Very impressive, Emma; given the title of the video, I don't feel we heard enough of her story of early menopause and love her authenticity in her chosen vocation and the acknowledgement of maturity being a huge asset for the counselling work she does.
Gary is a hero football-wise to all of us, and I love how methodical he is about achieving his goals and aims and his relentlessness. An amazing example to the youth of today. Hes England and Man Utd's best-ever Right-Back of all time. And he's so humble. Emma seems so down to earth and normal too, peace and love from Ireland
Fearne Cotton wow! What a brilliantly conducted interview covering so many interesting topics. Just loved the pertinent questions and how you let both Neville’s answer in their own contrasting ways. Interruptions when required were perfectly timed. As a 60 year old bloke you had me hooked from start to finish. Take a bow.❤
Gary has a lot to say, but also knows when to be quiet and listen to others. So many people don't listen because they are already thinking of what to say next.
Iam a Liverpool fan and even though we didnt like Gary when he played i love the overlap and i have nothing but respect for him,but his wife Emma seems a lovly girl and i have to say it but he has definitely punched above his weight she is beautiful, its no wonder he's been so successful behind every great Man is a great Women and she is so brave to do this but Kudos to Gary for being honest
@@dondamon4669 But she didn't know that when they met! That's a horrible thing to say. Jeez, I'm a Liverpool fan too and I can't believe I'm sticking up for Gary Neville! I agree with Mark too. He is punching well above his weight!
There is the flip side for late menopause. You linger endlessly trapped in the peri - which ramps up as it hangs onto the bitter end. Heading into my mid 50's here, still in the peri phase and begging my body to hurry up and let me get onto the next phase. Our elders generally don't warn us about what is coming. We need more people to speak out about this phase of our lives.
My partner has been going through this for years now. It’s a daily struggle for her. I support her where I can but getting the right professional support is hard, especially as we live in the back water that is south Cumbria. She knows more than her GP about the topic, I feel that more dedicated knowledgable specialists are required in this field. They might be out there but certainly aren’t where we are. She is also mid 50s and still in the peri phase.
You made a great point about elders not talking about or warning us about any of the stages of life as we get older. Whether physical or psychological.
I think it may be affecting current generations differently in that so many more women are full time in the workplace and sharing larger financial responsibility til retirement, than earlier generations
Thank you, Emma. Menopause should not be a taboo subject. I cannot stand Gary as a pundit. However, I absolutely love his quirky personality, and he is fantastic on The Overlap, one of my favorite YT shows.
Thank you for talking about this fearne as its better to be educated around hormones but also knowing that its something we are all going to go through and that we will come out of it! If you're not at this stage in life then try to tune out and not watch or listen to videos if it is anxiety producing, which i understand but when you're in it hearing other peoples experiences does help. You have to do what's best for you.
I'm 37, been having perimenopause symptoms for the last year at least, my mum keeps reeling me "you're too young, I was 50 blah blah", but I know my body so I've paid for private blood tests which show I've got low testosterone among other things. My mums response "well you're determined to be perimonpausal" No, mum, my test results say it's my body that's determined, I'm not deciding anything. I'm so grateful to Emma, we need more support as even our own mums are stuck in an old fashioned mindset that's completely unhelpful!
Everyones experience will be different and i think each of us should just support one another no matter how it pans out. Menopause is a wildly neglected subject yet this has at least opened up a conversation. It's great that it's a husband and wife talking together aboutbit because this is the realities we will face in one form or another.
Menopause is not talked about enough, it impacts mental health, it impacts your job, your family. Pre and Post and no matter what age make no difference, this is the real world this is menopause and yet at school we don't educate, in the workplace its not considered.
I genuinly believe in 10 x years time, he will do an interview regretting that he took everything on, in these days, he even admitted he is missing out on his kids and is it worth it. Slow down Gary, slow down !!
@warrensanchez3526 He is. Most typical men just want to find a solution. The emotional effect the menopause has is indescribable. So difficult for those around us and devastating at times.
Great podcast with a lovely down to earth couple I like Gary and watch overlap even though i hate football , wonderful to speak about Menopause its so important, Dr Louise Newson was best help ever for me .
