I just ordered some items for holiday gifts from today's sponsor, Rada Kitchen! They're offering 10% off your order when you use the code MINDY10 at checkout: radakitchenstore.com
Share the cooking tasks! That’s my best tip. We’re having a large friends party next week and we are all making crockpot soups and bringing one side. We’ll be feeding 15 people and it isn’t going to be as stressful because we are sharing the work 😊
My SIL is doing a pasta bar for our family party on Christmas Eve. I'm going to make a pot of homemade sauce and meatballs and she'll have some cooked sausage and chicken plus marinara and Alfredo sauce. Then she'll assign out garlic bread and salad to other family members. Easy peasy! 🍝😁
Lol I can appreciate your rant about not having the right pans. My husband and I got married in peak-COVID mode. We did a weekend at a large lake house with 15 family members. The place was missing a lot of the basic kitchen items (and a full length mirror so I could see myself in my dress), but we lucked out and the property manager actually went to Walmart with a list of what was missing!
We have cooked several times for 35-50 people. Work like a buffet or Moes and put the meat further down the line. Taco bar? Closest to the plates, put your rice, then beans, THEN meats and other toppings. Same for potato bars.
I’ve never seen anyone else make that snickers apple salad! It’s always a crowd pleaser when I make it😊 I use a French vanilla pudding mix and a butterscotch pudding mix. But I have never added the caramel sauce but am going to have to try that!
We always stay in vacation rentals when we go away. We always cook for many people in them. I will write a note to the host before I book a property to ask if they have certain appliances and cooking equipment available. I also ask what food items will be provided , if any. 4:40 Most of the time, they are happy to accommodate. If they don't have it, at least I know and can bring it from home. I always bring my own chef's knife because those are always terrible. We once got to a property and there was no salt or pepper. I messaged the host and she brought some over right away. It always helps to ask if you need something so you know what to expect.
Mindy, I recently (last few months?) discovered your channel, and you instantly became my favorite RUclipsr. You're absolutely not old enough to be my mom, but you are teaching me the things I wish my mom had taught me about cooking growing up. Plus, I'm a high school English teacher who almost became a high school choir teacher, SO I love your content just that much more. Thank you for all you do!
We stayed at a hotel in Texas for a wedding. We made a brunch for 100 people between 3 hotel room kitchens. We got real creative, the only thing we couldn’t find was a vegetable peeler. I ran downstairs and borrowed one from the breakfast kitchen. We serve it all at my sons house. Turned out perfect. If there’s a will there is a way! Was really a fun time!
A salad/potatoe bar is one of my favorites. My mom used to have this about once a month when we were kids. I couldn't imagine doing this multiple times, though. God bless you.
I totally agree with the bar style for big crowds. It puts people at ease as they can choose how much or little of something they want. Not to mention its easier on the cook. These are really great ideas. Thanks!
I got married in 1986 and for a shower present my soon to be sister in law gave me a 3 piece paring knife set that my brother in law's lodge was selling for a fundraiser. 36 years later I am still using my original 3 parers and have purchased the balance of the set! These are the best knives ever!
Im a California native who lived in Texas and now Washington. I didn't love living in Texas, however they have the best avocados in South Texas. I was shocked at the sheer size of them compared to californias. And they were way cheaper too. I think guacamole recipes vary from family to family. Usually im the one who gets constant requests to make it haha. I use Avocado with lemon or lime juice depending on who is coming. I have a brother in law who loves lime. The rest love lemon. Then I dice jalapeño. Red onion, cherry tomatoes, garlic, and add salt , pepper, a pinch of cayenne, garlic powder and onion powder. Sometimes I add chives. But its always yummy. The crunch of the red onion is the best for me.
Such great tips and tricks. I have some friends who often will do a VRBO for family get togethers and they do cook a lot but boy that kitchen was challenging. I wonder if previous guests may be brought older kitchen appliances that they didn't really need or spares and just left them and that is how you ended up with so many coffee pots and blenders but yet no crock pot or mixer. I would feel odd as a host not leaving the kitchen at least reasonably stocked. I'm not necessarily saying you have to leave a full pantry but at least enough cooking vessels and utensils for things that most people may need to cook for large crowds. A Crock-Pot seems like just a no-brainer. I'm not saying they have to have a fancy instant pot or a real high-end blender but geez a decent crock pot is like $30, so I was a little surprised when you said there wasn't one available. I guess next time if they don't show good pictures of what's in the kitchen maybe each of you could take a particular item and pack it in your car to bring along in case it's needed (for those driving). I'm sure it would have been much easier for you to cook having had a crock pot or some more/better/larger cooking vessels. Anyway it looks like you managed to have a wonderful time and nobody starved so that's the important thing Mindy! Thanks for sharing your family with us and look forward to your next video.
