  • This episode explains the brain-body connections that allow the specific foods we eat to control our moods and motivation. I discuss the vagus nerve and its role in dopamine and serotonin release in the brain. I review Omega-3 fatty acids and the key role of the gut microbiome in supporting (or hindering) our mental and emotional states. Many actionable tools are reviewed and discussed related to fasting, ketogenic and plant-based diets, probiotics, fermented foods, fish oils, artificial sweeteners, specific supplements that promote dopamine and serotonin, and some remarkable behavioral (and belief) effects.

@@hubermanlab I've been scouring RUclips for AutoPsychology reasons because I find that too many Clinical Doctors seem clueless because they don't follow the research.
You're frankness is like a breath of fresh air!
I'm on my 5th episode because I'm OD'ing on the information I've been seeking for years now.
I just found Dr. Joe D-something (I don't want to misspell his name) who talks about limbic & nervous systems as well.
      Addicted!
Somatic Anxiety, Gut Biome, Sympathetic Nervous System responses, HPA Axis dysregulation, HRV, pineal functioning, etc. seem to still be unworthy of any concern by Clinicians, albeit not from Researchers.
Which begs the question, at what point does the research get assimilated into Policy & Procedure?
It's maddening that Western Medicine Physicians care so little to simply prescribe pharmaceuticals for years without referral for any holistic treatment.
You've dispelled so much conventional wisdom that I now have a very healthy fear of self-proclaimed or MD Healers. 🤯

Just wanted to drop this here, and an interesting realization/Possibility I want to run through you about Sex Transmutation. Which is basically using sexual energy to get motivation, and push through ideas and basically, being better. And the idea makes sense seeing as the anticipation of sex, leads to a release in dopamine, epinephrine etc...correct me if I'm wrong. If this is so, then Ideally you can use the release of these neurons/modulators as a gateway to higher learning and general function. I guess the question is can sexual arousal be used as a tool? Any opinion on this concept? Thank you

      Verdict: False
There is no evidence that Orwell ever said or wrote this saying.
      Fact Check:
Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell, authored multiple novels during his writing career, including the dystopian “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” and satirical “Animal Farm.”
The Daily Caller News Foundation searched these books, as well as a complete collection of his works, for the quote but turned up no matching phrases. His essays and letters didn’t yield any results either.
“This quote is misattributed. I’ve read every word Orwell wrote and never encountered it,” Dorian Lynskey, author of “The Ministry of Truth: The Biography of George Orwell’s 1984,” told TheDCNF via email.

Your insertion of caveats about what we know now (and need to learn) are timed well for purposes of precision/clarity. Your intellectual humility signals more mastery on material you cover than most science educators show. I love that you say “check with your doctor and think what’s best for you” (paraphrase) instead of reading w long disclaimer like Peter Attia does (I think we all know no “doctor patient relationship is formed,” etc etc etc for 3 or more minutes). @@joekim3219 Lots of great studies regarding auricular activation of the vagas nerve and healing. My main emphasis was toward dealing with PTSD in an integrative setting. But I would say my main takeaway is that studies showed that you can increase the HRV through percutanious stimulation of the ear - which Dr H is talking about here - creating a parasympathetic response in the body. Are you an acupuncturist? The major innervarion area of the auricular vagas nerve branch is in the concha/Tragus area. Which I would have originally though would be in the shenmen area - but makes sense if you think of the heart/lung and surrounding Acu points :-)
