Just can beat the hook and loop stuff, awesome hack Tony 👍🏻 I am so looking forward to getting out there if it EVER quits monsoon weather here. I am thinking on checking just where the sun is shining but not blistering hot 🥵 and heading there for some fun 🤗
Great idea!! I always have trouble unhooking those things, especially with cold hands. As far as getting up in the middle of the night I like the pee bottle solution the best!!!! Just being honest!!!
To be honest I use the pee bottle too but this sure is easier getting out and at 3grams my overall weight with stakes and stuff sacks is still 25oz. Thanks Paul I appreciate it
I recently finished a 1,000 mile bicycle tour and had no problems with the velcro. A few nights were extremely windy and I had a few tent stakes pull out of soft ground but had no problems. I wish I had done this sooner. Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb, Tony
Nice hack. Has anyone used the new Duplex with the zippered door and more importantly the ridge vent for condensation? I got stuck in my Duplex recently during a monster rain storm that flooded much of Vermont. We received at least ten inches of rain so I needed to close both doors and the temps were high 68 or so. I was in the tent with my dog and the condensation was terrible. It was pretty much raining in my tent it was so bad. I did not use my quilt and just sleep in my rain gear. Any suggestions. It’s made me lose a lot of love I once had for this tent. I have never seen anything like this before.
That’s a really good hack, if your an older feller like me, you differently got to make a few exits in the night . 😁 My Tiger wall tent toggles get twisted and can be a pain also.
I have just loosened my line that has the bottom double hook on pole guy line... then it is very easy to undo toggle... my hands are never cold when I get up in the middle of the night since I am in a warm sleeping bag... don't know how necessary the added velcro is...
A very helpful video to anyone interested in camping and hiking, keep up the good work friend. Grab yourself a Canon M50 and forget about the GoPro they freeze too much
Hot damn!! Nice Hack! I gotta do that too. Went through exactly what you talking about in Guadalupe Mountains one night. I like my hack with the extra head room too 😆

G'day. I've used little magnets taped in by dyneema repair tape and work quite well. You can buy stick on toggles and loops from Zpacks and put them on the inside. I messaged Zpacks and told them the biggest pain in the bloody neck is opening up the vestibules from the inside. I told them if they design a zippered vestibuled tent , I would buy it in a heartbeat. Tarptent newest Aeon Li and Notch Li did just that. So they must have been listening to their customers.
That's a great idea Magpie. The dyneema tape should last the life of the tent too! Anything is better than what the tent comes with. Hahaha Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb, Tony
@mtadams2009 I've already purchased the Durston Pro tent. I was thinking of getting this zipped tent but when Zpacks told me the vestibule doors aren't any lower ( like the Durston ) then that put me off. BTW I've had the Duplex in 55mph winds and it was fine. Haven't had those winds in a Durston yet but I'm confident it would hold up well
@@magpiecollingwood9116 I am big on made in the USA person so that tent it a big no go for me. I understand it’s a beautiful tent but I prefer to keep the jobs here whenever I can. My brother in law ran plants across the world and he said we would be disguised by how they treat their workers in foreign countries. He left that job over that issue. I understand this issue is nearly impossible to avoid given the times but in the backpacking industry it is. Take care
That is great idea! I don't own a Duplex but I am thinking about it to shave some weight because of the extra safety equipment I need to carry as a Boy Scout Leader on Backpacking trips. How does your tent perform in cold temperature with those door closed specially in regards to condensation?
Hi Felipe. I've never had much trouble with condensation like some have but I know I need to leave the vestibule doors high enough to get plenty of ventilation. Using it as a one person tent is extremely comfortable but of course that's a lot of space that's hard to warm up with body heat. I usually use my quilt or bag that's rated for colder temps than what I'm sleeping in so I have no probkems. The weight savings are fantastic. Thank you for watching and commenting. ATB, Tony
Do you see any down sides to using dcf tape and magnets instead of the velcro? Also, will you eventually remove your toggles or do you think they are necessary?
Hi Cheri. The only thing I could see as a downside to magnets would be if they were large enough to keep the vestibule closed that might interfere with packability and increased weight but it could work. I still have my toggles on but I don't use them unless the wind gets really crazy. Thanks for watching and commenting. Atb, Tony
I love that, "the best thing for your inside, is the outside." good stuff.
Wonderful Hack, thanks for sharing !!!
I will add them to my duplex. I added my own toggles a few years ago. A superb tent that has lasted well.
Great tip! We will have to try that. Thanks for posting.
Great idea, just bought the new Offset zpack tent today.
just checking out videos on the Duplex thinking about getting one thanks for the hack
You'd think with a price tag like that tent has, they would have done that for you. Nice job. Happy trails.
Yeah, to be honest this will be my last DCF tent. Y'all have a great weekend
Dude... couldn't agree more!
They now use zippers and have some form of roof vent for the condensation issue.
Great idea for those of us middle aged and older gentlemen who might have need for nighttime emergency exits.
Exactly. Lol Thanks for watching ✌
This is great, we are always looking for tips for future trips!
Thank you and I appreciate you watching and commenting 👍
Love it - will have to give it a crack thanks and hi from Australia
Fantastic!!

