    I'm 68 and retired. Just bought a new bass bone from Mack Brass, I originally played in school and college marching and lab/dance bands, have megatone and denis wick mouthpieces, and plan on a high C with your guidance. Agree, you are a fantastic teacher. Wish all your videos were in one place. Like all the one man band quartets, I learn better visually than by other methods. You are very inspiring. Keep up the good work.

    I came here because the piece that I'm playing for my high school spring concert has these notes in order: high G, high A, and that super high Bb, followed by another high G and high A, and then high E, high F and high G again. and the double high Bb has been giving me alot of trouble so thank you for making this video!

I knew how to do these things already but i can easily see people learning from your videos. you're very skilled and i hope to one day be as good as you. i've been playing trombone for about 8 years and i honestly don't ever want to let it go so i always look for inspiration in order to motivate myself. you, sir, have successfully motivated me. Thank you.

    Good video! For the low register range, double pedal notes are totally possible. It's more of a bass bone technique (mainly what I play), but it works on tenor too. The trick is to play it one position lower than normal. E.g. play a Bb in 2nd position. There are vids of it on youtube. Again, great video!

    Thanks Christopher for the video. I've learned a lot.
    Could you please put the camera to your right in order to see your mouth and jin. I think it is important to watch and study the embouchure how it changes ( or not ) going higher or lower.
    Regards

I could only play a g on trumpet if I was lucky but I switched to trombone and I can play a double concert f on a good day. And I'm wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better at trombone than I ever was at trumpet

    Thanks for the techniques on playing the high tones. Im playing trombone and a few other brass instruments for some years now, but if i try to play above the one-line-Bb with the bone or baritone, i need damn much pressure, its impossible for me to play above the two-line F and im getting really silent at this height. so ill practice your techniques next weekend and try if i manage to play the notes above Bb1 louder and maybe ill get your c3 (i hope i managed to get the right octaves for the played notes)

    I need this to play your Frozen arrangement for a spring concert coming up. A little trombonist of mine also re-arranged your original sheet music of it to split the solo part for all of us to play! He's an amazing composer if you;d like to take a look. Although any further tips on how to cleanly reach a high E and C would be very appreciated since I need to have those notes down before May D:

    Found this video by accident not even looking for high note vids , I could already hit them, but holy fuck have I never played them so loud, the air to floor technique never really worked till I watched this vid.
    Side note tho I could really only get these to work with fresh ass chops or I squeeze my entire face out

    Hey Christopher, great vid! Just wanted to say, I'm a freshman this year, and I have a pretty well developed high range (I can hit everything I've heard you play) like double high Bb's etc. What I wanted to say was that my old trombone teacher was a pro and told me never to "overlip" I think he called it. It may be harmful? Just saying, Anyway once again great vid, I've watched all of your covers over and over!
    One more thing, to play high, I normally have to have a little bit of warm up, and afterword I normally have some difficuly playing low notes (pedal and trigger). Any tips?

    Hmm.. Anyone know what it's like going from playing above the staff on a Trumpet, to playing high on the Trombone?

    • @sasmadra
      @sasmadra 10 лет назад

      Generally speaking, if your range on trumpet is above the staff, (Say..High C, which most High School trumpets are able to accomplish without strenuous difficulty) given adjustments to the embouchure, after some practice your range on trombone/baritone/euphonium should generally be a bit higher. Say you go from trumpet to trombone, with a High C range, you should be in the ball park of what would be the bass clef equivalent to a double Bb. I hope this helps, but would recommend checking other sources too.

    On the growl, I don't do any of that... I just play loud and it just naturally growls.

    • @blindblackpianist
      @blindblackpianist 10 лет назад

      What if you wanted to do a growl at a lower dynamic? That's where I've needed to develop either the tongue rolling or the growling in the back of the throat. Also, the growling can be better controlled this way, and more similar to Duke's great horn players.

      The highest note he played on the trombone here is F6 on the piano.
      I play extreme altissimo on saxophone and trumpet hitting C8 and above. Pretty can higher than a piano. Learning Trombone I've managed to hit a Bb6. I have my own channel in certain videos displaying this.

    I'm in the trombone section for the WVU marching band and I love that that you use the octave notation! Pretty much no one does here. And damn do you have an impressive range. D1-Ab5 is my current in context range. Out of context is Bb0-C6.

    Can I ask, with lip trills, I've been trying to work it out and I understand the technique I need to do so, however I'm facing troubles with it. I know it takes a lot of practice to get it right, but my problem is what part of my tongue should I use to manipulate to trill, cause I want to make sure I'm using the right part so then I'm not getting annoyed when I'm seeing no real change

    • @CamdenBrown
      @CamdenBrown 10 лет назад

      The BACK of the tongue should move when doing lip trills. The back of the tongue moves up slightly for the higher note, and down slightly for the lower note. You really never want to move the front of the tongue that much when playing trombone.
