    Happy to see you back. However, I disagree with your opinion on moving back home with your parents for a bit. It should not be considered defeat or weak. Many people have to take a few months and move back with family just to restart and get themselves in order. It shouldn't be viewed as a failure within you, but rather as a strength in doing what is best for yourself and your life.

      I think I see it as defeat because I would have to pack up all my things (+ cats) and haul everything to Missouri. Then I would probably just end up staying there because it would be too inconvenient to haul everything back to California. And you know, I left Missouri to have a better life... so going back, eh, yeah, just kinda feels like defeat for me.
      If my family lived within driving distance, I would definitely go crash with them for a month. But it just doesn’t seem practical in my situation.

    Antidepressants do help people. I suffer from depression and I was a mess for over a decade until I finally accepted being put on antidepressants. Literally 6 weeks later I felt like a switch went on and the world had color. I regret not taking them 10 years earlier. My life is so good now.

      LonelyGirl 14 I agree. The first antidepressant I tried made me feel exactly how Kalel mentioned (always tired and more unmotivated). I think the dose was too high and overall the brand didn’t work for me. I switched to a different one and I feel SO much better, I feel like myself finally. There's nothing "prideful" about not taking the neccessary medication for your wellbeing, that's actually really sad. If the antidepressants didn't work for you the way they're supposed to, you need to relay to your doctor and psychiatrist that the dosage/medication is not working and explain what your side effects are and how you're feeling so that they can tweak it for you. I'm someone who takes an antidepressant. Hearing you say you "gave it a chance" and quit the medication makes it seem like you really don't take mental health seriously and that the rest of us who have to take antidepressants aren't strong enough to be able to function without them like you. Your attitude when talking about that topic seemed a tad bit condescending. Other people have probably said this, but each anti depressant is really so different. The first two I took were SSRIs (Zoloft and Celexa). They did nothing for me and one of them even made me worse. In May, I overdosed trying to kill myself and ended up in the hospital. The psychiatrist realized SSRIs may not be good for me. Now I am on Wellbutrin which is specifically meant to give you motivation/energy (the hardest part of my depression). I genuinely feel like it's been helping a lot!
    This is not to say you should ever take anti depressants again if you don't want especially if it makes you uncomfy, but just know there is probably a way better one for you out there. It can be very taxing to go through the process of finding the right one, though. Definitely always follow your instincts.

    I felt the same way on antidepressants. And i tried different types as well. They made me feel like a zombie and i couldn't even go to work or drive. There was only one kind that didnt make me feel sick but it still made me very sleepy and my emotions were very blah and neutral. Just didn't feel myself at all. I exercise and do yoga to cure my anxiety and depression and its helped so much.

    Antidepressants helped me with my anxiety, for that exact reason. I was high strung, worrying over everything and I needed something to calm me down. But what works for my anxiety, didn't work for my friends.

    Anti depressent usually take about 6 weeks to really start to kick in,, for the first month i was still depressed and unmotivated and anxious asf, but after that second month my life began to feel normal again... not telling anyone to take them, but they deffinetly helped me and turned my life around

  • @lisazarrin

    So I was in a similar Situation with depression and "OCD" two years ago. It got so bad that I was standing on a bridge one night ready to jump (sorry if that's too much to hear). But that one itty bitty tiny hope of a better life was getting me to text a friend who talked to me until I was ready to get down. That day I promised I would go to therapy and try to fix the mess. I started going regularly and it wasn't really getting better so I started taking anti depressants and they weren't really helping I was about to give up when my doctor gave me a new prescription which was the best thing because they helped me soooooo much through the first few struggles of getting better. I found out that my OCD was just my way of trying to fix my head. I always had the thought that if I just kept my surroundings clean and tidy enough my head wouldn't get messy either. But instead I just drove myself crazy with the cleaning.
    Now two years later I'm no longer taking the pills, I'm not a clean freak any more but instead am trying (yes trying!) to have a more healthy relationship to cleaning. And I learnt so many ways to handle a difficult situation or day. It was the best thing.
    What I'm trying to say is don't give up on getting better. If your anti depressants didn't work maybe they weren't on the right dosage or it wasn't the right one. Its okay to accept help if you need it. Showing "weakness" is actually not weak its strong. If you have a compulsion to clean maybe try to figure out why. What are you trying to accomplish? And if you have a mindset like I did maybe try to exchange it to something more real. Like I did change mine to: if my rooms messy I'll be fine (something like that)
    I'm not an expert and I'm not trying to be one. I'm just telling my experiences and my knowledge. Everyone's different and everyone has a different thing that helps

    For those who are whining about her opinion on taking antidepressants- please stop complaining. It’s her journey and her experience. Like- seriously 😒- so annoying that people cling onto one thing someone says and whines about it. If they work for you, great, but don’t complain if it didn’t work for someone else and they’re sharing their experience.

    • @malloryg4251
      @malloryg4251 5 лет назад

      I don't think people are whining and complaining, from what I've read in the comments. They just want Kalel to heed her past advice and be more sensitive when discussing topics such as mental health. It's not like she's just giving her opinion on beauty treatments and food- we're talking about depression and medications to treat depression. She just needs to watch her words a little more and realize that what she says does have an effect on her viewers, and saying things carelessly about a serious topic can be hurtful. No hate towards Kalel or anyone else : )

    I completely understand the lack of self motivation - I've been going through this for the last couple months, and have been putting some serious thought into whether I feel I could be depressed, and whether or not I should take the step of speaking to a doctor about it. I am a mental health supporter and have always wanted to de-stigmatize mental health issues and medication as a means to treat them - though I understand method of treatment is a personal choice for everyone. I think it's SO important for people to seek some form of treatment. Whether it's counseling/therapy, medications, or other avenues.

    Dissuading people from using anti-depressants (just because the one you tried didn't work for you) is irresponsible. It takes some people years to find the right combination of medication, but they save lives. This video is super insensitive. Hope you feel less "lazy". Smh.

      I agree with you 10000%. I also thought the comment about living at home at 30 equaling defeat was shitty. I am disabled and in crazy amounts of pain. I’m also 30 and have to live at home because I require help, which isn’t the norm, but not everyone is understanding. This whole video really rubbed me wrong, as someone else that also deals with OCD.

      Jonathan Torres she is an “influencer” - she has the ability to influence people to do things. If a young person sees this and is struggling, they may be less likely to get the help they need. Also - no need to be rude.

      @Helena Props Same, I love Kalel too but sometimes she seems so out of touch with how normal people live? Like the vast majority of us cannot isolate ourselves for a year and not work. Antidepressants literally save lives and help me attend 9-5 jobs, go to school etc.

    • @anna.elise.m
      @anna.elise.m 5 лет назад +1

      Thinking that pills are the only answer to these problems is irresponsible. From my personal experience of being on them almost 10 years and deciding as an adult to get off of them, they harmed me so much more than any help they gave me. Some people should take them sure, but it should never be the first go-to.

    I think you upload when youre manic, and delete/disappear when you fall back into depression.
    The drugs probably didnt work because depression could be a misdiagnosis and they are only "treating" half of your manic/depressive episodes.
    Maybe seek a second opinion on your depression diagnosis because it seems like there could be more to it?
    I struggle with similar problems and behaviors and I hope you find the help and motivation youre looking for.