Whew! We are in south Texas right now with temperatures in the upper 90s. It's tough. Lol
Bluecollar Backcountry 🥵🤔well..... that puts your area off my list ☑️😁🤷🏼♀️
I'm doing this, thank you for this video!!
Good call! Thanks for making this video!

Just be sure to not spill it. :)
I just backpacked in Yosemite with a pee bottle for the first time and I much prefer it! Especially because I go pee twice a night haha!
Hook and loop tape has been a godsend for us guys in the IT business. Now it has a place in my outdoors gear idea bag.
It's the best thing since peanut butter huh? Lol. Thanks Steve
A very interesting video. That looks like a really good hack. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us.
Thanks for watching I really appreciate it 👍
Excellent! Thanks!
Showing off your smarts, good man. Good hack. Stay safe.
Thanks Opal I always appreciate your comments 👍
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing~
Great idea with the tape. That will help for sure
Thanks a lot. something so simple is going to be great on those cold dark nights.
That was pretty dern smart there Mr. Hyde. Great info for sure. Stay healthy my friend.
Thanks, Jim. You, Moe and the rest of your family stay safe as well. I appreciate it.
Loving the vid 👌🏽👌🏽
Very, nice hack!
Thanks John. Those toggles are a pain in the middle of a cold dark night. Lol. Atb, Tony
cool guy, good idea and tellin us how it worked

I'll be 64 in August so anything to streamline getting out is good. LOL

Great Hack!
Hot damn!! Nice Hack! I gotta do that too. Went through exactly what you talking about in Guadalupe Mountains one night. I like my hack with the extra head room too 😆
It works pretty slick Eli. I hope your family is well.
Bluecollar Backcountry we are doing well, been a few months of being inside... drive you a bit crazy lol
Mr. Eli, do you have a video about the extra head room hack?
Nice Video man thanks. I’m in as a subscriber!

No worrie good stuff . They do that to me too
We do not own a duplex, but that is a really handy hack!!
That's because y'all abandoned us ground dwellers and started hanging. Lol Thanks y'all
@@BluecollarBackcountry no Tony!! LOL...we are still ground dwellers at heart!

I guess you now have to purchase the new zippered version,
It also has some roof vents too.

Would a 6'3" person fit comfortably? Nice video, good idea.
If you were by yourself and lay diagonally it would work well and has a height of 48" Thanks I appreciate it
That toggle is definitely a bit annoying!
I know!!! I'm really liking this simple fix.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t put the toggle inside of their tents, and I have their Altaplex
That would definitely make more sense. Thank you Kenneth. Atb, Tony
3 grams i'm not sure to take the extra weight ,hahahaha
Good hack
You just need a heavier backpack Steve. Bahahaha 😉
OMG!! YOU added 3 grams!! That'll prolly slow down you're average speed by at least .00002654 mph!!
You know me, I never claimed quickness.
