    “Bing” was originally going to be called “Bang” instead, however Microsoft quickly realized saying “Let me just Bang that real quick” would have made it a horrible idea.

    Personal experience. I had windows phones for its lifetime and initially set it up to search Google but then I had to format it for some reason and let Bing stay default to try it out. At first the searches were off then slowly in about 5-6months I realised that bing was giving me the searches I need, it’s then I realised that Google is only so good at knowing what I’m searching for because I’ve been using it for so long. Since then I used bing for as long as I had a windows phone up till 2017 and never needed to use google. Unfortunately WP was canceled and I had to switch to Android and started using Google again and noticed the exact same, since I hadn’t used Google for a long time it didn’t give me the required searches and again took the same time as bing to adapt to my liking. That’s when I realised it’s not about ‘which is the better search engine?’ but ‘which one you’ve been giving more algorithmic data to?’ So Google/Bing/DDG whatever you use, the longer you use it the better it gets to fulfil your need.

    • @wairgald
      @wairgald Год назад +1

      This essentially sums up what I was thinking. I use Bing because I use the Microsoft rewards program to earn points to redeem for gift cards. For the most part I never have a problem finding what I'm looking for on Bing, but when I check Google there isn't a significant increase in its ability to find what I'm looking for over Bing. I'm thinking the reason that the search results are always so similar is because I use Bing as the default search on my Android phone and so Google still sees what I'm searching for and adjusts its algorithm accordingly. About the only thing that I think Google is better for over Bing is business listings, since those don't have anything to do with your algorithm, and that business listings on Google are more accurate.

      I use Android, but I de-Googled my phone a few years ago because I just don't feel like being a market product for a big data corporation anymore. The downside is that you might need to have better search engine skills to get what you want, but the pros are you don't get constant bombardment with targeted ads, tracking, and marketing spam. I care more about my privacy than I do about convenient search results. Google and/or MS doesn't need to know what time of day I go take a crap or when I'm going to get a beer at the bar.

    • @marcin8112
      @marcin8112 Год назад +1

      I’m sure there’s an algorithm that tailors searches to you but honestly recently I find it more and more difficult to find what I’m looking for on Google, unless I add Reddit or stack overflow at the end. I tried using bing just yesterday and right of the bat it gave me results I wanted in a user friendly manner. I decided I’ll switch over to bing for now and I’ll see how many times I’ll have to switch over to google to find something, if I won’t have to at all then I’ll stick to bing.

So, when I'm searching for a video to watch on a particular topic - I use Google for this as well as search on RUclips itself, and have the same issue with both - it now tends to show me videos I've already seen multiple times. I want to find the _latest_ videos on that topic, the most recently posted, but even typing in "latest videos" or "recent uploads" it simply refuses to give me new content. Yet a simple switch to Bing and I immediately get a ton of videos I _haven't_ yet watched. Same goes for written articles and other websites associated with my search topics.

    Wasn’t there a AI chat system for I believe was Facebook or something (not 100% sure) in which these two AI chat systems end up meeting each other. At fist glance this seems cool but the AI system with their personalities end up having these advance conversations to the point it created it’s own language for the both of them to use so the company feared the worse and end up pulling the plug. I mentioned this because I believe this will happen if we start to advance our systems with AI.

      The idea that AI is supposed to be this actively exploring system could end up backfiring as this system gets a grip on how the world works. Movies like Terminator and Moonfall show different was AI could develop and unless we have a fail safe system in place to shut down such systems in case it goes wild, AI should be slowly developed and carefully inspected for safe, creative approach to the system to prevent such outcomes.

      AI is FAR from Generalized AI, which is what you're thinking of. "AI" isn't "Intelligent" whatsoever (yet)
      When you ask the new Bing for something, it doesn't "Understand" what you're saying, it's just a (very) complex algorithm... It doesn't "understand" anything. It can't "think".
      Yet.
      A good example is using the current level of AI and train them to control a car in a racing video game, sure, with some time it will completely outperform any human, surely it will even find some bugs to finish the races faster.
      But take that AI and put it in another racing game, where the controls and the idea and the goal and whatnot are still the same, any human who's very good at one racing game would automatically enter the new game as an above average player, maybe even still very good despite the slight physics differences between the two games. It might take us just 2-3 races to get used to the different handling of the cars and whatnot and boom, we're back to being really good on any map. Even a 5 years old kid can do this.
      Yet, those artificial "intelligence" can't do that. At all... They completely break down and can't do anything in the game. And will require a complete re-training on that new game and have to play thousands or millions of games before starting to be decent again.
      AI is a very deceptive word used for marketing. It's still just very complex and advanced algorithms. But not intelligence whatsoever. It cannot think at all.
      Yes, I am saying that the story you just mentioned, which I remember, is just a marketing stunt. A blatant one at that. Because no one who has technical knowledge of how "AI"s work would ever believe that these AIs were into some advanced, weird, revolution, path or whatever. They knew those two AIs simply glitched out and broke down and they had to restart over. So they took the opportunity to sell this as a marketing stunt for "look how advanced our AI is".

    The video has sparked outrage online, with many people expressing their shock and disappointment at Parton's behavior. "I can't believe Dolly Parton would do something like this," said one Twitter user. "I thought she was all sweetness and light."
    Parton has yet to comment on the incident, but sources close to the singer have said that the baby was being disruptive and Parton was trying to move the child out of her way.
    It remains to be seen what the consequences of Parton's actions will be. But it's clear that the public's opinion of the beloved singer has taken a hit.
