..was watching a crappy interview with Robin, and the question was asked as to how he would describe himself. I thought of that very phrase. It's one my thesis supervisor uses often. Uncanny.
is maybe he and ritchie blackmore the only guitar players playing the CBS both with 76 years old !!! and still rocking both more Robin because he don´t left the Stratocaster for the Acoustic like Ritchie and later Blackmore try to play riffs but he can´t play like on 90´s but Robin still kicking ass on the Stratocaster !!!
Trower is like ONE tone played, and you can tell it's him. Been following his work the last 45 years, and he keeps getting even better. Incredible guy.
I opened for Robin in '88 in Albq NM...he is not only an incredible musician, but a sterling gentleman. I still get chills every time I here Bridge of Sighs...thanks Robin, for all the great memories
That must have been an amazing experience... wow, man. I can't even fathom being that good and that lucky to be able to play for such a legend. I'm a bedroom composer and friendly jammer, and always wanted to form a band and play out, though my performance anxiety is through the roof, sadly, no matter how deeply I feel music. I had the fortune to meet Steve Vai (the guy who inspired me to play 7-string guitar), and he hand-signed my arm (which I had tattooed the day after!), and gave me the seemingly simple yet sage advice of, "play what you love," and it's there every time I pick up my guitar. I'm quite jealous of you, good sir, haha. Do you have any tidbits of wisdom, and other great stories that you could share with me?
I didnt listen to Robin growing up ( i was born in 71) but when i started playing guitar my guitar teacher suggested I listen to bridge of sighs....I listen to his music several times a week now, it never gets old, Robin is underrated and James Dewar was a great bass player and very under appreciated singer in my humble opinion. Music of today sucks...
Don’t feel too bad for Robin. I did experience him in the 70s and he was HUGE. His stage show had the highest wattage and amazing light shows and he filled arenas 150 nights a year. From what I have read about him he is a very private and family oriented man and my sense is that he is very content with how things have worked out.
I have seen seen him many times back in the day. The thing I regret is not appreciating James Dewar' s greatness at the time. The older I get the more I love his voice. What a great singer. Bridge of Sighs was how I started my day back in the late 70's Better late than never, take care.
It’s good too see Robin still wailing away on that axe! Good memories of college days going to the record stores in the 70’s to buy his albums! God Bless Robin Trower!
Love Robin Trower. Saw him live. He makes " Every Note Count " - plays with so much emotion. I love how he Gives Credit to All the Great Guitar Players - who came before him. Always Humble & All Class. Robin Trower = Legend. (R.I.P. James Dewar).
saw him a few years ago at a small theater in Merced Ca.He walked onstage, said good evening, played the show, said good night, and walked off!!..that's all I needed!
Robin has such a modest setup it's almost a shame the video is so short. He's such a likeable guy. I like it when the artists themselves are involved in these too and not just their techs.
Been a groupie of his since 80s. He would play small venues in SF , after playing Fillmore ir Warfield . The world will pay more attention to his music after he is gone
@misskathy4931 I saw him at Winterland in 1977, me thinks. Was waiting in line to get in....by the side stage door, when a van rolls up and out sreps Robin, James and Jimmy! He says hi to us in line, and in the stage door they go. Good ole days!
He has to be in his late 70's. what a blues player and he wrote his own. He didn't steal anybody's songs and re arrange them. I have been in live entertainment my entire life. Working and seeing a Trower show is on my bucket list. One of the few I have never seen live.
Probably the man who put down the best Strat tones ever recorded. Mad about those first 3 albums of his! Just amazing, the tone the riffs and the lyrics...and of course the Late Great James Dewar on vocals---in my opinion one of the best rock vocalist ever. I consider myself very lucky to have seen them twice in the heyday of their arena tours.
You are correct..BEST STRAT TONE EVER.Lots of people think he sounds like Hendrix...WRONG.He uses the uni(deja) vibe and a marshall, but he made it his own.Much more refined than Jimi.
John's face when Robin plays the Bridge of Sighs riff lol.. My face also! Still remember the first time I heard it, changed my life! Thanks for the rig rundown!
