. (fully loaded)!
i am the proud owner of one used it once, its too narrow/to heavy[even after cutting a boatload of straps off] i now use a granite gear patrol pack
Bought a woodland version today an auction for $22.00.......Though, I haven't and I'm scared to see the shipping bill.
Flying spaghetti monster
Yes?
I'm guessing you make Lucas pack this one?😆😜😂

You need to get your hands on the Stone Glacier line of packs for reviews...maybe even check out their new tent
Good video and review but I’ll keep my Alice.
Would love to see how you kit out one of these bags for a 3 day hike. I'm only a novice hiker, but notice when the bag is filled out a lot of the outside pockets become useless or 'squeek' when I've added water bottles etc.
I hv 2 large Alice pack's, but thanks Alice is heavy nuff !!..👍..
Nice pack. Over engineerd for me I like the FILBE
When you are an Aidman though, you need that extra room to carry team med supplies.
Nice pack!
Have you done a review of the Eberlestock G4 Operator/Terminator? I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on that as well as the Wisport Reindeer.
If you strip it down to the pack itself its no heavier than a Mystery Ranch 6500. The straps are over the top, but the bag is bomb proof. You just need to pull off all the extra BS.

The ILBE main pack might have that thing beat for number of straps!
Hey I was issued one of those back in the day!
Gregory makes good stuff but really heavy! I have a Baltoro 65.
The ILBE is too heavy for me now. This one's in the same category. Time to upgrade to ultralight for old Johnnie.
Welcome to my world... lol My pack is of a bag of doritos now.. Be safe. Peace
.good review. only pack what you need, and if you need lots of equip.and you can carry it, i can see this pack being put to good use..
its a great bag i cut all of the surplus straps off and that dozy arse seat thingy
So I happen to own one of these systems, the woodland camo one, with patrol pack, and the fannypack is in desert camo. Good Gawd! I thought my ILBE was a beast!
Hi I'm Richard leek I would like. To here what u would say would be the best winter pack that the mss sleep s will go in side thank please let me know what you think
No running and gunning with that on your back. Hope they never had any SAW gunners hoofin that around. The sit pad looked like a bulletproof shield.
Does the Mule come with this Pack Lol 😂 😂 I wish I would have had a Mule back when I was in the Marine Corp Lol 😂 😂 It's a Beast Definitely..$$$$ Crazy ..
I think it could use more straps.
Here and i thought my MALICE pack was a beast....WOW...
I bet the sleeve in that front compression flap would be good for a sheet of bulletproof matterial.. That way if someone shoots you in the back your good
The flap at @2:55
Were
I have 3 um21
The green
The desert
And the black.
Yup there is um21 in a black color
I don't understand why manufacture destroyed desert camouflage by adding black "ugly" stripes - it doesn't make sense if it was military bag.
I want one...!!!
Cool Video !
The Teton Sports Fox 5200 would give it a run for its money in the strap dept. XD i own it lol.
dang im glad i got mine for $80
Cool, we need good back packs n we need to know how BIG.
Wow! that pack is for giants that King David fought back in the Old Testament. LOL!
Nuts.
What's the price 4 one now nice
Very intresting pack. Could you compare it with ILBE?
Gregory took their "Denali Pro" and put it on steroids.
Is there a place for your 7.62×51 rifle?
I prefer my Flextrek 37 Trillion Whipsnake Edition.
Great INCH BAG...........
This gonna be for sale on your gear clearance?
Way cool
Weird that they couldn't be bothered to find some tan straps and fabric instead of black.
Nice pack but toooooo heavy and tooooo complicated for practical multiday trips
shared
No offense a Desert Camo bag with black straps...at least use brown
I hope varnustelika sells it😊
That's Cousin IT
granite gear patrol pack has any one got one?,has anyone got a view on it?
Ridiculously heavy and complicated. I can't believe Gregory designed and sold this beast.
Another sale on line
No wheels?
Its a beast of a pack, maybe if I was going to war lol. For leisure maybe not
My Ilbe recon has more molle than that does.
I was expecting to see Luke come jumping out of that pack lol
It's awsome and maybe too much for me lol.
Looks like an Awsome bag but to many straps