We need legislation that makes it compulsory for workplaces to educate and bring awareness to women in adulthood when it comes to this stage of their life. We also need the NHS to come on board also. There is NOT enough information made available to women advising them 1. That Perimenopause is an actual thing and to expect it anywhere from mid 30s onwards. 2. That women need to prepare their minds and bodies for the onset of Menopause because it has long term health implications for the REST of our lives and 3. Menopause does NOT go away - we will have to live with this until we breathe our last breath. I honestly feel let down by our Health Service as a woman in my 40s going through Perimenopause. I should NOT have to rely on Google to educate myself on something so profound, that I'm going to have to navigate for the rest of my life. Things need to change NOW.
Employers should not be lecturing staff about private matters. They should of course be understanding of issues as they arise, but what you are proposing is disturbing.
@@eric5959 Eric, who said anything about LECTURING??!! The workplace is and will continue to be greatly affected by women who are feeling challenged by Menopause. People like you, who are closeminded to new avenues of support, guidance, education and awareness of Menopause and how we can all navigate it, will continue to keep it an isolating and overwhelming aspect of a woman's life.
The government has actually now recognised this debilitating feelings that women are going through. Work places have now started to tell them that if they are having a bad day they can take time out and if they want to work from home they can. I never experienced any side effect but my daughter has badly at this moment. They have put that in force now and have implemented it along with others, hurrah at last.
I am postmenopausal, and while in the thick of it read that 80% of women have moderate to severe symptoms (I was one of them) but that 20% of women sail through with mild/no symptoms. Nearly every woman I know will relate to Emma's symptoms. Massive respect to her and Gary. 👌👍
@@Little_Sidhe not there yet but my mum had the odd hot flush , only when she was in her thick dressing gown, and she started menopause very late ! I just know when I had thyroid cancer all I read was negative stuff and it causes my health anxiety to rocket so I think it’s very very important to hear both sides of things so as not to scare and worry people before they’ve got there.
I feel a bit for Gary here. He shows concern for his wife and a desire to, in the only way he knows how, help her through a time both of them found difficult to understand. Some of the audience responses were less than kind. They seem like a lovely couple who are communicative and accepting of who each of them are and supportive of each others goals.
Surprised Gary didn't share his personal experiences about his menopause as well, otherwise babbling the whole time. I would like to heare more of Emmas thoughts as well.
I do understand the impact of early menopause. I had an hysterectomy at 39 due to cancer. Now you can let early menopause impact your life or you can embrace it and welcome the future. I am not unsympathetic with young women experiencing it and everyone is different - I know that. I am just not willing to listen to yet another victim. This young woman has a life very few experience, embrace it. Sorry Fearne, but life is too short.
I'm so sorry you went through that ❤ and agree we are all different. My friend didnt even realised it had happened to her.. where I havent slept properly in 6yrs and find it difficult to socialise as I'm not me anymore x
It's never a mistake to apply logic. The mistake is usually to be emotional. Man up, say it with your chest and don't fear women's reaction on this or anything.
Did I hear that right... His sister has abandoned her daughter at 1years of age after saying she'd be back in 6 months? We laughing about deadbeat parenting lol?
Can you stop with the menopause scare mongering please, I'm 47 and wasn't terrified and now am. My mum aunties and friends got through it and didn't have the scary problems you have stop it!
- How is sharing different experiences with perimenopause 'scaremongering'? I am pleased that more and more women are talking openly about how perimenopause has affected them and how their journey has been. Sure, many women don't have any significant issues with it. Still, on the other hand, there are a lot of women who do have some considerable challenges related to perimenopause. I wish someone had told me about it because I am going through it right now, and it sure isn't fun. I really appreciate it when women are more open about things like this. Too many women's health issues are not spoken about openly. In my opinion, we need this kind of conversation.
That's your fear. I find it helpful to hear other people's experiences. We need to be speaking and sharing with one another about these life changing and challenging event's.
How does that help women that do suffer. Keep on top of your own health & let others do the same - *their way. Regardless of how you go through the menopause, there is more help available these days. Mostly due to women like this speaking up. It’s not a sordid dark experience- it’s something everyone should feel comfortable talking about 🤍