I had the pure joy of seeing Robin Trower here in St. Louis last night. What a thrill to see one of my guitar heroes in person ... and at age 73 ... he just killed it! He was almost embarrassed with standing O after standing O throughout the night but smiled with appreciation every time. Great night of music. Awesome memories. Bridge of Sighs was released when I was 14 y/o. I wore out that album in a hurry!
This rig rundown needs to come out in an expanded edition. I love Robin; I've probably seen him at least a dozen times by now. Even saw him break up a fight once. With his guitar, lol. Just kept it feeding back until the the guys fighting in front of his speaker cabinets stopped. Didn't take long.
Nice to see John Bollinger show so much respect to the legendary Robin Trower! Nice session here. Had to be a treat for John! Everybody's always tried to copy the Trower sound so nice to see his pedals. So the Deja Vibe gives the Bridge of Sighs sound - cool sound! No phase shifter like I used to use for this.
I used to be against all the box effects when I was young but now I’ve somewhat mature and need atmospheric sounds with badass guitar to unwind.robin is one of the best and I have to thank him for helping my spirit and mind these days.☮️from Dallas Texas.
Critics attacked Jimi Hendrix for using effects pedals and sounds. They called him gimmicky. "His response was, "The whole world is full of gimmicks. I'm just trying to produce the right sound that's in my head." When I heard Jimi says those words, I was no long concerned with what people thought about pedals. Clapton uses a Leslie cabinet for the organ along with his Fender Twin or Hot Rod to give him the sound that he wants.
It’s hard to know just by interviews and his music, but it seems that Robin Trower would be a person that would be a good friend. I’ve always wished that I could invite some of the musicians that have touched us so deeply over to the house to sit by the fire ring and contemplate the mysteries of creation. Keep up the good work Robin!
Robin is the Man! And let's not forget his work in the late 60's with the band Procul Harum. His solo work on "Repent Walpurgis" is absolutely killer. It's so cool to see he's still blowing us away!
I wish John would have asked him who he considered these "giants" that he owes his playing to - would have loved to know who his idols were when he learned his trade.
In August 1969, my car was packed with everything I owned, including my 1968 Reissue Les Paul & my Fender Twin, and I was one day away from leaving for Colorado to audition with Judy Roderick for her new band, 100,000 Buffaloes. The day before I was leaving, I went to the Atlantic City Rock Festival (about two weeks before Woodstock) and saw Robin play in person. He was like Hendrix........nothing like his Procul Harem days. Needless to say, I was impressed and became a lifelong fan. What a fantastic player!
jeez I'm old, saw Robin in NYC in 76, I think...getting old old old. My favorite strat sound guitarist. Seems like a genuinely nice man... and he still has it.
LIsten! Let's not go around bashing one musician over another. Stop and think about this: What if, in the whole world you only had ONE musician? He/she might be your very most favorite but consider a whole lifetime with only that ONE musician. You'd hate it; I guarantee it. Support ALL musicians everywhere. It takes a special person to be able to learn all the fundamentals of musicianship alone just to be able to play, and that doesn't mean you'd be a number one anything (band/lead/solo artist/etc.) this just means that you are in a special group of people who are willing to wade in and climb through all that musicianship takes. Let's give creds where creds are due. Okay, we have our favorites, but one person's dislikes are another person's likes. There is room enough for all different tastes. I don't like Jazz per se, but I love musicians (Ginger Baker/Jack Bruce) who are trained in Jazz because it brings another dimension to standard Blues. Let's keep a positive attitude and love and respect ALL of our musicians. Their music truly makes life worth the living.
This gentleman is as a great as it gets. Very few days have gone by without Robin Trowers most excellent music playing since it was introduced to me in 1973. Salute to you and thank you very much for sharing some of the greatest music ever recorded.
I'll never forget the first time I heard Robing Trower on the radio. It was Day of the Eagle and it just blew my mind. I was a young teenager (who was obsessed with Jimi Hendrix) so that was back when Bridge of Sighs was just coming out. I thought, Holy Hell this guy is the next Hendrix--he was playing just like I fantasized about playing. The tone, technique, songwriting, and vocals were amazing. I went out the next day and bought that Album--been a fan ever since! BTW RIP James Dewar!