I actually thought about buying a crockpot, but I ended up ordering groceries from Aldi for this video because Walmart couldn't deliver for a few days when we were there. There wasn't even any salt in the kitchen. It was weird, and definitely not my usual experience in a rental or even a hotel kitchenette.
I absolutely love Rada cutlery. Believe it or not they were sold as a fund raiser for school organizations in the 60’s. My mom had a few paring knives and gave me a couple when I got married in 1977. Over the years they eventually disappeared and I tried every other kind of knife I could find and hated them all. None measured up to those micro thin blades on the Rada paring knife. I didn’t know the name of the company that made them because it wasn’t imprinted on the knives anywhere. I eventually found some at a flea market about 10 years later and was ecstatic but still no brand name on the box. Finally at another flea market I found some that had the name on the box and was able to look them up. I have many of the different knives now, besides the paring knife and I like to give them as gifts. I’m happy that others are catching on to these wonderful knives.
When I was researching the company to decide if I wanted to work with them, I read that they were a popular fundraising option in their area! I have really good things about Rada from many people, and LOTS of comments here. :)
I love your editing in this video! Your video quality continues to improve but your channel and content has stayed consistent! I love to watch after work to wind down. Keep up the good work!❤
Thanks, Alexis! I actually have a fanatic editor who helps me out with a lot of my videos, especially the big ones. This one had almost 100 clips...she's a magician! :)
Thank you for this inspirational video! We're going to be spending 2 weeks over the holidays with my extended family...never fewer than 6 people, and often up to 16 for evening meals. Your ideas are going to be a good starting point! One trick we have utilized in the past is creating teams....there are about 4 adults who do the bulk of the prep, cook and clean, along with several children from 6 to 18. We call out Minions Assemble! and whichever "team" is on duty will come to the kitchen to help out. It's all set in advance, so no one has to work more than one meal per day, and it's fun to work in groups.
When I travel and know I will be cooking in someone else's kitchen; I try to bring a few things from my kitchen with me. I usually drive to my destination so it isn't a problem. I sometimes pick up disposable foil pans after getting to my destination too.
I love your large meal planning for social get together. Not only do you create delicious meals, but they look fairly easy to make, encourage self serve style & on a budget. What's not to love? Thank you to you & your family for sharing the great ideas. Hope you all had a wonderful family get together over Thanksgiving & a blessed Merry Christmas!
Glad you had that strong drink at the end there! You definitely deserved it after feeding such a large crowd! Thank you for all the tips and tricks. Your advice is always so useful, practical and kind. :)
For the Snickers salad, my mind was blown when I tasted a recipe for it that included cream cheese, powdered sugar, cool whip, and pudding! Oh my goodness. SOOO tasty!
A big ole pot of chili! You can easily do frito chili pie, or add some baked potatoes for a potato bar! My husband is a huge fan of smoking a ton of food. Although, that takes a little bit more planning, as smoking food takes about a day. Lol. Love your videos!!
I absolutely LOVE Rada knives ! I have been using them for years, my favorite ! Your meal plan ideas are fabulous for a big crowd and everything looked amazing ! Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks to make family meals easier !
Great video, Mindy. Especially this time of year. Great budget advice, and keeping it simple is the best approach when there is a lot to do. So happy to see your channel is continuing to grow!
I certainly hope that you made a list of the “missing” kitchen necessities AND gave it to the management. You may have been able to make things work but those items should be included in your rental. OR it should have been noted that you would need to bring certain appliances etc
I know it’s too late now but if you turn your can opener so ithe twisty but is to the top and clip it to the side it will work better . I found that out recently and I’m mind blown!! Also I have the opposite problem. I always had to cook for 20 plus people daily in a shared community l lives in with my family and now I live alone. So I cook too much !!!
Well that's definitely something I need to keep in mind if I ever Airbnb for the holidays, contact the owner and ask if they have the specific cooking products I will need.
I literally take my instapot with us when we travel. I hope you left a list for the Airbnb host of what they need to buy 😂. Ppl don’t cook on vacation I’ve found, they spend thousands going out. 😱
I wish I was at that party...the food looked delish and made my mouth water...totally made me laugh at the end when you opened the bottle!!! Thanks for sharing!
