If they had put an actual PS5 in it I guarantee you either Matt or Austin would have said “What happens when the PS6 comes out? I don’t want to be stuck with a PS5.”
Thank goodness we have Matt to actually tell us the cons! Austin always tries to casually mention the cons and Matt is always the one to just strait up say it.
Austin wants to keep the door for any potential advertising partners so he can make more money for himself and the channel… Matt makes a salary that is guaranteed under contract, meaning he makes the same amount of money regardless of revenue generated from advertising partners
My worry is that screens on the bumpers get destroyed in a minor fender bender. Did it seem to you like the bumpers extended out enough to protect the screens in a crash?
The whole ads on your car thing is and has been happening for a while where customers pay for subsidies on their automobiles for egregious ads plastered on the sides of it. So I TOTALLY get Austin and Matt’s comment on Sony just playing ads when it senses a car behind you. This WILL happen.
I agree that it is a little to late in the EV game to make a big splash, but competition always drives evolution and development so a new competitor in the EV space can only help everyone else up their game
Honda has already been testing a level 3 autonomous driving system in Japan, which is 6+ months ahead of Mercedes Benz's level 3 testing. Volvo is now testing a a similar level 3 autonomous system as well. These 3 companies are taking that next step, and are ahead of Tesla's level 2 autonomous "Full Self Driving" system.
Acura is not a brand outside US, at least in EU. They are going for global reach with this one so that's why they create a totally new brand. Also Acura=Honda and as they want this to be 50:50 using Honda's brand does not cut it.
Also I would argue that Acura isn't a "luxury" brand but more so a premium brand. It does not have the similar distinctiveness you'd expect from the main brand "Honda" to the "Acura", compared to the likes of Toyota and Lexus. Acura's have had interiors that is incredibly inferior to all luxury brand counterparts.
Don't underestimate the power of Honda. Honda has been very cautious in getting into the EV market, it is the way their system works. But take it from me that the underlying mechanics of the car are sound. Sony is also a Japanese company and they must have found each other on Tinder or something and now they colab on the more modern tech that Sony can bring to the table. I see this as a very stately vehicle and maybe even at the level of a MayBach (AMG/Mercedes). Or a Toyota Crown for those that remember that huge beast. Honda and Sony have very deep pockets, I expect a lot from this colab to be honest.
The reason it might be a Honda over an Acura partnership is due to Acura only being a US based variant of Honda. In Japan, Acuras are only called Hondas. When the Acura plant in Marysville, OH builds an NSX for over seasons, it receives a Honda badge instead of the Acura badge.
I feel like the research of Honda/Acura's vehicle development was surface level at best. They've had several decades of R&D into several different forms of energy production to power the automobiles they sell. EV as early as the 80's. Seems quick to point out that Honda has been lazy on the EV bandwagon when they're making sure the entire system is up to Honda's standards.
Plus with no door handle, what if you're in a situation where you need to get in the car for safety, I doubt. There's an option for hurry there's something that is going to kill me not far behind lol
This would work so well in those horror movies where people fumble on their keys and end up dropping the keys conveniently. Now they can run to the car and have it open automatically for them ;)
Its Honda because Honda is the company that owns Acura or manufacturer. Like you said it is Honda and Sony making the Afeela brand. Curious to see what the outcome of this concept will be, only the future will tell. It would be awesome if they integrated a PS5 somehow but that does date a feature of the vehicle. What about when PS6 comes out? Again, a system would be better but atleast Remote Play is something that can easily be updated vs having to get a PS6 swap.
An ad mode wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing. In terms of an agreement. If you run ads for so long would they give a discount or make the car free. All ads have to have a deal and pay the person advertising their products.
I once rented a car. If I was near the car with the keys it would unlock. I assume it would lock if I walked away.. but I lock the car and if I don't run away from it, it unlocked! It felt kinda dangerous, like if I didn't leave fast enough, and someone knew that car was going to unlock itself they could sneakily crack a door out of my view until I really leave and they just have free reign of the car. Smart features... Are dumb!
The biggest problem is that like Tesla cars that has updating software. Mistake on updates can make car useless which is stupid. Car needs to take you place to place. Even the current electric cars are problematic as they really do not last long and the materials are already limited. Funny that most current car brands sure makes their electric cars look lot worse than the gas/diesel cars. Also all cars needs to have the feature drive itself before it can come safe to use. Who knows when that happens and that world breaks after small software problem middle of driving. As not being really even old person and like to see more tech but cars are the thing that I draw the line. They do not need to be same as our phones or PCs or anything like that.
Xbox should do the same with both a Car and TV also Nintendo should too... But I think Consoles having their names on a Car is just an other way to make money...
It's has a fully autonomous mode? That's why it's taking so long. Level 5 really doesn't exist except in very few cars. I know WAYMO can do level 5 autonomy with it's fleet. Tesla is still level 4 on all models. So if this car is going full level 5 it's going to need more than just cameras. It'll need lidar, radar, cameras and one hell of an AI (which WAYMO has) plus some other things I'm not allowed to talk about ( I was a WAYMO contracted employee that ran tests on the Jaguars ). This will be interesting to see. I also live in Honda country in Ohio.
Some of these features might be seem too late by the time it comes out, but the thing is, the market still isn't that heavily contested. Loads of other brands still have room to be the 2nd 3rd 4th so on at giving us these things because there simply isn't that many cars able to yet offer it Not that it's going to matter, the brands name is so bad that I suspect that alone is going to hurt sales more then they realize it will
9:49 “Why is this not an Acura?” …because Acura is a brand owned by Honda while the corporate parents are Sony and Honda, and so the company is named after the partners and not a partner and a subbrand? Or do you mean why is it called Afeela instead of Acura? In which case, because Acura is a brand owned by Honda and not Sony so it doesn’t acknowledge Sony’s contributions, plus this shares practically nothing-design language, drive system, etc.-with the existing Acura brand?
Honestly this thing should have a multi-slot dock for PS5s. Since this is for the wealthy and seats have their own screens, let them hook up a dedicated console for each screen if they want, with an easy dock/undock functionality.
@Hienz Doofenshmirtz not true at all. There are battery and alternator systems that can sustain power for 1000+ watts of gaming PC in a car... PS5 is like 200w while gaming. Your AC alone can draw up to 3000w.
This is something that I would do if pimp my ride was still around, however I hope that safety features are still implemented to avoid any kind of distractions.
my issue with putting a PS5 in the car makes that part become obsolete once the PS6 eventually rolls out. I don’t know about most people, but for me if I am buying a new car I want it to last 15-20 years at least. I get it, it’s. luxury vehicle, but I understand why streaming it might become a more appealing option.
Firstly, it's a concept car. No concept car comes out to the market straight as it is. It is definitely going to have storage space. Period! Secondly, Acura is basically Honda. The brand name Acura only exists in America. For example, the NSX is sold as an Acura only in America. The rest of world gets a Honda NSX and it is the same car

Electric cars without frunk's should literally be illegal, It is pretty much the only good place to put the charging cable. Imagine if you dont have a frunk and either have to have the cable in the backseats or trunk, So if you have a fully loaded car you will be burying that charging cable under all your luggage in the trunk. Literally as long as an EV fits a 5m charging cable in the frunk then its perfectly fine
It’s not an Acura because then they don’t have to support and aging ICE fleet they built. Think Polestar to Volvo and Geely. Polestar can stand alone and not be dragged down by having to support ICE cars

I wish the industry supported hydrogen powered cars more than evs. I think their potential is far better as regards sustainability and solve the problems of limited resources for batteries and disposal of older batteries. :(