Don't be fooled by the 12 gauge high E string. The rest is a combination of 10 gauge and 11 gauge. Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan 13 gauge myth. Only 1 and 6 strings 13 gauge the rest 11abd 10 gauge.
Absolutely loved it! Nice job John. I have his signature series Midnight Wine Strat and it's definitely my favorite. I had him sign both guitar and certificate last time he was in Austin. Fantastic and gracious artist.
Speaking of Long Misty Days - what a great vocal by Jimmy Dewar RIP one of my favorite singers of all time... and Robin's lead break - maybe 4 notes - like they cost him a grand a piece on loan - sublime. 🎸🎤
One of my all-time heroes - I play a lot of his stuff. I saw him about five years ago and the dude can still play like nobody's business! I've always considered bridge of sighs as the reference point for anybody playing Hendrix style music from the 70s. Long live Robin...
I'm writing this in 2024. I Saw RT with Procul Harem at the Eastown Theater in Detroit early 70's and have had him in my top ten all time guitarists. This incredible man is still touring and is sharp as ever! He's even coming to SC and my son, grandson and I will be there. Unbelievable!
Legend underated so bad. So him Live at this time. The show was so much fun and he played his ass off and the band was incredible as well. Go Robin we love ya man.
I saw him play live in a small club in Nashville. We took no drugs but tripped our asses off on his music! Hallucinated! Absolutely lovely show that left a lasting impression!
I have run into Robin on many occasions, pure blind luck. Hollywood, Tallahassee, Ft Lauderdale, The Valley... Always one of my earliest influences to date. A true gentleman and honorably humble. Cheers, Robin!
Robin.... Thank you for taking me back when I was 16 yrs old and cruising in my 57 Chevrolet... I am 63 yrs old. I miss those days and other things too. 😳
I was 17 when I first saw R.T. in concert at the Long Beach Arena in Ca 1977 I believe, and damn he was gigantic loud and had such an incredibly pure strat tone coming out of his three 100 watt Marshall stacks behind him. I was high on pot and loving life with my girlfriend and some buddies up in the loge seats! Unforgettable evening!
Very cool Rig Rundown with the legendary Robin Trower. 1st time saw Robin Trower as a very young teen was on December 2nd, 1977 at Winterland, in San Francisco. Was up front on his side of the stage. His vintage Marshall amps and Fender strats were such a full wall of lush warm analog sound. John Bohlinger is a great passionate gent with Premier Guitar. He's one hell of a guitar player/musician too. Always enjoy John talking with such a wide variety of guitar players and their rig. Cheers.
Had the pleasure of seeing mr. Trower at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit in the 90s and the hall it was about a hundred twenty degrees inside and it was worth every second to listen to mister Trower the man is magical and one of the greatest guitarists who ever graced six strings
Thanks for mentioning the plethora of awesome rock guitarists to come out of such a small country in such a compressed period of time. I might still be a music fanatic, but I"d rather not think of growing up with - and enjoying forever - the work of Robin Trower, Jimmy Page, George Harrison & John Lennon, Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmour, Greg Lake, Steve Howe, Robert Fripp, Pete Townshend and Brian May. The biggest compliment any of them can get is to realize that the generations of young music freaks after me get into and love these guys. As an early teen, my son just had to call me at work one day to let me know how much "Gates Of Delerium" blew him away.
"On the shoulders of giants, all of us," says Rock and Blues giant Robin Trower. A class act and one hell of a player.
Was just going to say that ☮️

It’s a quote from Isaac Newton. It was quoted in my social studies book in fourth grade, circa 1963.
Right? How can you not love the dude? Legend status
Trower is like ONE tone played, and you can tell it's him. Been following his work the last 45 years, and he keeps getting even better. Incredible guy.

I admire Mr Trower's tone, his playing and also his humility. No rock star swagger. "We were standing on the shoulders of giants."
What a humble, beautiful guy Robin Trower is. His tone and touch are heavenly.
One of the most original and under appreciated blues artists of our time. And one of my greatest heroes.
Cosmic Blues artist. A big difference.
Underappreciated for sure!
