    Thank you John for this information. The loss of traction on my front axle in snow - on a recent Christmas Tree hunt in Colorado was underperforming and “skipping” if you will - as you explained happens in sand. After seeing this video I’m lucky I didn’t shear the “ fuse” in my transfer case.

    How do you address the front differential with your Atlas transfer case swap? The front diff is a tiny unit with tiny halfshafts out to the wheels. I imagine the weak link moves to the front and that unit will implode under any moderate load.
    Have you guys considered portal hubs at the front wheels to increase torque capacity on the front axle while also allowing a 50:50 torque split through an additional gear reduction?

      This is still a work in progress, we have several of them in the field for years now. We haven't had a repetitive issue

      For comparison’s sake I measured the front halfshafts on my Ford Ranger. They were about the same as my Sprinter at 30mm diameter… not as undersized as I thought. I do still wonder about the front differential durability. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the ambition to improve the terrible “4x4” Mercedes system. Maybe I’ll be a customer with the right solution in the future.

    I know that some companies in Europe (Iglhaut, Achleitner) use a Landcruiser transfer case instead. Any idea why this only works starting with 2WD not simply replacing it on a 4WD?

    • @Agileoffroad
      @Agileoffroad  14 дней назад

      That's a great question! They are clearly set up for doing this on a 2WD using a divorced transfer case.

    Will it be possible to install the Atlas transfer case on Sprinter from 2006-2018 ? I have a 2012 w906 4x4 Sprinter and I would really like to get the Atlas transfer case for it.