Now you have good questions to ask a rental property person about how the kitchen is stocked. Also, is there a thrift store near by or even a Family Dollar store. Things were not thought through for a funeral. Boudin (a Cajun style sausage) was purchased but no way to serve it. There was a Family Dollar directly across the street, so I ran over and bought 2 $15 slow cookers and mini tongs (there were 2 different flavors) . Problem solved. We sent one home with a family member and the second may have been donated.
I’ve never made my guac with store bought salsa- what a great shortcut!! I always chop up the veggies myself and add them in. Can’t wait to try it!! I am interested to see how it stands up to the fresh veggies 😋
Thank you for all the tips. I had 24 at Thanksgiving that I was not expecting. HUGE Challenge. It all worked out and was a true blessing. However....This is happening again December 23rd. I am completely overwhelmed. It will always work out. Your video has been sooooo very inspiring.
I LOVE Rada knives! I have had mine for over 8 years and they are still sharp and I use them almost every day. I especially love the veggie peeler, that gadget makes peeling potatoes so fast and easy! I have highly reccomend this company's products to friends and family. Thanks for the feeding a crowd tips, I really apprciate it!😊
Loved this video! I’m always cooking for a crowd when my in laws stay with us, so I loved the ideas. Also, I purchased the Rada tomato knife several years ago as part of a school fundraiser and I love it!
I hope your group left feedback on the rental to let them know what was broken and needed to serve a large family group. This time of year with all the deals, Kohls cash etc, they could remedy that quite affordably.
Great ideas. I sure hope you left them a review with some of the items you would have liked to have seen in the kitchen. Just because it's made for large groups doesn't mean they are all going to be eating out or ordering in. I love that you are not afraid to drink booze on your videos. Most people would be afraid of offending "someone". Go for it.
Mindy…I was wondering what other meals you made for the family week of being together? Whenever we have a family gathering, we have many people. We often have done soups or sloppy joes but other ideas would be greatly appreciated! 😁
Everything looked delicious! My takeaway is that going on vacation with several extended family members and cooking for them is no vacation for me 😂 In all seriousness, this summer, I stayed in a vacation rental house for the first time, that was like an Airbnb but a different company. What I remember is calling the company ahead of time was hard, 99% of transactions were done online. I think closer to check-in, which requires 0 human contact, we got a number to call if we needed trash removal during our stay. I bring this all up to say, my first takeaway was if I was to cook for several people in a rental property, I would call ahead to find out what tools are available in the kitchen, but that probably isn’t possible. Even if it was possible, the person working for the company would have no idea the can opener was broken. Anyway, good tips, but if I ever cook for a crowd, it will only be at home if I can help it
Please tell me you sent a review to the AirBB you stayed at with a list of items they need to get on hand in the kitchen with explanation of why those items are needed. And for the love of God a new can opener. I would have sent someone out for a new opener and take it home or leave it at the AirBB.
Just recently found your channel, and I love it. In a couple of other videos, you and your husband were eating different meals than your children (steak vs. hotdogs; salmon vs. fish sticks). Why? My parents used to do this sometimes, and it made us feel like we weren't good enough to eat what they were eating. My friends said their parents never did this
Oh man, I saw your SiL with the wells middle school shirt on and was like “oh that’s funny, that’s what my school was called, but I’m in California” ,,,,except then you said she was from California. So I had to go down a rabbit hole googling and apparently there’s TWO Wells Middle Schools in California 😂
We try to stay in rental properties when we travel to save money on food. Once one of the kitchens had several coffee makers all of which were broken. The owner didn’t know and asked that we purchase a new one while we were out shopping for groceries and immediately credited the amount plus an “inconvenience fee” back to us. Not always the best way to go, but it worked for us. Where was Inspector Gadget when you needed him? 😂

Mindy prepared great meals for our large group and was so flexible in adjusting with the poorly equipped kitchen.
Thanks, mom. :)

We do the apple/snicker salad every Christmas. Going to try with butterscotch, that sounds good.

Erin, thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement! That's so funny because I almost became a HS English teacher instead of music! LOL

Yep. I gave my family several options, and potato bar was on there! Really great option.

As a California resident all my life. I can tell you avocados are a staple.
Native texan in New Mexico same...we probably have 10 in the kitchen as I speak
My SiL had a hard time finding ripe ones in Florida. They had to sit on the counter for a couple days.
Im a California native who lived in Texas and now Washington. I didn't love living in Texas, however they have the best avocados in South Texas. Not the broke can opener 😂 dang that would make me so mad 😅
I'm just glad I only had 5 cans. LOL

I use my oven as a slow cooker. You put the food in a aluminum pan, cover with foil and cook at 250 for 4to8 hrs or overnight.