Amen 100 percent love his style and how about James Dewars bass and vocals absolutely stellar
One of best guitarist of all time... his blue riffs and tone are epic. Bridge of Sighs is one of the top 5 guitar albums ever recorded IMO.
Trower is an absolute gentleman, and an underrated master of tone.
Good job as always PG! You guys always knock it out of the park.
He is so relaxed in his playing these days, and I think he sounds better now than I remember from the 70's! Maybe it is the extra 1/2 step down :-)
He's not "underrated " as far as I know....
@Marcus Clarke I just watched a video about Jimi Hendrix and Billy Gibbons and someone chimed in that Billy Gibbons was underrated too.....lol !
NOT UNDERATED !
@@putzengiler I agree. People who know anything about guitar/music, in general, know he's a total bad ass.

I'm 65 now,and I always loved his guitar skills . It relaxes me and lets me get into a special zone . 😎🌟✨💫
man...the bridge of sighs tone....when he hits the boost and the feedback starts...just such a beautiful sound
Saw him last month and it was the best live guitar tone I've ever heard.
I will see him Thursday in Greensberg Pa. I met him twice what a wonderful person he is.
Yes, the strat is an expressive instrument, but it takes a very special touch to make it speak the way Robin Trower does....one of a kind....
I love how he payed respect: "on the shoulders of giants"-All the classic players from whence he came will say the same.
Any musician worth their salt know they owe it all to their influences :)

An absolute MASTER guitar player...tone for days...great phasing...great songwriter
Jesus he had the best tone ever with basic clean tone. Magic hands!
Rig Rundown is MUCH better than television. Keep 'em coming!
jeez I'm old, saw Robin in NYC in 76, I think...getting old old old. My favorite strat sound guitarist. Seems like a genuinely nice man... and he still has it.
Robin is a genuine treasure! Between Procol Harem, his solo stuff, and the devastating raw material with Jack Bruce...What more do you need!
New Rule: All legendary guitar gods doing rig rundowns should be required to play at least a couple minutes in the video.
yes less talky more playing
Yea
John was talking about listening to Robin's sound check - would have been great to hear some of that sound check as part of this video.
EXACTLY!! Guitar is strapped around his neck, He should be playing it!! For crying out loud!!
Absolutely...Joe Bonamassa tore it up but, he seems to be the exception!!
The guy's an ICON and Robin is cool too. Clean sound my favorite. What a gentleman.
He is a class act.
Simply one of the best players ever.
I could live the rest of my life with tone he had for those 2 or 3 notes before he even touched a pedal. Man oh man

Very good rig rundown. I really like watching the rundowns of guitarists that i admire.
"on the shoulders of giants"
Take a hit every time John says "back in the day"
I know.... enough already
As an old timer myself, I'd start to think this pup was considering me as a relic whose best days were long ago.
At this point Trower has had 7 back in the day periods.
Robin should have just bitch slapped him.🤯🤯
🤣🤣🤣
I was 17 when I first saw R.T. in concert at the Long Beach Arena in Ca 1977 I believe, and damn he was gigantic loud and had such an incredibly pure strat tone coming out of his three 100 watt Marshall stacks behind him. I was high on pot and loving life with my girlfriend and some buddies up in the loge seats! Unforgettable evening!
I was there as well and I was 22. Eddie Money opened I believe then Wishbone Ash. Incredible night
Extraordinary talent and contributions aside, Robin has always been friendly, informative, and humble in his interviews.
Robin is a treasure from the past that still out shines the present.
Cheers.
I have been in love with Robin since I was 15, now 62, still my all time favorite album is twice removed from yesterday.
Had the pleasure of seeing mr. Trower at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit in the 90s and the hall it was about a hundred twenty degrees inside and it was worth every second to listen to mister Trower the man is magical and one of the greatest guitarists who ever graced six strings
I heard Trower and Dewar live in the early 70s. Their music was hypnotic to say the least. A very memorable experience.
Thanks for doing this. I wore the grooves off his records in the 70's and still love the music!
Great interview of a living legend.
Oh! I adore Robin Trower. Bridge of Sighs is a religious experience! Love it!!!!
Trower is just brilliant... a master. Love him.
