  • Why is my pelvic floor worse after doing prescribed kegels? How do I tackle tightness to start strengthening? ⁣

I would say about 50% of the women I see have pelvic floor tightness and kegels actually make them worse! When they do kegels they end up increasing symptoms and tightness and this can be very frustrating when trying to recover. ⁣

Contracting the pelvic floor can be great for strengthening but only if the pelvic floor is ready for it. If you have a tight pelvic floor, working on relaxing and releasing the pelvic floor and getting that tightness to calm down is very important before working on strengthening. You cannot strengthen a muscle that cannot relax and is constantly in a shortened state.⁣
