It's a small pool to choose from to be sure, but he takes it Edit: he's actually jazz comping the sax solo with his kazoo while playing drums. He def takes it 😶
The sync of the kazoo and bass fill led me to believe maybe Joe was playing the kazoo when I listened to just the recording. Incredible how matched up they were...
Can you tell in what way this song has a connection with Romania besides the name? Is it referencing traditional Romanian music or is there a different link that you see? I've been wondering about the name ever since it dropped
Or, to put in another way: I have no clue about Romanian drinking habits and customs. But do you really listen to such cheerful and laid back music when you meet to drink? (or when you drink on your own?)
@@trustnugget280 i was very surprised when i saw the notification that they made a romanian song. but i have to say that i dont think there is anything romanian about this song. Romanians do have a culture of listening to "lautareasca" music when drinking (a traditional balkan style played especially at parties and just about everywhere else), and it sounds nothing like this. check out "albatros- hai pahar", literally about drinking or "ionel tudorache- portofele portofele", or just about anything else from ionel tudorache, taraf de caliu, marian mexicanu, ionica minune, romica puceanu, gabi lunca etc. That is the music romanians drink to. I think all of the examples i just gave are gypsy musicians, because they are the very best musicians in the region but this is not exclusively gypsy music, it is played by ethnic romanians too, just not as much and not as well. it just came to our lands via the ottoman empire and has stuck ever since. "muzica de pahar", "muzica de petrecere" and other terms to describe this music very clearly outline the fact that this music is meant to be listened to while drinking, regardless of whether it is drinking of sorrow or partying. As the "hai pahar" lyrics say, "i drink when i am sad and when i celebrate". Yes, romanians drink a lot but they also listen to a lot of music. It is very funky, jumpy and syncopated music just in a very different way to this western music and i did not recognise any romanian or balkan sounding melodic patterns in this song, i do not understand the title at all
The connection is the title of the album, a Hebrew word for Sauna, hence the location where the videos are recorded. It references a klezmer tune: ruclips.net/video/KPV_fu54piw/видео.html
@@omocaigomocaig oh i see, so it is a kletzmer song titled romanian drinking song, but really it is a jewish song. i would love to know where the song got its inspiration, maybe it really is a romanian drinking song at some distant origin. there is a large overlap of jewish and balkan music after all
I remember my grandfather playing the kazoo for me and my sister while planting new potatoes. Such simple times, potatoes and kazoo. Romania's most valuable treasures!
Although everyone in this video is a recognized and distinct musician, it is oddly satisfying to see Jack back on the Piano, Theo on the Drums and Joey on the Sax! I dunno why but this combination brings back them feels.

I don't know if it is or not - kazoo guitar soli - 01:08 head bob steadicam - curtain over piano - 02:33 Joe lean break - 02:44 composed run for kazoo and bass and knowing that Theo would be smiling were it not for the kazoo in his mouth. - 03:22 splankies I am unfond of - absence of dog - absence of key change

As someone who lives next door to Romanian's on either side, who practically have BBQs and drinking parties 2-3 times a week... This is extremely accurate. (Drums need to go Uhn-ka Uhn-KA Uhn-ka Uhn-KA continuously, unchangingly, from 7pm to 4am through my walls to be more accurate though)
one of the great kazooing drummers of our generation

Theo really making a case for entry into the kazoo hall of fame, ripping arguably the most disgusting kazoo lick of the past two decades at 2:44
Fun fact hes actually that Kazoo kid who taught everybody how to play kazoo in the 90s.
I keep having to go back to watch again and again 🤯

the kazoo lick we deserved
absolute stank!

Theo is a bassist at heart, but Joe Dart is in the band, soooo…
Theo wasn't even looking at the bass, he was just staring at the camera.
@@DigitaIJustice They couldn't take the bass away from Joe without his heart stopping

If I had never heard this song, and you asked me what it was called, I would never in a million years say "Romanian Drinking Song".
Agreed, I feel more like a cab driver in NY in the '70s.

Okay, that unisono kazoo/bass run at 2:43 was pretty insane.
I wish we could get a Corey Wong reaction to that moment. You know he’s be yell laughing only like Wong can
As a romanian, this was incredibly unexpected and most enjoyable. Happy music, everyone!

It's nice to see traditional Romanian folkloric music making a comeback
I love how in this record they push the envelope of their sound, but still occasionally hit the nostalgia button and engage in their classic sound
that whole B section at 2:22 gives me vollmilch vibes

Woody lowkey the MVP of this track. Man is understated nasty on this.

When Jack stands up from the keys during a breakdown you know it’s gonna be a banger
Jack Stratton channeling his inner Jack Conte
Theo is clearly one of the best Kazoo players of his age bracket
Imagine drinking in a bar in Bucharest and this song comes on the jukebox.
Instant vibe
Beautiful
I heard a lot of Vulf in bars in Arad
My brain still can't comprehend what happens on that kazoo lick.
theo on kazoo is all i'll ever need
Funkiest Vulf track in a while.
It's so low volume
Cory is like nonexistent in the mix
He’s just extra low volume today
I was just about to comment that as well 😭👍
I had been trying to figure out his part but I really can't tell even with pretty good headphones on :(

The energy here is so smooth and funky I'm surprised it didn't force off one of the legs of wurli (left).
2:44 perhaps the hottest kazoo/bass lick ever!
I'm always looking for another reason to drink. I'm always looking for another reason to listen to Vulfpeck. What a perfect song to do both! Cheers!
I'm neither a Romanian nor a drinker, but this song makes me want to be both
Glad to see they had a bigger kazoo budget this album

need this track to be retroactively added to Theo!, Vulf Vault 003
Most underrated song on the damn record! Absolutely stanky and reminds me of their EPs
Can't believe Joey's key got stuck and it still sounded incredible
I can.
It’s that moist sauna air.
When you are jamming so hard there is no better ending than a fade out! Definitely my favorite song from the new album so far.
It's been a month and my brain still can't process that kazoo/bass run, absolute insanity 🤯
Theos air-hihat really keeps the track together
Paradiddle with kazoo and flems with shakers bring drummery to another level!
Released on my birthday, greatest gift of all time
Was waiting for this one since the full album dropped. One of my new favs !
Listening to Vulfpeck is like ordering a cocktail with a bizarre ingredient: “I’d like a Dr. Funk with a shot of Vulf, please”
The sax a kazoo is the duet you didn't even know you needed.

It's honestly so underappreciated. Reminds me of their older albums. Absolutely stanky and feel-good, masterpiece
Classic Woody Goss line
Theo's left leg really isn't pulling its weight in the overall production
Either that bass is a children's model, or Joe Dart is a giant. Of course, he'll aaalways be a giant.... in my heart.
