Bromeliad Anatomy: What is a Meristem?

So let's look at bromeliad anatomy and ask: "What is a Meristem?" In this week's BromVid we'll look at the meristems on our bromeliad, find out where they are located, how they work, and discover why they are so important to the anatomy of our bromeliads. Learning about our bromeliads is really easy, so come on everybody, "Let's get growing and have some fun!"

My grandfather died when I was eight but before he died he told me this, " If someone is willing to teach you something that they know about, you take the time to listen , learn and show them appreciation for it." I never forgot that. I am 66 and I learn something new every day. Today I learned something about bromeliads, a beautiful group of plants that I love , so thank you very much Rusty. You did a great job, I appreciate you teaching all of us.

So to make dieting varieties do they inject tissue from other meristems into another to make a new type

As far as I know, the only way to produce hybrids is by introducing the pollen from one plant to the ovum of another plant. The interesting thing is that to have an exact copy of a plant, genetic material is taken as a plug from the meristem and cultured to produce new plants. Great question, Thanks!