Glad you had that strong drink at the end there! You definitely deserved it after feeding such a large crowd! Thank you for all the tips and tricks. Your advice is always so useful, practical and kind. :)
You never fail to deliver!! Thank you so much for this video, especially when we are all getting ready to be loaded up with family.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope there is something helpful here. :)
For the Snickers salad, my mind was blown when I tasted a recipe for it that included cream cheese, powdered sugar, cool whip, and pudding! Oh my goodness. SOOO tasty!
Yes, that one is probably better than the one I made! I didn't want to buy powdered sugar. LOL
Thanks for this. My sister's and our children and Grandkids are doing a reunion this summer. This is very insiteful
Hope it helps! :)
A big ole pot of chili! You can easily do frito chili pie, or add some baked potatoes for a potato bar!
My husband is a huge fan of smoking a ton of food. Although, that takes a little bit more planning, as smoking food takes about a day. Lol. Love your videos!!
Such amazing ideas! Thank you! Happy Holidays! Cheers!
I absolutely LOVE Rada knives ! I have been using them for years, my favorite ! Your meal plan ideas are fabulous for a big crowd and everything looked amazing ! Thank you for sharing these tips and tricks to make family meals easier !
I love how you garnished the quacamole with an avocado pit! Brilliant!
It’s supposed to help keep the guacamole from browning.
Looks really cute too!
@@BarefootFarm thats what I was going to say lol
That was all my SiL! She says that's the way her Aunt & Uncle do it, which is where she learned to make it.
Crockpots are the key to cooking for a crowd!!!
Rada knives are FANTASTIC! The tomato slicer is a game changer.
I have heard so many great things about Rada!
I have a whole set plus more of the Rada knives!!! Love them and I get them at our Mennonite deli/grocery down the road. Worth the money for sure!!!
champagne in red solo cup. Classic! 🙂
I had done enough dishes at that point. LOL!
Perfect timing for this video!!
Great suggestion for bar style serving. As someone with vicious allergies it saves me when folks do this style.
Rada has been in my family for generations. Love them
I've heard very good things from everybody about them.
Pace picante is the best!!I love it so much I want to tour the place where they make it!
I love the game Wizard. I haven't played it in years. I need to play again. Thanks for your tips.
Champagne makes everything better 🤣
Fresh salsa is really good in guacamole!
What a fun video this was - thanks for taking us with you! great tips, and ideas. Cheers!
Thanks for watching, Cathy!
Good work babe!
😘
LOVE my Rada knives!!
Thank you 🙏🤗
Great tips and ideas! I haven't had a proper kitchen since moving in May and it's interesting how creative you can get when needed.
so true!
Mindy, can you do a video on easy at home Chinese recipes?
Well that's definitely something I need to keep in mind if I ever Airbnb for the holidays, contact the owner and ask if they have the specific cooking products I will need.
Just placed Rada order! I hope your family appreciates your sweet spirited willingness to CEO kitchen detail!!!
I literally take my instapot with us when we travel. I hope you left a list for the Airbnb host of what they need to buy 😂. Ppl don’t cook on vacation I’ve found, they spend thousands going out. 😱
The super knife is the best
Awesome video Mindy🎄⛄
You can dice the apples, microwave them and add sugar. Not as bubbly and delicious looking as yours but they are tasty and quick.
I wish I was at that party...the food looked delish and made my mouth water...totally made me laugh at the end when you opened the bottle!!! Thanks for sharing!
Cheers! :)
This Rada knives are amazing!!! My Mom gave me the tomato slicer knife years go….it slices so smooth and is still super sharp. Highly recommend Rada.
Thank you what an excellent video since I am the worst when entertaining a crowd-great ideas and I will keep them all in my cooking collection!,,,,
Thanks for watching, Brenda! I hope there is something helpful here. :)
Your taco bar idea is great. We may do it for our NYE late Christmas family get together. I’ll have to buy some cabrito. I can’t cook goat.
Everything looked superb. Brownies and Clam Chowder are the greatest achievements in the history of the USA! I never peel apples or poataoes.
Now you have good questions to ask a rental property person about how the kitchen is stocked. Also, is there a thrift store near by or even a Family Dollar store. We’ve stayed in a lot of VRBOs and air bnbs and I’ve found that the kitchens are usually stocked terribly as far as pots and pans and utensils
I’ve found most of their pots and pans look like they came from a garage sale. 🥲
I’ve never made my guac with store bought salsa- what a great shortcut!! I always chop up the veggies myself and add them in. Can’t wait to try it!! I am interested to see how it stands up to the fresh veggies 😋
My SiL says it has to be store-bought and it has to be Pace! :)
Add beans and corn to every thing
Thank you for all the tips. I had 24 at Thanksgiving that I was not expecting. HUGE Challenge. It all worked out and was a true blessing. However....This is happening again December 23rd. I am completely overwhelmed. It will always work out. Your video has been sooooo very inspiring.
