      I have actually talked to a few of them on MSN way back in around 2011-12. They are all very intelligent and bafflingly creative, it takes a certain outside-the-box brilliance to discover the kinds of things that they did. I hope that they’re all doing well, hopefully using their intellect for good (not that exploiting bugs on RS is bad) and being paid handsomely for it.

    There's a really insane glitch being omitted here, but I remember Roy selling me a duel arena glitch on sythe which involved dungeoneering. On the day that free trade was reintroduced, the glitch worked by creating a 2 person party for dungeoneering and having 1 of the accounts (the staker) stall the teleport by spam clicking some UI option ( I forget what it was, I was young and this was like 10 years ago). You then take the un-teleported account to the duel arena and look for a DDS fight - when your character ran low on HP or special attack during the fight, you had the 2nd dungeoneering account leave the dungeon and then your staking account would have HP and special attack replenished back to full. You're basically never losing a fight, winning every stake. I skipped school that day to abuse the shit out of it and sold a ton of GP for $$$. Shared the method with a buddy of mine, none of us ever got banned for that. Was patched later in the afternoon. Thanks Roy!

      @Jason Smith hahaha I'm actually none of those people. I worked with two teams from BA and I never actually registered on the site itself. My main role was actually on Sythe where I was trusted for 7 or so years before 2012, where we partnered with different vendors to get people to buy 1-80 DG level 3 boosts and sell excessive GP from the arena refresh glitch because we were using it from around the time people just were hitting 105-110 legit DG. So we had months to boost accounts and sell gold.
      I worked with a team that found the glitch pretty early on, they found the single party exploit very early on and my find was how to use it to boost a fresh account into a high prestige level xp rate. We accidentally found the health restore glitch because one of us lagged and didn't get inside on time and my friend released the stall and my friend who was outside near the bank restored 7hp and we knew we hit bank.
      I also was a mod on two accounts in RS2 so my initial dip into the black market sites was around 2006/2007 selling merchanting boosts, moderator referrals and some other stuff.

    Re: the dungeoneering bugs - items were not usable outside of the dungeon, but the reskin of your avatar was. By spam clicking the 99 dg skill cape emote for about 5 minutes, your char would get stuck in that state and look like they had full primal / celestial / saggitarius on.
    The item smuggles were mostly harmless as you couldn't use the items and they would disappear if you tried equipping them, trading them, or dropping them. When pet trolls came out a market appeared for smuggled items (which could be transferred via killing the owner in the wildy) so people would feed them dg keys etc.
    Also the day one of the dg quests came out you could simply teleport out of the cutscene which left your character marked as "male" gender even if you had a female avatar, so we went and became bearded ladies. Some good times we had (and none of us got in trouble afaik). One of my friends said he was hax unit but I never really cared lol.

    I wonder how they can just strike a video containing RS content and manage to take it down. Even if bug abuse counts as hacking it should be okay legally to have the video isn't it?

    • @perinthia6829

      Probably the same way Nintendo does it for anyone using their stuff, many companies do it and i believe it comes down to if you intend to monetize a video of a game you technically need the publisher's approval, its just the majority of companies dont care because its free advertising, same with copyrighted songs and such

    I'm trying to remember a lure one of my clanmate did back then. It was not too long after the release of summoning skill. Trade restrictions were in place so you couldn't pick up expensive items that weren't yours.
    How I remember it working is the lurer would find someone with a partyhat or something that is worth a lot but lost on death if you had 4 or more items (the items kept on death was based on high alch price back then). He would lure them in a player owned house claiming they were doing a video or a fun event w/e.
    The lurer would damage the victim with a dragon dagger poison inside a combat ring and leave them at low hp. After that they would ask the victim to summon a larupia or other teleporting familiar and use the teleport option from inside the house. The poison damage would register as they teleport or after and the victim would die at the hunter spot and the one that did the damage with the dragon dagger would see the victim's stuff on the ground and be able to pick it up. He managed to get a few phats this way.
    If anyone remember this lure or anything resembling, I would like to have more details as I'm not really sure I remember this correctly or if it even happened at all. It could have been a cover to avoid saying he bought gold or hacked an account I dont know but I remember being mind blown by his tactic.

    Interesting fact: Jagex, and other game devs, are actually NOT in the correct by striking down videos and channels for posting glitches or bugs. Even for community reasons. And if someone can prove that they made money through their RUclips account, especially if you were reliant on it, could even be grounds for a class action lawsuit against the company(ies) involved.
    As with any Legal business, I'm not a Lawyer. This is just theoretical discussion I had with a Lawyer, in the event of such things.

    • @perinthia6829
      @perinthia6829 2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately i dont believe it works that way since when making an account you agree to their terms and services, which i didnt read but i assume one of those is agreeing that you will report any and all bugs/glitches, so using their platform to make money while going exactly against the terms that you signed and agreed to can get a bit muddy in legal terms, long story short Jagex's legal team would probably be much more experienced than anyone who would take your case and worst case scenario deoending on your actions YOU could end up in hot water and face legal trouble, so it would be best to let it go for your own good

    • @useddentalfloss2484
      @useddentalfloss2484 2 года назад

      In a case where the lawsuit was specifically about Copyright, and the question being weather or not the individual(s) who posted videos were in fact, in violation of the Copyright law(s), I'm fairly certain I'd place my bets on the content creators. There are many loopholes companies have used since the laws in Europe have changed. Many fake companies making false copyright strikes.
      Patches in law have already been written, clearly defining what is, and what isn't a false copyright claim, or what is a truthful copyright claim. Especially when it comes to video games and their related materials, music or movies. Basically, the biggest industry effected by these laws: Entertainment.
      The courts have seen hundreds of abuse cases already, and this likely won't slow down as companies make frivolous lawsuits based on Copyright claims in order to suppress the masses descending opinion, or in order to make a quick buck. Look at that one fake company that tried Copyrighting the E Chord... Abuses are abundant. The laws change to make it more fair. It ultimately comes down to who files the lawsuit first. Afterall, the burden of proof lies with the accuser in most cases.

    Good video, although the statement that tick "manipulation" is bug abuse isnt something i would say, its not the way Jagex intended it back then, but its a way the game works, in tick cycles, so its more like strategic development around game mechanics than bug abuse... Especially if you see a bug like duplicating items, compared to strategically using the game mechanics and discovering certain aspects that you didnt think of before :)