That's a great idea, Kat!
Everything looks good. That Snickers apple salad... 😋🤤👀
I love all of my Rada knives.. I’ve been using them for over 30 years, I won’t hardly use anything else!
Your SO down to earth, Mindy!! I love & appreciate you so much!
Thanks, Brandy! I appreciate that.
I LOVE Rada knives! I have had mine for over 8 years and they are still sharp and I use them almost every day. I especially love the veggie peeler, that gadget makes peeling potatoes so fast and easy! I have highly reccomend this company's products to friends and family. Thanks for the feeding a crowd tips, I really apprciate it!😊
I have heard a lot of great things about Rada! Thanks!
Loved this video! I’m always cooking for a crowd when my in laws stay with us, so I loved the ideas. Also, I purchased the Rada tomato knife several years ago as part of a school fundraiser and I love it!
So very much hoping you weren't responsible for every meal and got an opportunity to relax a bit! This playlist is fabulous, thank you
I hope your group left feedback on the rental to let them know what was broken and needed to serve a large family group.
I thought about leaving a review, or at least letting them know what was missing.
Hi Mindy thanks for the video I will be cooking for a large family this year so thanks for the great recipes
Glad I could give some ideas!
Mindy…I was wondering what other meals you made for the family week of being together? Whenever we have a family gathering, we have many people. We often have done soups or sloppy joes but other ideas would be greatly appreciated! 😁
Everything looked delicious! My takeaway is that going on vacation with several extended family members and cooking for them is no vacation for me 😂
In all seriousness, this summer, I stayed in a vacation rental house for the first time, that was like an Airbnb but a different company.
Anyway, good tips, but if I ever cook for a crowd, it will only be at home if I can help it
Yes, this property was under a management company, so not as easy to contact owners.
I love Rada knives! I have several of them.
I'm impressed with what they sent me! I just ordered some things for gifts. :)
Please tell me you sent a review to the AirBB you stayed at with a list of items they need to get on hand in the kitchen with explanation of why those items are needed. And for the love of God a new can opener. I would have sent someone out for a new opener and take it home or leave it at the AirBB.
I didn't realize it until I was already cooking, I just saw a can opener in the drawer and assumed it worked (clearly, I was wrong). LOL
Love these ideas!
Thanks, Cheryl!
Mindy and family have a great week have fun thanks from Oklahoma
Thanks, Sherry, you too!
Love Rada! I have Rada knives I got when we married 40 years ago…still sharp.
Me too! I won’t use anything else!
I have heard from so many people who rave about Rada! Glad I got to work with them. :)
Heck yeah, if @SMM is the sister-in-law…she’s in charge of the meals! 🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️ What a fun video!
haha! True. Occupational hazard, I guess. And you can bet it will be turned into a video somehow. LOL!
thanks for the video!
I make my guacamole almost the same way. The only difference is that I use garlic salt instead of regular salt. It’s always a crowd pleaser.
Great tip!
Great job 👏🏾 I love your videos
Thanks, Vernicia!
@@SeeMindyMom Yw!
Great video Mindy!!
Thanks, Nancy!
I thought you said the rental didn't come with a slow cooker. But at the end of the video it looked like you had the scrambled eggs in one?
It was a large roaster. It's not the same thing, unfortunately.
I have had Rada steak knives for over 30 years. Still going strong!
Several people have mentioned that to me when I told them I was working with Rada this month!
@@SeeMindyMom I bought them through a fundraiser years ago.
Nooooo😮. I would have bought a can opener and looked at the thrift store for a crockpot! And maybe a stock pot
🤣Nothing says Southwestern gal more than champagne in a Red Cup!
I love that they are made in the USA!!
Me, too!
haha! go go gadget!
Excited for this video.
Thanks! I hope it's helpful. :)
@@SeeMindyMom you're welcome. Thank you. It will be.
I thought I was the only one who didn't like avocados! Great tips!
I WANT to like avocados...but I just don't. LOL
Hi Mindy 👋
Hi, Maria! :)
Great video...do all OSU cowboys drink their champagne out of "Red Solo Cup, I fill you UP"?
😁😅 Go Big 12!!
